Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

Welcome to Year 7 of our Pan It! Challenge ElleElleG_0-1704168084184.gif

ElleElleG_9-1704168647118.jpeg

The "Rules"

To accommodate a variety of interests, you all are encouraged to pick items to pan that are most suitable to your collections.  For some, this might mean focusing on a particular type of product (like lipstick) and for others this may include a larger variety spanning your entire makeup or skincare routine.

Getting Started (please share the following)

  • Which item(s) you would like to work on
  • How long you will work on said item
  • Goal: explore a new item, revisit an old item, decide whether to keep pass or trash, and/or completely finish item, etc.
  • Starting photo of item

Please Use This Thread To...

  • share what item(s) you are working on,
  • provide comparative progress photos of your item(s) monthly (at the beginning of the month when possible),
  • ask questions,
  • encourage others,
  • motivate others with the looks you create with your item(s)

Tips and Tricks to Panning/Getting Some Use Out of Your Stash:

Spoiler
  • Take photos!!  When you think you aren’t making a dent in anything look back at those photos, I’m certain you’ll see some changes 😃 *this is the number one recommendation for everyone, regardless of how long you’ve been panning! Those photos add up and can help you realize progress you might otherwise overlook.
  • If you goal is to hit pan or use something up entirely, try concentrating your brush/applicator in the same area each time you use it
  • Multitask your products: eyeshadows as highlighter, lipstick as blush, eyeshadow as brow powder, etc.
  • Layer eyeshadow to create different colors (this is especially helpful to get use out of shades you’re not fond of).
  • Have shadows with a ton of fall out?  Use water
  • Watching the progress of others’ can be fun but try not compare your progress to theirs.  We all use our makeup differently and have different goals.
  • Don’t restrict yourself to only using the item(s) you are working on.  It’s more than OK to incorporate other items or take a break!
  • Makeup should be fun….if you begin to dread doing your makeup because you made a commitment to use a product that you now hate, TOSS IT!  Do not force yourself to use up something you don’t like.  Move on to something else!  (This includes excluding particular shades from your goals if focusing on palettes, etc.)

Ideas to Help You Pan Those Items:

Spoiler
  • Roll the dice: number your items and use a random number generator to pick what you will use each (day/week/month/etc.)
  • Layer/Mask: items you are less fond of under things you like
  • Pan a Look: at the beginning of the week pick a look that you can wear everyday
  • Recreate: a look worn by a fellow BICer, celebrity, etc.
  • Spice up an "everyday" look by adding subtle pops of color (in the crease or on the lower lash line, mix lip products to make shades wearable, etc.)

Re: Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

Hey y’all, here’s the final update for my 2023 project: Natasha Denona Eyeshadow Palette 5

IMG_20181213_094621_894_Original.jpeg

Where it all began … I purchased this in December 2018 and immediately fell in love with Lavender Gray and Shell (shades 2 & 3).

I hit pan towards the end of 2021 and in 2022 I started rotating into my panning items.

Alright here are the 2023 highlights

So this is where we are and I think I’m calling this done. I wanted to use the entire thing but Light Coral (Shade 4) has never been a shade that I enjoyed. Gold shades in general aren’t colors I gravitate toward and this shadow in particular is thin. Alone it was a struggle to use this but I managed to hit pan by pairing it with Rosewood (Shade 1). Maroon (shade 5) is a color I’d typically reach for but for some reason this was used only sporadically. I can’t recall having any issues with the shade but I largely treated it like it wasn’t there.

At this point I won’t toss these shades but I’m definitely ready to focus on something else. Speaking on something else, I’m going to need some help deciding which palette to work on so I’ll shade some options next 😁

Re: Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

Wow, I don't remember the last time I used a shadow fully like that nevermind 3 @ElleElleG Way to go.

Thanks @blackkitty2014 !! Y’all’s projects absolutely help me stay motivated!

Re: Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

Your commitment to using your palette paid off HUGE here. 👌 @ElleElleG That is amazing panning, you should be so proud of how well you did, it's incredible.

I'm very curious to see what palette you end up picking next. 😉

Thanks so much @CynthieLu 💙

Re: Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

Wow, that’s some spectacular panning @ElleElleG 😍 Your feelings on gold shades in general and that 4th shade here completely resonated with me. I’m so impressed (and inspired) by how much pan you’ve hit on that shade❣️

Excited to see what you have planned for this year!

Re: Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

😁😁 Thank you @itsfi ! Golds often fool me because they look great in the pan but when it’s on my eye I’m always disappointed

Re: Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

@ElleElleG Woo amazing job!!

Re: Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

My Pan It! Attempt for 2024 💚

Last time I attempted this, I did not finish the year. I hope I can stay with it and finish strong. ( Or at least stronger 😉)

My approach:

- Finish foils, samples and trials that aren't moving in my stash.

- Finish full size products I have had open for to long but am not using up.

Products I've picked in spoiler:

For the above 2 categories:  As I finish items l plan to bring in new ones into the mix.

I'm also working on a slew of hydrating lippies I need to finish. I'm going to keep them in arms reach in my purse, coat pockets and at work. I'm always looking to stay hydrated at work and on the go. Having these easily on hand should help me put them to use.

Lippies in spoiler:

Re: Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

The skincare items should be done within the year I'm sure @CynthieLu I spy a lot of good products so you don't feel like it's a "chore" to use them.
