Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

Welcome to Year 7 of our Pan It! Challenge ElleElleG_0-1704168084184.gif

ElleElleG_9-1704168647118.jpeg

The "Rules"

To accommodate a variety of interests, you all are encouraged to pick items to pan that are most suitable to your collections.  For some, this might mean focusing on a particular type of product (like lipstick) and for others this may include a larger variety spanning your entire makeup or skincare routine.

Getting Started (please share the following)

  • Which item(s) you would like to work on
  • How long you will work on said item
  • Goal: explore a new item, revisit an old item, decide whether to keep pass or trash, and/or completely finish item, etc.
  • Starting photo of item

Please Use This Thread To...

  • share what item(s) you are working on,
  • provide comparative progress photos of your item(s) monthly (at the beginning of the month when possible),
  • ask questions,
  • encourage others,
  • motivate others with the looks you create with your item(s)

Tips and Tricks to Panning/Getting Some Use Out of Your Stash:

Spoiler
  • Take photos!!  When you think you aren’t making a dent in anything look back at those photos, I’m certain you’ll see some changes 😃 *this is the number one recommendation for everyone, regardless of how long you’ve been panning! Those photos add up and can help you realize progress you might otherwise overlook.
  • If you goal is to hit pan or use something up entirely, try concentrating your brush/applicator in the same area each time you use it
  • Multitask your products: eyeshadows as highlighter, lipstick as blush, eyeshadow as brow powder, etc.
  • Layer eyeshadow to create different colors (this is especially helpful to get use out of shades you’re not fond of).
  • Have shadows with a ton of fall out?  Use water
  • Watching the progress of others’ can be fun but try not compare your progress to theirs.  We all use our makeup differently and have different goals.
  • Don’t restrict yourself to only using the item(s) you are working on.  It’s more than OK to incorporate other items or take a break!
  • Makeup should be fun….if you begin to dread doing your makeup because you made a commitment to use a product that you now hate, TOSS IT!  Do not force yourself to use up something you don’t like.  Move on to something else!  (This includes excluding particular shades from your goals if focusing on palettes, etc.)

Ideas to Help You Pan Those Items:

Spoiler
  • Roll the dice: number your items and use a random number generator to pick what you will use each (day/week/month/etc.)
  • Layer/Mask: items you are less fond of under things you like
  • Pan a Look: at the beginning of the week pick a look that you can wear everyday
  • Recreate: a look worn by a fellow BICer, celebrity, etc.
  • Spice up an "everyday" look by adding subtle pops of color (in the crease or on the lower lash line, mix lip products to make shades wearable, etc.)

Re: Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

OMG @jaaayp, congrats on finishing the Farmacy Brighten Up 3% TXA Dark Spot Toner with Azelaic Acid 4 oz / 120 mL!!! I've had mine for about a year now. I gave up on it after 8-wks of not seeing a difference. I still have 2/3 of the bottle left and was eyeballing it today after realizing I don't have space for all of the things I just unboxed 😑 Did it work for you? Idk if I should give it another try or throw it away. I hate being wasteful.

Re: Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

Oooh, really @furbie I actually just got a second bottle 😂 it works well for me. TXA is actually supposed to work better than vitamin C on lightening dark spots. A lot of the times, the vitamin c serums will include TXA (like iNNBEAUTY PROJECT Green Machine Vitamin C Dark Spot & Hyperpigmentation Serum 1 oz/ 30 mL ) I notice it the most when I have recent breakouts and the fresh scars, they don't just go away, of course, but I notice that it fades it faster (maybe lightens in 2 to 3 days vs a week). I am combining it with straight vitamin c though because dark sports are my biggest skin concerns. Of course, we all have different skin and it's very possible that mine just responds better to it as well. I say keep using it if you got it!!! Doesn't hurt 🤭

Re: Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

Re: Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

Thank you @lmaster !!! I've been so tempted to reach for other things but finishing something really feels good 😆

Re: Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

I finished the Charlotte Tilbury flawless filter so I can cross one item off my list!

February Progress

🦋 Monthly Summary: “Slow and steady” seems to be the motto this year as far as panning goes. That said, there was significant progress with a few items this month, including one that saw pan!! *squee! 🎉

February All Star(s): I have two All Stars this month -

  • Hanni Water Balm Instant Hydration Body Moisturizer Mist 6.76 oz / 200 mL. I’m really liking this beauty! 🥰 It took some work to remember to use it consistently, but that’s been remedied since I’ve found a permanent place for it on the bathroom counter. 👍🏼 If this month’s progress is any indicator, this one has a good chance of being used up well before the year is over

  • And the second all star award for this month goes to … wait for it … a shadow from the Natasha Denona Biba All Neutral Eyeshadow Palette Full Size Biba Neutral Eyeshadow Palette!! 😍 Yes, that’s right! Major progress made on the Biba palette. See below for deets.

🔍 Next Month’s Focus: I plan to continue to chip away at my project pan products next month but will make a little more effort in March to focus on reaching for these items more frequently or regularly:

  • OLEHENRIKSEN Wrinkle Blur™ Bakuchiol Eye Gel Crème 0.5 oz/ 15 mL-  Incorporating an eye cream into my evening routine on a regular basis has always been a challenge for me. That continued to be the case in February. To try to fix that, I’m moving the eye cream to my nightstand, where it will join my face oil, steam eye mask, and lip balm - my pre-bedtime treats. 😴

  • ND Biba - the prairie shade - the Biba palette made both lists this month, one good (yay, pan on the tone shade!) and the other, needing more attention with another shade. 😝

4 years, 50 days ...

2.2024 Pan - ND 2.jpg

Spoiler

I was half asleep when I did my makeup the morning I hit pan on the shade: tone. I actually didn’t realize it until that night when I sat down to transfer a few of the Biba shadows into a smaller palette to make it more portable. 👀😁 4 years, 50 days.

With hitting pan on the tone shadow, I have just one more shadow on which to hit pan from the ND Biba palette (I’m also aiming for full pan on two shimmery shadows, but those seem far more doable). An added hurdle is that the prairie is my least favorite shade in the palette. Of course it is, right?! But let’s not dwell on that for too long. I’ll noodle on how to make that shade work for me or at least how I might get more excited to reach for it. 😝 For now, I’m just so pleased with the continued progress made on this palette! 🙌 I've almost hit pan on every shadow @Samtian @ElleElleG ❣️

2.2024 Pan - WA.jpg

Spoiler
Also pleasing is the progress on the Westman Atelier Lip Suede - Les Nudes - there’s (surprisingly) so much product in this compact palette. To keep this top of mind, I plan to use this at least two days per week through the summer - if it fits into my weekly makeup capsule, it'll see more usage; if not, I'll either sub it in a couple of times per week or I'll look to it when I need to reapply (i.e., after lunch, etc).

2.2024 Pan - Body Care.jpg

Spoiler

A mix of progress to report with my body care products. Not seeing as much progress this month was 54 Thrones body butter. I reached for it 1-2 times per week, rotating it into my body care routine with 3 other already open body lotions/creams in various states of use. The plan for March is to make this one of just two body creams / lotions that I use. I might change that up in subsequent months but would like to see what progress looks like when it's a more focal point of my body care routine.

Phlur Vanilla Skin Mist has been good on its own or layered with other scents and a nice hair and body mist and refresher post-gym or after a long walk.

Ahhh, Hanni hydrating body moisturizer mist, how I love thee! So good and very convenient for infusing my skin with instant hydration after stepping out of the shower. I don't need to follow up with an oil or body cream but try to make a habit of doing so to keep my otherwise dry skin as hydrated and moisturized as possible. @ather, this one's worth checking out. 🛍 Is it available through Sephora Canada?

2.2024 Pan - Hair Care.jpg

Spoiler

Thanks to suggestions from @missjeanie  and @Mellmars1185 (thank you, thank you!), I found a way to make the Fable & Mane pre-wash oil work for me. From here on out, it’ll be no more than one dropper full of product on my scalp for 30 - 120 minutes once per week, followed by a detox shampoo.

I've been rotating through different hair styling and treatment products so there's only been incremental progress on the Oribe Nourishing Oil and the Ceremonia Guava Rescue Spray. I enjoy the results from both so the minimal movement has less to do with the products themselves. Going to see what progress looks like if these are the only products of their type that I use in March.

2.2024 Pan - Nail + Eye.jpg

Spoiler
I'm just looking to be consistent with these two beauties; the cuticle oil is doing better than the OleHenriksen eye cream, mainly because I was reaching for heavier creams in February. With spring coming (and possibly my allergies as well), the lighter gel-cream texture of this OH formula may see more use; it really does layer nicely.

That's all for my February check in. Very pleased to see pan on that ND shadow. 😊 Going to keep chipping away at everything else.

Re: Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

Love the motto @itsfi , even though it can be frustrating it's almost always worth it in the end.

Congrats on all your progress, especially that new pan (also that shade looks gorgeous) 😍😍. Is Prairie as mustardy as it appears in the photo? May make a good mix in shade 🤔

Re: Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

Ahhh, you’re a genius @ElleElleG! I’ve been trying to figure a way to use it but now I think with your suggestion and @Mellmars1185, I can get two uses out of it. That has got to make panning it come at a faster clip. 😆

Re: Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

@itsfi - YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

Exactly @Samtian! it’s coming along slowly, but surely. 😆

Re: Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

@itsfi  Oh my gosh. Watching the Biba is something I look forward to every month! Congratulations!!!

Re: Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

Awww, thank you @missjeanie. It feels, it has felt, so nice to have y'all with me on this adventure. 💗 We'll see how things go with this one last shadow as far as hitting pan. I've been incorporating it as a setting powder for my eyeshadows as @Mellmars1185 suggested (thanks again!) It's gotten me into the routine of reaching for it much more often than I had been. Gotta build up those habits!

Re: Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

Wow!! Absolutely impressive!! @itsfi
