Monthly Favorites: June 2023 Edition!

Monthly Favorites: June 2023Monthly Favorites: June 2023

Itโ€™s finally summer, BIC! But here in San Francisco, it hardly feels like it. ๐ŸŒฆ Whatโ€™s my favorite way to counteract this June gloom, you might ask? Aside from splurging at Sephora (oops), this month Iโ€™ve enjoyed streamlining my hair routine with a fancy new tool, channeling summer vibes with a glowy SPF, gluing my unruly eyebrows down until Iโ€™ve reached lamination-worthy perfection, and brightening my complexion. I refuse to let my skin be as dull as this Bay Area weather. And with a little help from my new June faves, things are starting to look upโ€ฆ as far as my beauty routine is concerned, at least! ๐ŸŒž

Here are the products that have me feeling jazzed this June:

  • Dyson Airstraitโ„ข Straightener
  • PATRICK TA Major Brow Lamination Gel 0.17 oz/ 5 mL
  • Rare Beauty by Selena Gomez Positive Light Under Eye Brightener
  • Summer Fridays CC Me Vitamin C + Niacinamide Serum 1.0 oz/ 30 mL
  • Supergoop! Glowscreen SPF 40 Sunscreen with Hyaluronic Acid + Niacinamide 1.7 oz Golden Hour / 50 mL

What about you, BIC? Reply below and let us know what products youโ€™ve been reaching for most often this month.  Donโ€™t forget to tag those products with the โ€œ#โ€ symbol (hair, makeup, fragrance, wellness, skincare, etc.)!

Re: Monthly Favorites: June 2023 Edition!

Ooh a States trip would be so exciting! @missjeanie I hope you do get to go and stock up on hard to get faves. ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿคโค๏ธ I get huge thrills shopping across the border. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Re: Monthly Favorites: June 2023 Edition!

@CynthieLu I mostly have to order online here, my closest store is actually in the US, so I'm very excited to see a larger store than the Khol's one I can usually get to.  So many shades to see in person, so many formulas and brands to check out!!  lol I'm sure my vacay partner is going to be so excited to spend hours swatching lol

Re: Monthly Favorites: June 2023 Edition!

@CynthieLu k18 sisters!!!! I still haven't gotten my hands on the K18 Biomimetic Hairscience Molecular Repair Hair Oil 1 oz / 30 mL is it better than Olaplex No. 7 Bonding Oil ?? ๐Ÿค”๐Ÿค”

Re: Monthly Favorites: June 2023 Edition!

I think Olaplex's Oil is the best smelling for sure,  I love its carmel sugary scent ๐Ÿ˜‹๐Ÿ’–  @jaaayp

Hard to say thou,  they both do and act very differently. Everyone uses products in thier own way, For K18 I rotate it with Olaplex, one wash with one and than the next wash with the other. I only have been using the K18 oil on days I use thier mask.

I like them both for different days and different things ๐Ÿ˜‰

I will say K18 oil absorbs wonderful (with 1 drop before and after styling )and my split ends have gone down drastically with it.  It's been a life saver for the ends of my hair.

Re: Monthly Favorites: June 2023 Edition!

Ah, the mortal enemy, split ends.. thanks for sharing @CynthieLu definitely added to my basket (my wallet won't let me press checkout but let's me add) ๐Ÿ˜‚

Re: Monthly Favorites: June 2023 Edition!

The AC lip oil is so terrific @CynthieLu ! Love the feel of it so much too! ๐Ÿ’ž Hair mask too. Great favs.

Re: Monthly Favorites: June 2023 Edition!

Thank you. โฃ๏ธ You can't go wrong with any of these @Sunnysmom. ๐Ÿ˜Š

Re: Monthly Favorites: June 2023 Edition!

@CynthieLu Yay! Amazing faves. I didn't know about that Skinfix set -- I love all things Skinfix! Also glad to hear you're enjoying the Ami Cole lip oil! Yes, let's get them to Canada! lol. I have the deepest brown shade in Excellence that I received for gratis during a Black-Owned Brands event here at Sephora HQ, and I was surprised at how versatile it wears on different skin tones, and feels nice and hydrating.

Re: Monthly Favorites: June 2023 Edition!

That's exciting @AlexBT, I need hydration in my lipsticks. (Mine are naturaly quite dry)๐Ÿ’„ That is really encouraging to hear. ๐Ÿ˜€

Re: Monthly Favorites: June 2023 Edition!

Ok my ladies, I have the most sensitive weirdest eyes of anyoneโ€ฆ I canโ€™t really use any liner, if I sweat and it runs heaven help meโ€ฆ it runs directly into the corners of my eyes where it sets up shop until I can get home to properly take care of the situation. By then, infection has set. And I donโ€™t mean like a regular infections, oh no, my eyes tend to grow their own mucus and spit it out, it feels like sandpaper while itโ€™s in my eyes - so super uncomfortable which causes lots of rubbing and wrinkles- once this mucus booger like substance is fat enough down and I can pull it outโ€”- let me say that sometimes u can physical see it from my hand still attached to my eyeโ€ฆ it so gross. So now that ur caught upโ€” any sensitive recommendations on eye liner or mascara??? Any makeup sweat proof???  Pls help!!!

Re: Monthly Favorites: June 2023 Edition!

@jennfromberlin  I assume youโ€˜ve already seen an eye doctor or primary care doc about your eye condition? If not, and you can see a doc, thatโ€™s my first bit of advice.

Next, hereโ€™s how I usually apply winged eyeliner:

  1. Use a grippy eyeshadow primer along my lash line and out onto the skin beside my eye. Give that a couple minute to set up.
  2. Apply eyeliner over the primer. For me, this is usually a pencil liner; can be gel or kohl. Iโ€™ve yet to find one thatโ€™s absolutely budgeproof on its own (without doing these 3 steps).
  3. Dust a bit of translucent setting powder over the linerโ€”especially the wing and the outer corner of my eyeโ€”for extra stay-put insurance. My favorite setting powder for this and concealer is By Terry Hyaluronic Hydra-Powder, but whichever one works best for you is fine.

And hereโ€™s a bit about my eye issues, for reference:

Spoiler
My eyes are fairly sensitive and very allergy symptom prone. I also have an eye condition that causes that obnoxiously painful gritty eye feeling despite how watery my eyes getโ€”and they get very watery all day, which is super fun while Iโ€™m trying to apply eye makeup or undereye concealer. Simply applying eyeshadow with the gentlest pressure and softest brush can make my eyes waterfalls.

And I have hooded eyes that greatly increase the chance of shadows and liners transferring and running/bleeding.

If your eyes donโ€™t react to eyeshadow like they do to eyeliners, you could instead try applying eyeshadow over primer as a liner. Whatever you try, I hope you find a solution! I know how annoying it is to have eye makeup and/or sunscreen seep into your eyes and gunk up in there.

Re: Monthly Favorites: June 2023 Edition!

@jennfromberlin Have you contemplated just using a wet to dry shadow on the mobile lid as a liner?

Re: Monthly Favorites: June 2023 Edition!

Oh jeez thatโ€™s awful. I assume you have tried different types but if it keeps happening it maybe the canvas, your body, that is the issue.  There maybe a certain ingredient, the skin canโ€™t handle any blockage (maybe powder liner?) or systemically your body is overreacting to anything there.

The skin often reflects internal issues and whenever thereโ€™s something re-occuring like this I have to wonder if itโ€™s allergies. Doesnโ€™t have to be the product  either but can be that your body is on such high alert that it will over-react to anything. Particularly because according to Johns Hopkins Medicine, if you notice watery discharge with stringy mucus in your eyes, you may have allergic conjunctivitis.

The mucus is stringy because the histamine response causes the secretions to stick together.

I would try a  daytime allergy med consistently, like Zyrtec or Allegra in the daytime.  But with skin it takes time to see turnover so youโ€™ll have to take it for a couple weeks  and then slowly test the eye makeup.

I do have to wonder if a powder lining maybe be more forgiving as itโ€™s breathable than  a thick silicone or kohl based liner. But try the liner on the back of your hand for a hour or 2 to see . Or physicians formula eyeliner is brought up for hypoallergenic  and waterproof

Hi

Re: Monthly Favorites: June 2023 Edition!

Hi

Re: Monthly Favorites: June 2023 Edition!

@AlexBT loving this convo!

Anastasia Beverly Hills Norvinaยฎ Pro Pigment Palette Vol. 4 for Face & Body has been quite the pick me up for me this month! It's been part of my collection for a while and this month I keep reaching for it. Must be the vibrant shades and combinations for looks!

Sun protection 'go to' has been Fenty Skin Hydra Vizor Invisible Moisturizer Broad Spectrum SPF 30 !  Considering the purchase of a setting spray with SPF for added protection when summer is in full effect. Would greatly appreciate recommendations from anyone!

Re: Monthly Favorites: June 2023 Edition!

@elenaenjoyscosm Beautiful palette of pretty summer shades!  I use a few different sprays with SPF and I'm partial to the Coola ones I get from Ulta but also keep a Sun Bum face mist SPF45 on hand.  I'm perusing some from Stylevanna to try out next.  The Biore UV Aqua Riche is a line that has an SPF 50 mist.  I've used a few of their lotions and I really love them, so I think it's next on my list.

Re: Monthly Favorites: June 2023 Edition!

Thank you for the great recommendations @missjeanie ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿพ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿพ. Definitely adding them to my list to check out!  From my research thus far, there are positive reviews for Soleil Toujours Set + Protect Makeup Setting Spray SPF 30 with Hyaluronic Acid 1.7 oz / 50 mL but it's currently out of stock...potentially another indication it might be worth trying? ๐Ÿค”

I would love to know if you have any thoughts or feedback about this product, too!

Re: Monthly Favorites: June 2023 Edition!

@elenaenjoyscosm Oh I hadn't seen this one.  This brand isn't on Sephora Canada at the moment but I'll keep an eye out when I'm in the states!

Re: Monthly Favorites: June 2023 Edition!

Wow thatโ€™s got some gorgeous shades in it @elenaenjoyscosm , enjoy them! I canโ€™t stop staring at the periwinkle-ish blue in the center! ๐Ÿคฉ

Re: Monthly Favorites: June 2023 Edition!

@elenaenjoyscosm Oooh stunnin'! I support this plan to try out and wear every single shade!!! Thanks for sharing ๐Ÿคฉ
