Monthly Favorites: June 2023
Itโs finally summer, BIC! But here in San Francisco, it hardly feels like it. ๐ฆ Whatโs my favorite way to counteract this June gloom, you might ask? Aside from splurging at Sephora (oops), this month Iโve enjoyed streamlining my hair routine with a fancy new tool, channeling summer vibes with a glowy SPF, gluing my unruly eyebrows down until Iโve reached lamination-worthy perfection, and brightening my complexion. I refuse to let my skin be as dull as this Bay Area weather. And with a little help from my new June faves, things are starting to look upโฆ as far as my beauty routine is concerned, at least! ๐
Here are the products that have me feeling jazzed this June:
What about you, BIC? Reply below and let us know what products youโve been reaching for most often this month. Donโt forget to tag those products with the โ#โ symbol (hair, makeup, fragrance, wellness, skincare, etc.)!
Ooh a States trip would be so exciting! @missjeanie I hope you do get to go and stock up on hard to get faves. ๐๐คโค๏ธ I get huge thrills shopping across the border. ๐
@CynthieLu I mostly have to order online here, my closest store is actually in the US, so I'm very excited to see a larger store than the Khol's one I can usually get to. So many shades to see in person, so many formulas and brands to check out!! lol I'm sure my vacay partner is going to be so excited to spend hours swatching lol
@CynthieLu k18 sisters!!!! I still haven't gotten my hands on the K18 Biomimetic Hairscience Molecular Repair Hair Oil 1 oz / 30 mL is it better than Olaplex No. 7 Bonding Oil ?? ๐ค๐ค
I think Olaplex's Oil is the best smelling for sure, I love its carmel sugary scent ๐๐ @jaaayp
Hard to say thou, they both do and act very differently. Everyone uses products in thier own way, For K18 I rotate it with Olaplex, one wash with one and than the next wash with the other. I only have been using the K18 oil on days I use thier mask.
I like them both for different days and different things ๐
I will say K18 oil absorbs wonderful (with 1 drop before and after styling )and my split ends have gone down drastically with it. It's been a life saver for the ends of my hair.
Ah, the mortal enemy, split ends.. thanks for sharing @CynthieLu definitely added to my basket (my wallet won't let me press checkout but let's me add) ๐
The AC lip oil is so terrific @CynthieLu ! Love the feel of it so much too! ๐ Hair mask too. Great favs.
Thank you. โฃ๏ธ You can't go wrong with any of these @Sunnysmom. ๐
@CynthieLu Yay! Amazing faves. I didn't know about that Skinfix set -- I love all things Skinfix! Also glad to hear you're enjoying the Ami Cole lip oil! Yes, let's get them to Canada! lol. I have the deepest brown shade in Excellence that I received for gratis during a Black-Owned Brands event here at Sephora HQ, and I was surprised at how versatile it wears on different skin tones, and feels nice and hydrating.
That's exciting @AlexBT, I need hydration in my lipsticks. (Mine are naturaly quite dry)๐ That is really encouraging to hear. ๐
Ok my ladies, I have the most sensitive weirdest eyes of anyoneโฆ I canโt really use any liner, if I sweat and it runs heaven help meโฆ it runs directly into the corners of my eyes where it sets up shop until I can get home to properly take care of the situation. By then, infection has set. And I donโt mean like a regular infections, oh no, my eyes tend to grow their own mucus and spit it out, it feels like sandpaper while itโs in my eyes - so super uncomfortable which causes lots of rubbing and wrinkles- once this mucus booger like substance is fat enough down and I can pull it outโ- let me say that sometimes u can physical see it from my hand still attached to my eyeโฆ it so gross. So now that ur caught upโ any sensitive recommendations on eye liner or mascara??? Any makeup sweat proof??? Pls help!!!
@jennfromberlin I assume youโve already seen an eye doctor or primary care doc about your eye condition? If not, and you can see a doc, thatโs my first bit of advice.
Next, hereโs how I usually apply winged eyeliner:
And hereโs a bit about my eye issues, for reference:
If your eyes donโt react to eyeshadow like they do to eyeliners, you could instead try applying eyeshadow over primer as a liner. Whatever you try, I hope you find a solution! I know how annoying it is to have eye makeup and/or sunscreen seep into your eyes and gunk up in there.
@jennfromberlin Have you contemplated just using a wet to dry shadow on the mobile lid as a liner?
Oh jeez thatโs awful. I assume you have tried different types but if it keeps happening it maybe the canvas, your body, that is the issue. There maybe a certain ingredient, the skin canโt handle any blockage (maybe powder liner?) or systemically your body is overreacting to anything there.
The mucus is stringy because the histamine response causes the secretions to stick together.
I would try a daytime allergy med consistently, like Zyrtec or Allegra in the daytime. But with skin it takes time to see turnover so youโll have to take it for a couple weeks and then slowly test the eye makeup.
I do have to wonder if a powder lining maybe be more forgiving as itโs breathable than a thick silicone or kohl based liner. But try the liner on the back of your hand for a hour or 2 to see . Or physicians formula eyeliner is brought up for hypoallergenic and waterproof
Hi
@AlexBT loving this convo!
Anastasia Beverly Hills Norvinaยฎ Pro Pigment Palette Vol. 4 for Face & Body has been quite the pick me up for me this month! It's been part of my collection for a while and this month I keep reaching for it. Must be the vibrant shades and combinations for looks!
Sun protection 'go to' has been Fenty Skin Hydra Vizor Invisible Moisturizer Broad Spectrum SPF 30 ! Considering the purchase of a setting spray with SPF for added protection when summer is in full effect. Would greatly appreciate recommendations from anyone!
Anastasia Beverly Hills Norvina Vol. 4
@elenaenjoyscosm Beautiful palette of pretty summer shades! I use a few different sprays with SPF and I'm partial to the Coola ones I get from Ulta but also keep a Sun Bum face mist SPF45 on hand. I'm perusing some from Stylevanna to try out next. The Biore UV Aqua Riche is a line that has an SPF 50 mist. I've used a few of their lotions and I really love them, so I think it's next on my list.
Thank you for the great recommendations @missjeanie ๐๐พ๐๐พ. Definitely adding them to my list to check out! From my research thus far, there are positive reviews for Soleil Toujours Set + Protect Makeup Setting Spray SPF 30 with Hyaluronic Acid 1.7 oz / 50 mL but it's currently out of stock...potentially another indication it might be worth trying? ๐ค
I would love to know if you have any thoughts or feedback about this product, too!
@elenaenjoyscosm Oh I hadn't seen this one. This brand isn't on Sephora Canada at the moment but I'll keep an eye out when I'm in the states!
Wow thatโs got some gorgeous shades in it @elenaenjoyscosm , enjoy them! I canโt stop staring at the periwinkle-ish blue in the center! ๐คฉ
@elenaenjoyscosm Oooh stunnin'! I support this plan to try out and wear every single shade!!! Thanks for sharing ๐คฉ
