The why behind a black base under magnetics:

It's definitely not required, but can have a couple of benefits! 

A deeper base can help the contrasting colors in the magnetic pop a little more, especially if the polish itself is on the sheer side. It can also help conserve your fancy magnetic, getting you full coverage in one coat instead of needing two or three (or more) coats for opacity, which is useful if you are worried about using it up too quickly. But if it's fairly opaque on its own, and/or finishing a bottle isn't something you really worry about, you can skip the black if you want!

Thank you for that explanation 🙏 @RGbrown ahhh I see,that makes alot of sense 🙂 I think than this one would have had enough opacity to be used solo. At the end of the day maybe I was drawn to the black to help bring out that look I had envisioned, being the night sky and all 😉 now I want to see it solo out of curiosity 😄

Definitely give it whirl both ways...you might find you like one better than the other, or that they come out about the same...the experimentation process is worth it to find your fave!

Another Black Dahlia skittle 💖

BDL Sdrawkcab (pinky): the name is Backwards, spelled backwards 😅 Apparently there's a Backwards Day, and they did up a duo for it. The other one of the set was sold out when I made my purchase IIRC, but this one is lovely on its own. It's a soft lavender shimme with a purple/blue shifting aurora shimmer and a pinch of silver reflective glitter. Three coats for opacity, easy though.

Mystery 20 (ring, my number just to keep them all straight in my collection): navy blue jelly base with green/aqua/blue shifting shimmer and red/orange shifting flakies. The shifts are hard to catch on camera, but this one is lovely IRL. Three coats for opacity, not fussy though.

Bells of Ireland (middle): clear base with green holo glitter. Four coats for opacity, this would make an excellent topper as well, or might be easier to sponge on next time. 

Mystery 17 (index): glitter bomb! Clear base loaded mostly with bright purple glitter with pinches of blue, silver, and gold, maybe some black too? Some of it is also holo. This had denser coverage (and some of the glitters are much larger) than Bells of Ireland and only took three coats for opacity. 

Mystery 9: indoors, this is a dirty grey linear holo that maybe has a hint of brown, but out in the (overcast) sun today, the brown takes on way more prominence. Also has a pinch of holo microflakies. The holo is decently strong, and even if the brown side of this one isn't my fave, I can appreciate the uniqueness of this shade...kinda reminds me of PMG Divine Mink with the "I can't tell if it's brown or grey, but I think I like it" vibe 😅

Oh, and a side note on dip powder repairs...I have figured out how to stop the wrinkling I was getting, yay! Once I've done the glue + powder, I add a drop of thinner and let dry. That goes ahead and sets the wrinkling off, and I can file it down before adding my polish on top. 

They still aren't lasting me all that long, but I still think it's a way lower effort to teabags, and I'm mostly ok with having to redo it most every polish change.

Eh, sure, they take a bit longer to remove, but my silicone nail caps make it super quick compared to trying to scrub it off. Five minutes or so of letting them soak and it slides right off! ✨ I bought these things on a whim, figured I had half a chance of hating them and never using them, but they quickly became one of my favorites tools ever and I can't imagine not having them now 💕

The medium bag is a lot! Here's mine from 2018 

6 large polishes, 8 small polishes, dry drops, cuticle oil, top coat, base coat 😲

If that's too much to digest at once, their Cyber Monday offering has 4pc mystery bags for $20 (small bottles) or $30 (big bottles)...but that day also has 30% off sitewide, so they come out to $14 or $21. It's a really nice deal for a smaller sampling...I usually order 2 😂
