Makeup Madness Challenge 2023

It’s March, and here in the BIC that can only mean one thing… 🥁… It’s time to celebrate the anniversary of one of our favorite activities: MAKEUP MADNESS! Yes, we’re bringing back this fan-favorite challenge for the third year in a row, where our beloved makeup categories go head-to-head in the ultimate showdown to earn the crown of Community Champion. 👑

This year, we’ve retired our previous winners – Mascara (2021) and Lipstick (2022) – and brought in a mix of some new and old categories to face off in some fierce competition. It’s up to YOU to vote on the winner … and share some tried-and-true beauty recs along the way (that’s what we’re really here for, after all).

YESSSS  IT'S THAT TIME AGAIN

I don't usually go for either, but yet somehow I have them in my wares..Lip liner narrowly edges out plumper for me, just because I don't really go for plumpers (although the Dior and Lawless ones are clutch).

@TeamBIC - I can't believe I'm not late to the party!

I don't use either product, but I vote for lip pencil since I regularly use the Urban Decay Ultimate Ozone Multipurpose Primer Pencil 0.10 oz/ 3 g .  I also have the Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Waterproof Lip Liner Ozone just in case.

Oh my gosh.. .This has been a favourite thread the last few years!  I'm team Lip Liner alllll the way.  I'm not into a burning lip moment.  I'm not super particular about my lip liner but a tried and true is the MAC Cosmetics Lip Pencil Magneta

@TeamBIC oh lip liner 100% of the way. One of my all time favorites is the MAKE UP FOR EVER Artist Color Pencil Brow, Eye & Lip Liner 710 Perpetual Fire they are so creamy!

Without question my favorite is lip liner. I have no need to plump my lips so I don't use anything from the category. Both of my favorites are from Black and Latina owned companies that unfortunately sephora doesn't carry, so I can't tag them. I highly recommend TheLipBar straight line lip liner in Straight Forward (all the colors are great) and Alamar Cosmetics desNUDEAs lip liner in Dulce. They are both smooth, long wearing and make for a fantastic natural lip look for me.

I definitely don’t love an overly tingly lip situation, but I also am not really a lip liner wearer. However, I’m going to through my vote behind CLINIQUE Quickliner™ For Lips Lip Liner because Clinique doesn’t get enough love and I do have a few shades of this from a lip kit with a lipstick and gloss!

@alexasteph You're right!  Clinique doesn't get enough love. My all time fav (discontinued) lip liner was Clinique Sky Violet.  Never found a better one after that.

Lip liner! It’s saved many a bold lip colour from settling into the lines on my lips and bleeding out onto the rest of my makeup. Plus, I feel my lips are plenty full already so I don’t feel like lip plumper does much for me. I have a set of lip liners from Amazon that works surprisingly well, but I also like NARS Precision Lip Liner.

Whew, I’m glad past winners are retired. Don’t think I could handle lipstick losing this year. 😂

My vote this round: lip liner. 

I use lip liner to control misbehaving (bleeding/feathering) lipsticks. My gold standard for this task is PAT McGRATH LABS Permagel Ultra Lip Pencil , the longest wearing liner I’ve ever used. 

I also use liners to tweak the color of lipsticks, create ombré looks, and sometimes to be a full lip color on their own—no lipstick needed. Pat’s liner is great for that last scenario; for the other 2, I prefer a non-gel liner like Linda Hallberg’s LH Cosmetics Crayon. 

My lips don’t like mint oil or capsaicin extract in lip products. I love spicy food but don’t want that burn on my lips all day, even if plumpers contain far less heat than most of the dishes I make and eat. So, this round is an easy choice for me.

WinglessOne, thank you for mentioning using lip liners alone. I also do that sometimes as I find the lip liners often stay on the best in certain spots and can provide a nice matte color depending on which brand you use.

@TeamBIC  Ouhhhh lip liner for sure now that I have micro lip lines that allow lipsticks to bleed.  I am loving the new Patrick Starrr lip liners!  They’re just creamy enough to not pull on my lips but dry enough for longevity. It’s apparently waterproof but I haven’t tested that yet.   ONE/SIZE by Patrick Starrr Lip Snatcher Waterproof Precision Lip Liner
