Makeup Help?!

I really don't know what i am doing wrong here. I have never had this type of issue with my skin before.

I am 33 and I can't find a makeup routine that works with my skin.

As you can see, i have dry patches from my nose down. My makeup is settling into my skin and completely disappearing.

On my forehead, it's also disappearing and settling into my fine lines and I am also have issues with pilling.

I have watched videos, i've researched ingredients. I've tried applying makeup with and without skincare underneath. With and without primer. Different types of foundation, skin tints, with setting spray, without setting spray.

Any suggestions? Ideas? I live in a small town and the closest dermatologist is going to be about a 2 hour drive from me. I don't know that a dermatologist is the answer, though. My skin seems fine as long as I don't try to put makeup on it. Once i put any type of foundation on, it makes the dry patches and fine lines super prominent.

Re: Makeup Help?!

@haleyah08, honestly it might not be your makeup.  Is the air around you drying, or are you drinking less water and fluids than you normally would?  Sometimes it's other factors that can affect your skin vs your routine since they all intersect.

The piling, it's probably one of the actives reacting with an emollient.  You can try doing them different days and just in the evening, or perhaps moving it towards the end.  Also, when you apply your base, think patting in gently vs swiping or rubbing motions, usually that's when the piling or balling up happens more.  Also, allow for additional dry down time.

Honestly, sometimes I get the piling, and I just go about my day, I knock off the excess with a clean fan brush so I don't ruin everything and just lightly apply the major things needed .   For me, the main culprit is The Ordinary Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% Oil Control Serum , it's pretty watery, so I use it usually in the evenings, but sometimes it balls up my moisturizer, so since I am using it to usually spot treat, it goes last.
