"Fashion's biggest night" aka The Met Gala will have occurred on May 4, following on the heels of the premiere of The Devil Wears Prada 2, the sequel to one of the most well known fashion-industry-inspired films. Curate a makeup capsule with one or more makeup products from launched by a fashion house or fashion designer and/or inspired by any of the following:

What is a makeup capsule?

A makeup capsule is a collection of makeup products curated by you with the intent of simplifying your makeup routine without compromising quality or functionality. It typically includes essential products that can be used to create a variety of look. A makeup capsule can reduce clutter, help save time getting ready in the morning or for events, and provide you with a streamlined and versatile makeup wardrobe tailored to work for you, your budget and lifestyle. While makeup capsules generally include a few pieces, the size of your capsule collection is ultimate up to you.

Why a makeup capsule challenge?

Many of us here have a robust collection of makeup and it can be difficult to pare that down to a handful of pieces for capsule. This challenge, with its weekly themes, is meant as a fun way to try your hand at curating a makeup capsule for yourself. Each week you'll have an opportunity to go through your collection, identify one or more product(s) that fits the weekly theme (all you need is one product for this challenge), and put together a makeup look with that and other products.

The challenge is also another way to use your makeup stash, allowing you a chance to discover products you might have missed out on or re-discover past favorites. @itsfi ,  ahhhh ok. I'm late to the MAC party, so a lot of this newness is really rehashed shades, I think? I do like True Harmony, I also picked up MAC Cosmetics Glow Play Cushiony Lightweight Buildable Blurring Blush Ginger Luck and MAC Cosmetics Glow Play Cushiony Lightweight Buildable Blurring Blush Big Diva Energy .  They are really fun, play is in the name and that's definitely what the texture leads to.  It's not super putty like and I like that. 

I really love these lip liners.  I didn't understand the purpose of a glossy lip liner, TBH, but I use them in two ways.  One is below the lip line for ombre like lip and the second I picked up from IG jamalkendoll, as the lip liner on a matte lip look, gives the matte lip more definition and doesn't transfer vs using gloss in the center.  MAC Cosmetics Lipglazer Glossy Lip Liner Ribbon is the current fave.

Interesting on the RB, what made it stay since it was on the chopping block?

Whoops, sorry, thought I answered this question (maybe I did in my head, lol) @danielledanielle. RB was on the chopping block because I didn't ever reach for it and it looked more sparkly and glowy than typically wear - it was a highlighter declutter day too so I was in a certain frame of mind. Turns out it isn't as sparkly as I thought or at least it can be sheered out a bit with the right brush. I found one I like for most of my baked cheek products and that and a soft, loose fan brush works for me and the RB. Also, I like that it's a nice blushlight shade for me and pairing it with a couple of my go-to bronzers worked well.

@danielledanielle, they've been around but not that long, though with how quickly and how many releases come out, it feels like a while. Love the Big Diva Energy name - so great!!! Gorgeous berry color, too. 

lol, when I saw that gloss liner my first thought was "I'm not sure why or how that would work but gloss-and-liner-in-one? I'm all for it!" Oooouuuh, those are good tips for use, thank you, thank you! I'll try to remember to take a longer peek at them next week, just a "peek" she says ... 🤣

Week 14 - The Baked Makeup Capsule (with a hint of pink)

I'll be rotating these two capsules this week. I planned on including at least one baked makeup product in this week's capsule; both capsules do just that, and also, by happenstance, include a pink / pink-adjacent lip shade. I had forgotten about the other capsule theme this week (which included a pink shade) but it seems I can check off that box as well, with both capsules, too!

The Baked Makeup Capsule #1:

It's been a while since I've used a Laura Gellar product; I have her Laura Geller Double Take Full Coverage Baked Powder Foundation (not shown) in addition to these beauties. I've had these in my stash for a while, before Sephora started carrying the brand, some having been used once or twice. This week seemed like a good time to pull them out and put them to use. 😉

Primer: see below

Concealer: Tower 28 Beauty Swipe All-Over Hydrating Serum Concealer with 18-HR Wear has been one I've been reaching for a lot more since coming back from Los Angeles. It, along with Studio Fix Powder Plus Foundation with 24HR Oil Control + Blur-Matte Finish - MAC Cosmetics | Sephora to set the concealer, has been holding up really well with the current wishy-washiness of the spring weather

Foundation: Laura Gellar Double Take Full Coverage Baked Powder Foundation if I'm the mood for a more full face of makeup. Otherwise, it'll just be the T28 concealer for a little dot at the corner of my under eyes, around the sides of my nose and over a healing post-acne dark spot on my cheek and to conceal a few dark spots around my face,  with the MAC Studio Fix to set the concealer.

Setting Spray: I should be fine foregoing setting spray if I'm using LG powder foundation as the powder does a nice job of setting my makeup as well. To the extent I'm just using concealer, I'll set with the MAC powder and PAT McGRATH LABS Skin Fetish: Glass 001 Legendary Glow Setting Spray 3.38 fl oz/100 mL for some dewiness. I don't need the PML if I'm using the baked powder as I find it gives me enough of a glow on its own.

Eyes:

Primer: T28 Concealer + MAC Studio Fix

Eyeshadow: Laura Gellar The Best of the Best Full FAce Baked Powder Palette - Tuscan Dreams - this will be the first time I try out these shadows from the palette. Weather is forecasted to be more moderate, cooler, with a chance of rain near the end of the week so I'm hopeful that I won't have any issues with allergies which makes eye makeup for the week a possibility.

Mascara: this week, it'll be either these two alone or together - Clio Kill Superproof Mascara Extreme Volume topped with DIOR Diorshow Overvolume Extreme Volume Mascara Overblack 

Brows: Kosas Air Brow Tinted Clean Volumizing Eyebrow Gel - this and 2 other brow products will be seeing a lot of use over the next couple of months - I've had them open in my stash for a while and feel the need to get more use out of them. This teeny-tiny mini from Kosas is close to being used up, too, so it'll be nice to move it along

Cheeks:

The LG palette will be my primary product for blush, bronzer and highlight, but I've included my beloved TOM FORD Soleil Glow Bronzer for Buildable, Luminous Finish 02 Terra in case I need a smidge more warmth to my complexion. The shade and undertone of the bronzer in the palette is beautiful; I love the neutral undertone, it can serve as a light contour or brontour. The TF though is a tried and true when I just need an all-over warmth - that bronzer in the LG Tuscan Dreams palette isn't one I can use over my entire face.

Lips: 
Rom&nd The Juicy Lasting Lip Tint - 03 Bare Grape 

Tips, Tricks & Techniques: For me, I find that when using baked makeup products, it can be better for me to apply my concealer first and then use the baked powder base. My makeup goes on and looks better this way so that's what I'll plan to do for this capsule.

The Baked Makeup Capsule #2: The Sephora Collection Edit

This is the first time I've done an all Sephora Collection makeup capsule. The items perform well on their own and I'm looking forward to seeing how it holds up together. A couple of sleeping beauties here that I've rediscovered while  shopping-my-stash.

Primer: see below for this week's options

Base: SEPHORA COLLECTION Reveal The Real 12HR Soft Radiant Skin Tint (I'm close to being finished with the bottle so I'm tossing it into a capsule here and there to help it along. Has a satin-y, softly blurred finish.

Concealer: SEPHORA COLLECTION Best Skin Ever Multi-Use Hydrating Glow Concealer  - as with the SC foundation, I'm just chipping away at this one. It does well for under the eyes, blemishes and redness but I'm partial to using it for the under eye area

Setting powder: SEPHORA COLLECTION Microsmooth Multi-Tasking Baked Face Powder Foundation (15 Nude, now named 15 Fair) to set. If I want something with more color, I'll go with SEPHORA COLLECTION Microsmooth Multi-Tasking Baked Face Powder Foundation 30 Sand with a light hand - the undertone on this one is good for me but if I apply too many layers, you can see the color is a bit off. The other shade as a better coloring when layered but the undertones in that one lean more yellow than suits me.

Eyes:

No specific eye products in this capsule, but, in a pinch, I may use the bronzer and highlight shades from the SC palette for eyeshadow. 

Cheeks: 

SEPHORA COLLECTION Microsmooth Multi-Tasking Baked Face Palette Captivate (gratis, December 2022) - a hidden gem. I'm particularly fond of the bronzer (bottom left) shade with the IT Cosmetics blush brush (93?) Have been having a harder time with the deeper blush in the upper right hand corner but will continue to keep trying to get it the way I want. 

Bronzer: I do like the bronzer in the SC palette but am including the SEPHORA COLLECTION Microsmooth Multi-Tasking Baked Face Powder Foundation 60 Ebony, just for another option. FYI: this SC 60 and SC 65  are pretty close to the Armani Beauty Luminous Silk Creamy Bronzing Powder. 

Contour: choice among SEPHORA COLLECTION Sephora Colorful® Contour Matte Powder and SEPHORA COLLECTION Cream Contour Stick - Fair to Light and Light to Medium.

Lips:

SEPHORA COLLECTION Lip Tint Felt Lip Stain & Liner 04 Cocoa Swipe and Sephora Collection Rouge Lacquer Lipstick L15 Not Your Baby (discontinued), worn alone or together. If I wear the SC stain alone, I will apply a dab of lip balm over it. It doesn't dry out my lips all that much but having an extra layer of balm doesn't hurt. L15 Not Your Baby is a mid-tone pink - shows up on my lips more neutral / neutral-to-slightly warm. IRL, you can pick up more warmth from the shade when swatched on my arm.

I may try an ombre lip with this color later in the week or over the weekend, à la 🏫🎓BIC University 🎓🏫

I've been going with my skincare as primer but am aiming to get more use of a handful of primers in my collection this month, including these beauties. 

Touch In Sol Sherbet Primer - part of pan! it challenge - the cooling sensation feels wonderful when it's extra warm outside.

ciele prime & PROTECT SPF 30+ Smoothing Primer Original - I tend to use skincare to achieve a dewy / glass skin look (an approach / technique that is more reflective of how makeup is done in South Korea and other Asian countries than here). ciele recently launched another variation of this primer, one geared towards more brightening. For me, I prefer the original given the (skincare and makeup) products I more often use.

Gucci Hydrating Silk Priming Serum 1 and TOM FORD Traceless Soft Matte Primer with Pore-Smoothing Effect 1 oz/ 30 mL are ones I'm debating whether to keep, pass or possibly pick up a full size. If I do decided to purchase a full size, it likely won't be until I get through a few more primers from my collection, so more fall/holiday savings event versus the upcoming spring savings event. 🤔

As I mentioned above, the blush in the Sephora Collection palette isn't the easiest for me to use so I've included the Rare Beauty by Selena Gomez Soft Pinch Luminous Powder Blush Hope  which I generally use as a blush topper but may reach for this one this week for a blushlight look.

Makeup by Mario just in case. This MAKEUP BY MARIO SoftSculpt Transforming Skin Enhancer® and the TOM FORD Soleil Glow Bronzer for Buildable, Luminous Finish 02 Terra are my GOAT items when I'm looking to add a hint of "natural" warmth to my complexion. I received MBM in Light-Medium as gratis a couple years ago but have since picked up Light and Medium and go with whichever shade is best suited for my complexion at the time. Light-Medium is more doable on my skin during the latter part of summer, if it's a summer when I'm out in the sun more (even with SPF I can get a little more color).

The Fits: 

Keeping all of the products from both capsule in one place, one bag; namely, this one from Summer Fridays, which I picked up from The Merch Shop at SEPHORiA 2026: Los Angeles. This baby is spacious without being bulky or unwieldy. And look how everything can fit neatly in there, even the fragrance, setting spray and primers that are on the table in the pic above. I like. 👍

She's definitely an OG if not the pioneer of the baked products @danielledanielle; at least as far as I remember. Yeah, I've been doing some rearranging, reorganizing, and re-homing of a few things so I'm seeing more ways to categorize my collection, which I'm not sure is a good idea. 🤣 But, I'm sloooowwwly pulling out different parts of my stash of products... and finding I had more than I thought. 😮  I seem to be good at finding discreet places to store random mini makeup capsules. 😜

Week 13 - The Easter Inspired Makeup Capsule

• Cle de Peau The Foundation (from Pan It!) - it’s been a while since I had this in a capsule. light, sheer coverage but still able to even out tone and to some extent, reduce appearance of redness. Offers a glow to the skin. Needs to be set.

• Tower 28 Beauty Swipe All-Over Hydrating Serum Concealer with 18-HR Wear # for redness around nose and to cover up some stubborn post-acne dark sports

• MAC Studio Fix Powder Plus Foundation, an OG but still one of the best powders for on the go. This is great for setting concealer and to tone down some of the glow from the CdP on certain parts of my face (lower T-zone mainly). Currently using it with th SEPHORA COLLECTION Essential Brush - 06 Multitasker Face 

• PAT McGRATH LABS Skin Fetish: Glass 001 Legendary Glow Setting Spray 3.38 fl oz/100 mL # - good for hydration and GLOW!!

Eyes

• Cle de Peau Eye Shadow Quad - Baby Universe (this is an older version, discontinued) for a subtle wash of color or a soft smokey eye, with the darkest shade as liner. 

Lips

• Vieve Lip Dew - Original, with either MAKE UP FOR EVER Artist Color Pencil Long-Lasting Lip Liner 606 Wherever Walnut (original, matte finish) (part of my pan it! challenge) (not shown) or Charlotte Tilbury Lip Cheat Long-Lasting Waterproof Lip Liner Love Trap. The MUFE + Vieve combo has been heavy in the rotation during the winter-spring transition.  

• Fenty Beauty by Rihanna Gloss Bomb Stix High-Shine Gloss Stick N-2 Fu$$Y  - the sparkle / glitter in the shimmer finish can be too too much for me for when I just swipe the product across my lips; the fall out too isn't great, but I've recently been trying a pairing and application techniique that has been making it more wearable for me - lightly line and diffuse my lips with Charlotte Tilbury Super Nudes Lip Cheat Contour Duo Lip Liner Tan and then very lightly dab Fenty N-2 Fu$$y on top. The darker shade (liner or sculpt side) of the CT Lip Contour Duo is too brown and dark for me if I line my entire lip with it, but using a light hand and just apply a short line to the middle of my bottom lip and outside corners and near the cupid's bow of my top lip and then diffusing the line with my fingers has worked very well. 

• Facile Lip Jelly Hydrating Glossy Peptide Treatment Rose is one of the frontrunners for my go-to spring/summer pink lip tints

Fits with this vintage mini makeup pouch from Sonia Kashuk are fitting with this week's spring theme. The bright coral (photographs more red than it actually is) makes me think of spring as does the gingham pattern. Can't get the PML to fit in there and close, but everything else dooes just fine, with room for a few more lip products ... if I wanted. 😉😆

Deep-and-brief mini review of Week 13 makeup capsule

Weather had its ups and downs but leaned warmer most days which meant that I kept my makeup pretty minimal, even more so than the week's capsule suggests. The items I consistently reached for were:

• Tower 28 Beauty Swipe All-Over Hydrating Serum Concealer with 18-HR Wear 

• Mac Studio Fix Powder Foundation - this is still one of the best powder foundation to keep in my handbag, for touch ups throughout the day, if needed.

• PAT McGRATH LABS Skin Fetish: Glass 001 Legendary Glow Setting Spray 3.38 fl oz/100 mL 

• Winning combination for the lips this past week was the Charlotte Tilbury Lip Cheat Long-Lasting Waterproof Lip Liner Love Trap with the Vieve Lip Dew - Original. I occasionally experience a teensy bit of fallout with the Vieve but it's rare and the least amount vis-a-vis other similar lip products, includign the Fenty lip stix and the e.l.f. lip reviver oil. 

• Also liking the Facile Lip Jelly Hydrating Glossy Peptide Treatment Rose for an easy peasy, one and done lip. A good one for those on-the-go weekends.

Week 11 - The SEPHORiA (Part I) Travel Makeup Capsule

I had plans for keeping it simple and having options for my Week 11 SEPHORiA and Travel makeup capsule, complete with an opportunity to get in a palette for Balette Royale. Felt pretty good about it too. Then a heat wave made its way over San Francisco and Los Angeles during the spring weekend and I made some adjustments to my capsule. 

This was my capsule at the beginning of Week 11 ...

Week 11 - The SEPHORiA (Part II) Makeup Capsule carries on into 

Week 12 - The "Spring Is In the Air" Makeup Capsule

This was fitting without meaning to be. Week 12's theme is "Spring is in the Air" and spring being in the air (aka allergies) definitely influenced my makeup choices this past week. These beauties are also basically what I wore to SEPHORiA, with the only adjustments being that I switched up my lip shades more frequently while in LA and curled my lashes, at least on the days the SEPHORiA event took place.

Kept the ciele primer, OH mist and Eadem lip balm, along with my skincare in the mini fridge (gratis - thank you @TeamBIC!) that I took with me via checked baggage - yes!!! get to cross that off my beauty bucket list! ☑️ The countertop in the hotel bathroom was too small for the mini fridge but it fit perfectly on one of the nightstands next to the bed which conveniently had an outlet on the wall next to it! 😊🙌 Ngl, one of the highlights of this trip was getting the mini fridge on the flight. ✈️

Fits for this week was the clear purse used for SEPHORiA. Week 10 (March 9 - 15) - The Sleeping Beauties Makeup Capsules and/or The Palettes Makeup Capsule

Today's makeup products lineup (minus the Eadem Lippie, which I forgot to include in the pic) - posting 'em here because I always want to participate in this fun challenge and I always forget, but I realized I could count a few of today's products as Sleeping Beauties!

The 'Sleeping Beauties': rhode Pocket Blush Buildable Hydrating Cream Blush Sprinkle - warm pearly pink  I'm counting this as a Sleeping Beauty because I've had it a while, and I think this is the second time I've actually used it. I like it, both the color and the formula - I would definitely pick up other colors of this cute little blush in the future.

Saie Glowy Super Gel Lightweight Dewy Multipurpose Illuminator Starglow  it's been ages since I used this last - it's very subtle and I'm usually drawn to a more overtly glowy highlight, but the subtleness (subtlety?) was working for me today. I do like how versatile this product is.

Charlotte Tilbury Mini Airbrush Flawless Hydrating & Waterproof Setting Spray 1.1 oz/ 34 ml  honestly only used this because I couldn't find my usual Urban Decay setting spray today lol, but I've had it forever, so it was about time to try it out. First impressions are pretty good, but I'll definitely need to test it out more.

If I have the bandwidth to do my makeup on Sunday (my next day off), I'll try to do a second version of this week's capsule theme that includes one or more makeup palettes. No promises, though 😅

I do like the Rhode blushers, too @caitbird! I need to rotate them into my capsules more. Maybe a "to do"; for summer. Ooouh, Milani. They make some really good products. Is that the primer that's hydrating, brightening and smells like an orange creamsicle? 😍 I have no need for another primer but if it checks all those boxes, I could make an exception. 😂
