Capsule Makeup Collection Challenge 2024

Hello, BIC Beauties! If the idea of makeup capsules piques your curiosity, or you're interested in seeing what's in the beauty collection or weekly makeup bag of your fellow BIC beauties, jump right on in - with questions, comments or a capsule of your own to share.

To add a fun take on putting together a makeup capsule, I've included theme(s) for the weekly capsule - some weeks, I have enough products in my stash (eek!) to make a whole capsule based on the prompt; other weeks, I have just one or two items that fit neatly within theme.

What is a capsule makeup collection?  

A capsule makeup collection is a selection of makeup products that can be used to put together different looks for a variety of occasions. For some of us, that may mean a group of essential products for your everyday look plus a few extra items for a more glam or dramatic look; and, for others of us, that may mean, a lineup of our holy grail product(s) in each makeup category. My ideal capsule makeup collection probably falls somewhere in between - we'll (hopefully) find out at the end of the year! I don't see myself as a minimalist, but I don't have an extensive collection of makeup either. I appreciate the collections of people who fall within both camps but I float somewhere in between - on the one hand, my brow product collection would earn a gold star if we were using a minimalist approach to makeup; my lip product lineup, on the other hand, would not. 🤣 It would most definitely not.  

Why have a capsule makeup collection?  

Everyone will have their own reasons for having (or not having) a more streamlined makeup collection. Over the years, I've just become more interested in having less beauty products on hand (well, except for lip products, lol) - a handful of items I use or reach for more frequently with maybe a few additional products that are go-to's for me for special events or occasions.  Don't get me wrong, I love trying new products and I don't see that changing. I just like the idea of having a simpler collection (I appreciate that "simpler" can be relative), curated to my needs and lifestyle.

Why weekly? 
A few years ago, beauty & lifestyle blogger Serein Wu, did a weekly series (on her blog and YouTube channel), Makeup Bag Monday, where she rotated her makeup bag each week with new product launches and makeup already in her collection. Every Monday, she shared the products she selected for the upcoming week and provided detailed makeup reviews on the makeup she used for the previous week. I may not post detailed reviews, but will at least try to include a weekly recap (probably at the end of the week) of what products I like and which ones didn't work for me.  If weekly works for you, great. If not, feel free to join in based on what works best for you.

What if I don't have enough products to fit the theme for a full face?

No need for your entire makeup capsule to fit the weekly theme(s). Just one will do. And, even if you don't have one that fits squarely within a theme, feel free to post your makeup capsule. We'd love to see what you're using and hear your feedback on the products as you put them to use.

Totally get that @itsfi !! I try to backfill as much as I can but I'll find something where I'm like WELL I HAVE RETINOL BUT I DONT HAVE A RETINOL ALT (literally me like last week) I'm a little nervous about this sephora sale coming up. I literally listed on paper like 22 things I wanted and it's going through a process of elimination.... I'm down to like 6 now which I think is more reasonable and 3 of them are backfills. I did go a little nuts at the ulta sale but I decided that it was nuts and some things I do not need will be going back 😂😂😂😂

Besides being sick forever and constant log-in issues, ( finally on here for first time in forever it feels like, paws crossed it holds! 😃☺️) my good intentions to this fun thread went awry! 😭 I took some pics of my basic capsules but couldn’t follow through on the weekly ones sadly! Oh no, you’ve been sick @Sunnysmom? Are you on the mend now or are your symptoms just lingering? I’m sorry to hear you’ve been under the weather; that’s no fun.

Speaking of weather, did the storm make its way to you this week, or did y’all escape it? I hope the latter because good grief, it was pouring yesterday (Tuesday). A lot. And hard. I went out to lunch and a couple of tables over, one man remarked that this was a legitimate storm SF was having because it was raining like it does in Chicago. 

I wish the VBB priming moisturizer was a little more cool toned; or had a smidge of red undertones to it. It’s a little warmer than I’m used to, but then again, it is named Golden 😝 so that’s too be expected. lol

Jump on in whenever you can. I’ve been making more of an effort to wear makeup more often again and using what I have. The weekly capsules have been helping with that and with decluttering.

Finally back on here after days and days, on and off weeks @itsfi ! Just nuttiness. No rhyme or reason it seems but I’m signed on now I hope for a little before it kicks me off 😭! Ya I’m ok now but it was a WHILE! Ugh. A few lingering symptoms but hoping I’m back in the land of the living! Thank you! The weather did not help at all!!! It was wild times here too! Sooo much rain! Several days worth again and of course I was out in it too! Always the days of appointments right?! Glad you’re ok too! It is green tho! Love that! 

I agree, I wish it was more cool-toned. I think a new shade is needed! Mixing them helps but it would be great to just have a different one. Maybe! I will work on the capsules as I can as I think they’re a wonderful way to help me declutter. When I see the actual overall capsule , it’s umm, interesting. What I can really get it pared down to! Goals! 💞

Finally I can sign on to BIC. @itsfi , I agree that HAUS LABS BY LADY GAGA Le Monster Lip Crayon Vegan Lipstick and Lip Liner Blush Matte is an awesome product. I have it in 3 different colors. Two of the colors are the closest dups that I’ve found for my beloved Nars Audacious Angela & Silvia.

Yaaay, so happy to hear you are able to sign on to BIC @Loretta55! It’s been a challenge for a lot of us, each with different ways of logging on. What worked for you? 

Oh, 3 shades? Let’s see, mauve matte, blush matte, and what’s the third? Forgive me if you’ve shared and it’s slipped my mind. Another question for you - do you use any particular lip primer to prep your lips before using the Haus Labs lip crayons?

@itsfi @Berry Matte is a great dup for Silvia and Fuschia Shimmer is a great dup for Angela. I don’t use any special lip prep before applying but I do keep a tube of my favorite iNNBEAUTY PROJECT Glaze Lip Oil Piña Colada with me at all times especially when my lips get dry. 
I didn’t do anything special to try to sign on to BIC. I was trying to sign on multiple ways but nothing worked until earlier today.

This is an interesting capsule, I feel like everyone here should definitely do this one, it's like a little makeup love letter.

The mix of products in this capsule is as beautifully diverse as the different styles and tastes as we have among us in the BIC. ♥️ Some items I might not have picked up myself or given a second thought or chance to, but for someone mentioning it in a haul or a look of the day, etc. 

💯 on associating certain BIC beauties with certain brands and products. There are certain posts too that people make that just stay with me.

I opted to go with more products for this capsule to see which items went well with others and have different BIC Inspired looks during the week. We shall see how it goes. There may be another “BIC Inspired” theme this year.

@Mellmars1185, I had a hard time paring down the list of products but am looking forward to putting everything to use this week. It’s looking like it might be another week without a declutter - lots of goodies in this batch. 

Yes, yes, yes, put the Sephora shopping bag to use! I use mine for a host of things and thought “why not for a BIC inspired makeup capsule?!” I may end up just keeping all my weekly makeup in the bag on my vanity, and transferring some items into a smaller makeup bag to keep in my purse.

@blackkitty2014, this has been a fun way to work through my stash! I haven’t hit pan on any products that haven’t been part of a pan it! challenge but it’s got me rotating through products more and finding what are ones I love using and which ones I need to let go. 

I know not everyone picks out their makeup for the week in advance, but I tend to reach for the same things for a period of time, usually swapping out lippies (of course!!) the most. With this, other products get some attention. 

We’d love to have you join, if and as you are able or interested.

@idanyd, my skin is on the dry side this time of the year and I was impressed with how the EL performed. I prepped my skin really well before applying and set it, but forgot to reset it during the day (I usually use a mist to refresh my makeup) and it still held up during a 14+ hour day. It started to show small signs of breaking up on my cheeks (the driest parts of my face) but I suspect that might not have been the case if I had used a mist like I usually do.
