Capsule Makeup Collection Challenge 2024

Hello, BIC Beauties! If the idea of makeup capsules piques your curiosity, or you're interested in seeing what's in the beauty collection or weekly makeup bag of your fellow BIC beauties, jump right on in - with questions, comments or a capsule of your own to share.

0 - 8.18 edit capsule post 4.jpg
To add a fun take on putting together a makeup capsule, I've included theme(s) for the weekly capsule - some weeks, I have enough products in my stash (eek!) to make a whole capsule based on the prompt; other weeks, I have just one or two items that fit neatly within theme.

Whether you find yourself in the same place or somewhere in between, jump right on it and share your weekly makeup capsule. Check out the FAQ section below ⤵️ for more info on this challenge.

CURRENT MAKEUP CAPSULE THEME:

Week 52 (December 23 - December 29) - The Holiday Glam Makeup Capsule and/or  The "2024 Makeup Capsule Collection" Makeup Capsule - Some options for us to close out the makeup capsules for 2024 (or to kick start 2025)!

Show us the beauties you use when you want to add glitz and glam (or, that up the glitz and glam element) to your makeup look.

and/or

Curate a bag with your go-to, GOAT, ride-or-die products that would make up your ultimate makeup capsule collection (for 2024). If it's too much to put together a creme de la creme capsule or if you're at your best with options, consider putting together a makeup capsules of one or more favorites you discovered (or re-discovered) in 2024.

FAQs: [Updated 4.28.2024]

What is a capsule makeup collection?

A capsule makeup collection is a selection of makeup products that can be used to put together different looks for a variety of occasions. For some of us, that may mean a group of essential products for your everyday look plus a few extra items for a more glam or dramatic look; and, for others of us, that may mean, a lineup of our holy grail product(s) in each makeup category. My ideal capsule makeup collection probably falls somewhere in between - we'll (hopefully) find out at the end of the year! I don't see myself as a minimalist, but I don't have an extensive collection of makeup either. I appreciate the collections of people who fall within both camps but I float somewhere in between - on the one hand, my brow product collection would earn a gold star if we were using a minimalist approach to makeup; my lip product lineup, on the other hand, would not. 🤣 It would most definitely not.

Why have a capsule makeup collection?

Everyone will have their own reasons for having (or not having) a more streamlined makeup collection. Over the years, I've just become more interested in having less beauty products on hand (well, except for lip products, lol) - a handful of items I use or reach for more frequently with maybe a few additional products that are go-to's for me for special events or occasions.  Don't get me wrong, I love trying new products and I don't see that changing. I just like the idea of having a simpler collection (I appreciate that "simpler" can be relative), curated to my needs and lifestyle.

Why weekly?
A few years ago, beauty & lifestyle blogger Serein Wu, did a weekly series (on her blog and YouTube channel), Makeup Bag Monday, where she rotated her makeup bag each week with new product launches and makeup already in her collection. Every Monday, she shared the products she selected for the upcoming week and provided detailed makeup reviews on the makeup she used for the previous week. I may not post detailed reviews, but will at least try to include a weekly recap (probably at the end of the week) of what products I like and which ones didn't work for me.  If weekly works for you, great. If not, feel free to join in based on what works best for you.

What if I don't have enough products to fit the theme for a full face?

No need for your entire makeup capsule to fit the weekly theme(s). Just one will do. And, even if you don't have one that fits squarely within a theme, feel free to post your makeup capsule. We'd love to see what you're using and hear your feedback on the products as you put them to use.

RECAP - Week 10: The International Woman Owned / Founded Beauty Brand Makeup Capsule

ADJUSTMENTS TO CAPSULE:

There were a couple of add-ons brought into the fold mid-week - one a new-to-me product and the other, a beauty from the first week’s capsule.

  • I was looking for a quicker base application and reached for the LAWLESS Conseal The Deal Long-Wear Full-Coverage Foundation around the middle of the week. It says it’s full coverage but I feel like it’s more medium-to-(softly) full coverage. It’s lighter than Estee Lauder Double Wear. I’m sensing a future capsule where these two full coverage bases duel it out.

  • I also brought back the Gisou Honey Infused Hydrating Lip Oil Golden Shimmer Glow. It's similar in consistency and wear to the original Gisou Honey Infused Hydrating Lip Oil, this one includes shimmer on the lip oil, which when paired with the Dominique Cosmetics lip liner? Absolutely beautiful and my favorite lip combo of the month … so far.😉

TOP SHELF:

STANDOUTS:

  • The pairing of the Dominique Cosmetics lip liner & the Gisou lip oil is 😘 - I was not expecting that at all, but I looooove it! 💖 I was planning on testing some new lip products this week but I dunno now, I'm really enjoying this pairing.

  • Besame Ella Fitzgerald Eyeshadow Quad (limited edition) has been a real treat. The shadows apply beautifully and wear well. I've been alternating this with or pairing it with a couple of shadows from the Natasha Denona Biba Eyeshadow Palette that I've been working through as part of the Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

UNDECIDED:

It kills me to have to be undecided about Cheekbone Beauty Sustain Lipstick Ashkin. It’s highly pigmented which is a plus. The color is too bold and bright for my comfort level straight from the tube, but I do like it as a stain. I’ll play with this one a little more and see if I can find a pairing that will make this more palatable for me.

DECLUTTERED

Another week without a declutter, which is fine. There are a few things I've gone back and forth with in my head though, but I've had a harder time letting things go the last couple of weeks. We'll see if I can get back to being a little more firm on a couple of products where in my head, I know that it's really just a matter of when, not if, they'll be moved out of my stash.

  • Month to date declutter count = zero.

PREVIEW - Week 11:

Spoiler
Looking forward to seeing what everyone puts together for the upcoming week's capsule theme - "One Brand" or "All The Brands". I had a hard time choosing a brand that I could use for a full face (there were more than I expected 😲, and it's not like I expected only a couple either 😅), so I went with what I thought would be the most strategic approach - I jotted the names of the eligible brands on a piece of paper, folded and placed the pieces of paper in an empty candle jar and picked one. And voila, my makeup capsule for the coming week will be from ...

Re: Capsule Makeup Collection Challenge

A very thorough recap of your capsule @itsfi thank you for that. 🙏

I'm thrilled to hear you found a combo you love with your liner and gloss. 😃 They sound lovely togeather.

No declutters, but a few in mind for the future? That's some progress thou. Not now but maybe in the future you'll have some clear thoughts on what has to move on.

Re: Capsule Makeup Collection Challenge

Yeah @CynthieLu, I've been fickle about my decluttering - some weeks, I feel pretty clear and can make a quick decision to let something go. Other weeks, I start having an internal discussion with myself about why I should or should not keep a product. 🙄 Trying to find that happy medium when an item isn't bad, but it's more than "just okay". I'm going to have to noodle on a better approach for how to deal with items that fall in that camp.

Re: Capsule Makeup Collection Challenge

Wrapping up February, here are some of my most used products.

20240308_205630.jpg

  • I realized a couple of days ago that the SPF moisturizer I have been using has been really affecting the wear of my foundation so I can't give a definite thought on the cushions since I think their performance might have been a little compromised. I was wondering why the Kulfi and PMG concealers weren't performing like I thought they used to and that was the culprit. They're all staying in the "to use" pile for now.
  • The TF is the contour duo in Intensity 1 and it's just ok. It's a little warmer than I prefer. The Bare Minerals liquid bronzer is a better shade for me. I'm sad they discontinued this (mine is pretty old but hasn't turned, thankfully). It's staying in the pile to give it more love. I might declutter the TF or put it in my purgatory box .The CT Hollywood Flawless Filter is still a love and I'm happy to have it in my collection.
  • The Rom&nd brow cara is good but once again, I picked up the wrong shade. The Milani is not great, it doesn't hold my eyebrows up. Both of these are probably getting decluttered. The Roen pencil is probably my favorite ever. I'd probably even purchase it full price.
  • I wasn't a huge fan of the Hourglass mascara at first, but it has since grown on me. It flakes sometimes so it's not a love but I'm for sure using it up.
  • All the powder bronzers (CT, VB, ELxVB) are all amazing. Happy to still have these in my collection.'
  • I pretty much used up the Gerard Cosmetics primer and now it's kind of dry so it's probably getting decluttered.
  • Not pictured- Saie Dew Blush Liquid Cream Blush I have a set of 3 minis. I used these a decent amount this month but honestly I don't get the hype. They might be a casualty of my spf as well so I'll try them some more but so far, meh.
  • The other products (CT magic wands, RB eye brightener, Huda concealer, and MAC powder) are all going in the pile for the month. They've been in a purgatory box for a long time but I can't seem to get rid of them.

Re: Capsule Makeup Collection Challenge

@makeitup305 It looks like you got through a lot of items in Feb! I have also started noticing the flaking with the Hourglass mascara. I am not sure howling after I apply it that it starts to flake but when I get home from work I really can see it.

Re: Capsule Makeup Collection Challenge

@makeitup305 There are so many great items in you stash!

Sorry too hear you current SPF is wreaking havoc on your makeup routine. Did you recently switch to a new one?

(I have a the same Mac Powder and Huda Concealer I'm working on finishing too 😅)

Re: Capsule Makeup Collection Challenge

@CynthieLu I’ve been using it for a while (probably since December) but I guess I just hadn’t noticed how it affected the wear time until recently, and was attributing it to the cushion foundations since they are kind of new. The products apply fine and look nice but I’ve noticed that after a few hours the makeup looks broken up in certain areas of my face and my concealer has been creasing more. I’m going to try and see if setting it helps, since I normally don’t do that, but I might just pass it on or wear it sparingly on no-makeup days.

Re: Capsule Makeup Collection Challenge

@makeitup305, excuse my gawking! I'm just mesmerized by all your beauties here 😍. That Victoria Beckham x Estee Lauder collab was one of the best collab collections ever. Ever!! Making a note to try the Rom&nd brow.

Re: Capsule Makeup Collection Challenge

@itsfi That VB collection still lives in my head and in my drawer. I probably shouldn’t wear them anymore because it’s been so long but I can’t bear to part with them.

Re: Capsule Makeup Collection Challenge

@makeitup305, I'm all for decluttering when and as you can, but that collection!! You've got to hold onto it! 😍

Re: Capsule Makeup Collection Challenge

Re: Capsule Makeup Collection Challenge

You've made some gorgeous looks with this capsule @Mellmars1185 I wish I had these eyeshadow palettes in my collection 😉 you make them look so good!

Re: Capsule Makeup Collection Challenge

@CynthieLu Aww thank you so much. I am sure you can recreate a similar look with your palettes. I used the neutrals shades first in the crease and above the brow bone. Then I went in with the CT Matte shades in the crease and outter corner and popped the shimmers on the center of my eyelid and inner corner 😊

Re: Capsule Makeup Collection Challenge

I think I could 😉 @Mellmars1185 I know I've already said it but love the way you've been doing your eyeshadow. (I am trying to watch more videos to improve my techniques, I even started following that lady you mentioned on IG too.)

Re: Capsule Makeup Collection Challenge

Hope you are having a fabulous weekend @Mellmars1185! Your capsules are always so well edited and this one seems like it will be great for a weekend out. 😍

Re: Capsule Makeup Collection Challenge

@itsfi Thank you very much! It made for a lovely look for a night out ☺️💄

Re: Capsule Makeup Collection Challenge

That concealer is one of my favorites @Mellmars1185. Nice curation!

Re: Capsule Makeup Collection Challenge

@makeitup305 Thank you! I have been using it a lot and I like the coverage it gives. I find a little goes a long way. I like to wait fornit to self set a little before blending. What techniques do you use with the T28 concealer?

Re: Capsule Makeup Collection Challenge

@Mellmars1185 I do something similar. I usually blend out with a brush and don't set it (I rarely set my concealer, though). I just tap out the creases with my finger during the day if needed. I've tried dozens of concealers and this one honestly stands out.

Re: Capsule Makeup Collection Challenge

@Mellmars1185, oooh good stuff.  Been loving that CT palette recently, too

Also, pick as many lippies as you want!  More fun that way, and they're usually small, ergo, capsule friendly!

Re: Capsule Makeup Collection Challenge

@Mellmars1185 100% agree wtih @danielledanielle on having multiple lippies - always good to have options in that category, I say! 😉
