Hello, BIC Beauties! If the idea of makeup capsules piques your curiosity, or you're interested in seeing what's in the beauty collection or weekly makeup bag of your fellow BIC beauties, jump right on in - with questions, comments or a capsule of your own to share.

To add a fun take on putting together a makeup capsule, I've included theme(s) for the weekly capsule - some weeks, I have enough products in my stash (eek!) to make a whole capsule based on the prompt; other weeks, I have just one or two items that fit neatly within theme.

What is a capsule makeup collection?  

A capsule makeup collection is a selection of makeup products that can be used to put together different looks for a variety of occasions. For some of us, that may mean a group of essential products for your everyday look plus a few extra items for a more glam or dramatic look; and, for others of us, that may mean, a lineup of our holy grail product(s) in each makeup category. My ideal capsule makeup collection probably falls somewhere in between - we'll (hopefully) find out at the end of the year! I don't see myself as a minimalist, but I don't have an extensive collection of makeup either. I appreciate the collections of people who fall within both camps but I float somewhere in between - on the one hand, my brow product collection would earn a gold star if we were using a minimalist approach to makeup; my lip product lineup, on the other hand, would not. 🤣 It would most definitely not.  

Why have a capsule makeup collection?  

Everyone will have their own reasons for having (or not having) a more streamlined makeup collection. Over the years, I've just become more interested in having less beauty products on hand (well, except for lip products, lol) - a handful of items I use or reach for more frequently with maybe a few additional products that are go-to's for me for special events or occasions.  Don't get me wrong, I love trying new products and I don't see that changing. I just like the idea of having a simpler collection (I appreciate that "simpler" can be relative), curated to my needs and lifestyle.

Why weekly? 
A few years ago, beauty & lifestyle blogger Serein Wu, did a weekly series (on her blog and YouTube channel), Makeup Bag Monday, where she rotated her makeup bag each week with new product launches and makeup already in her collection. Every Monday, she shared the products she selected for the upcoming week and provided detailed makeup reviews on the makeup she used for the previous week. I may not post detailed reviews, but will at least try to include a weekly recap (probably at the end of the week) of what products I like and which ones didn't work for me.  If weekly works for you, great. If not, feel free to join in based on what works best for you.

What if I don't have enough products to fit the theme for a full face?

No need for your entire makeup capsule to fit the weekly theme(s). Just one will do. And, even if you don't have one that fits squarely within a theme, feel free to post your makeup capsule. We'd love to see what you're using and hear your feedback on the products as you put them to use.

Hahaha, isn't that always the way, @CynthieLu? I don't know if it's on the Canadian site, but that oil is available as promo gwp - $40 minimum spend.

I know I have probably half a dozen foils of the serum and, unless I included them in my recent donation bag, I *think* I have a couple foils of the oils as well. That is such a beautiful line. ho

Noooo its not on our side but I do grab it in foil/GWP whenever I see it pop up. I just haven't brought myself to purchase a full bottle again. It is such a lovely line. I've had a couple of the moisturizer's etc. in foil form, they are very enjoyable.

Thank you so much for sharing that @itsfi 🙏 A little GWP like that can last longer than you think.😉 I'm going to keep my eyes peeled thou. Sometimes after you guys get a GWP it ends up here sooner or later.

I love the combos you mentioned, and @faeriegirl had mentioned that Mario mixes a lot of things.  We kind of wondered if this is to sell more products, but it's also kind of cool to have bespoke combos.

I also need to get my hands on that Rare Beauty by Selena Gomez Mini Blush and Luminize Trio for that peachy pink highlighter.  That would be excellent for bronzlighting!

I'm totally doing bronzlight more often @danielledanielle - I imagine it's the same amount of time and effort, but it seems so much more efficient for me. 😆 

Awwww, that mini RB trio looks amazing! 😍 Yeah, it could be - mixing products as a vehicle for selling more products. At the same time, I feel like it's something makeup artists do instinctively. I have plenty of products to mix with one another as it is 🙄 and I'll have even more after picking up the things I will pick up with the upcoming holiday sales 😜 My goal is to not completely undo what I've done on my low/no buy this year. But we shall see, it's historically been the fall/winter and holiday releases that make up the largest portion of my annual beauty spend. Ruh-roh.

My base is pop star inspired 🌠

DIOR Forever Glow Star Filter Multi-Use Complexion Enhancing Booster (was endorsed by Jisoo of BlackPink possibly?) but either way it makes me feel like a star wearing it. It's super luxe and also beautiful to wear, it feels incredible on my skin. 👌

Another luxe classic is the Hourglass Holiday Palette's. This one is from a few years back. Including it will hopefully encourage me to use it a little bit more. 🙈

Love your tie-ins to the capsule theme @CynthieLu - very creative and fun! The Riri lip shades are so hard for me to resist. That lip liner and gloss duo is spectacular! 😍 Curious to know, have you tried the Fenty Beauty by Rihanna Fenty Icon Velvet Liquid Lipstick Riri? If so, how was / is it for you?

I'd forgotten about the Haus Labs eyeshadow palettes until your post. Love that you are able to bring them out of hibernation, at least for a little bit - how do you like them? Do you see yourself reaching for them more often going forward? I feel like her original Haus Laboratories and her current Haus Labs collections dabbled briefly with powder eyeshadows but that she's gravitated towards cream or cream-to-powder formulations for eyeshadows. I say this but watch, her next release will be powder eyeshadow palettes. ha!

Thank you! @itsfi RiRi in the liner and luminizer are both gorgeous reds. The sparkly oil reminds me of Dorothy's ruby red slippers. 🏡  👠 When it comes to her lip products, I absolutely love Fenty's lip stain's and luminizers but I've never tried her other lipsticks etc.. 

Have you tried them? What are they like for you? Now i'm curious. 😉

I love the idea of Fenty Beauty by Rihanna Fenty Icon Velvet Liquid Lipstick , but it's smearfest.  I've tried a few times to tame it, because Fenty Beauty by Rihanna Stunna Lip Paint Longwear Fluid Lip Color can behave the same way but I've managed to lock it down a few times.  The liquid icon....it's difficult.  It has such a nice smooth, mousse consistency and the colors are opaque, like as they appear in the tube, but it. does. not. set.  I asked an influencer directly once what she did, and it involved a lot of blotting, which is basically reducing the pigment and at that point it's like... Why, it's not the same product??  Why do I keep buying it ( I'm 4 shades in)??? It's sooooo pretty.  So velvety.  I hate that I love it.

Okay, "smearfest" does it for me. Thank you @danielledanielle. I love the Riri shade but the fact that it's a matte formula and knowing it smears makes it easier to pass on. One thing to remove from the list.  @CynthieLu

Thank you! I can't believe you remember that 😃 Aaah the Haus Eyeshadow palette's were on clearance so I scooped them up buuut I struggled with them. I felt like the shades had very little pigment and we're not easy to work with. @Mellmars1185 I'm going to give them some more tries and attention and see if I can make these work. 

It's a talc free formula and I don't know if that plays a part but I think this launch didn't do as well as the brand would have hoped.

Well @Mellmars1185 I gotta say I tried the eyeshadow library's today and it went a lot better than I would have thought, especially with how I remember these behaving.  More testing required but it was such as good start. I'm going to keep on using these this week, I'm curious to see how they do. 😀

Apologies for the delays with my regularly scheduled capsule postings. Heat advisories and a self-imposed "time out" means I'm a little slow getting back to the swing of things post-SEPHORiA. I ended up scrapping my original plan for this week's capsule because it would have been too warm for all that makeup, though I may get the band of products back together again later in the year - perhaps for a 'take 2' or 'throwback' theme. 😉 I pivoted and put this capsule together as a Plan B! ⬆️ Product detail in spoiler; name of musician founder / owner in parens if it's not already in the brand name.

Base:	Mix of about-face The Performer Skin-Focused Foundation (Halsey) + Drunk Elephant D-Bronzi™ Bronzing Drops with Peptides (not a musician founded or owned brand that I'm aware of, but Drunk Elephant sounds like a good name for a band). Shout out to @missjeanie for intro'ing me to the foundation.
Blush:	Mix a drop of the Fenty moisturizer and Rare Beauty by Selena Gomez Soft Pinch Tinted Lip Oil Stain Delight for a wash of color on the cheeks
Brontour:	Victoria Beckham Beauty Matte Bronzing Brick - Shade 2
Primer (Eyes):	about-face Shadow Fix Eye Primer
Shadow:	Using the lighter shade from the VBB Bronzing Brick for a wash of color, then if I'm feeling adventurous or experimental (for science!!), I'll apply and blend GXVE BY GWEN STEFANI Line It Up Clean 24-Hr Gel Pencil Waterproof Eyeliner Bathwater (gratis) and both shades from the VBB Bronzing Brick in the outer V
Lashes:	Curl lashes with Tower 28 lash curler (not shown)
Eyeliner (lower waterline):	Makeup by Mario Master Mattes Brightening Pencil - Light I
Eyeliner (upper lash line):	For a pop of colour, GXVE Bathwater - on the outer half of my lash line - applied lightly and then I go over it with an angled brush that I  mist with ONE/SIZE by Patrick Starrr Mini On 'Til Dawn Mattifying Waterproof Setting Spray (not pictured) before going over the liner - it's hard, if not impossible, for non-liquid liners to last on my eyes and this has been something I've been trying out lately with some moderate success Otherwise, HAUS LABS BY LADY GAGA Clear Cut Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner Black Onyx because this stuff does not budge
Lips:	Rotate between Rare Beauty Lip Oil - Delight (I love the stain it leaves) and Keys Soulcare Comforting Tinted Lip Balm - Devotion - ummmm, I actually purchased this for this week's capsule (doh!!) after @danielledanielle mentioned they have lippies - in their early days, they had a lip balm in a pot and I really wanted it, but waited too long to pick one up - I hit pause on shopping my lippie stash just long enough to purchase this one. Ha! 🙊
Setting Spray:	ONE/SZE by Patrick Starrr (not pictured): Not musician founded / owned, but this is going to work beautifully during this warm spell - which is lasting far longer and is far warmer than anything I've been used to since moving to the city. Do I need the ONE/SIZE by Patrick Starrr Jumbo On 'Til Dawn Mattifying Waterproof Setting Spray??!! That's a lot of product but it is really good.

A mid-week change in the lineup for the Week 40 makeup capsule - Plan C - a more minimalist look - the excessive heat warnings have been no joke and I've just wanted something quick and easy. It's 10-15 degrees cooler outside than in my home so I try to get outside for a refresher often. This is also the mix of beauties I wore for dinner last night.

I'm experimenting with my makeup over the weekend and going to try my hand at Boyfriend Blush today and tomorrow a la Cheek Challenge Fall 2024: Fall Flushing Forward.

Doubling up on posts here, with a recap of my September capsule declutters:

The Ere Perez mascara will count towards my empties and not declutters; it seems more appropos there.

I ended up passing along the declutters from my Week 36 capsule shortly after the week ended (I normally toss or hand off my declutters at the end of the month but those took place earlier) so those 3 items (2 Real Technique brushes and the IT Cosmetics CC Cream) were not around for the photo shoot 😅. I also added the two Maybelline Super Stay Powders - new, unopen. I would be a mix of the two shades but after doing some inventory of my powders / setting products, I really have plenty to work through as it is, so these will be donated to a not-for-profit.

Same with the Aether (Athr) Beauty Quad Eyeshadow Palette - Ametrine - the company went through a rebranding (Aether to Ahtr - or maybe it was the other way around?) and then shortly thereafter made the deciion to close up its business. 😔 I do like the color story with this quad but currently have a couple - aaaack! a few quads in the same or similar color family (Besame, Chanel, YSL and I wouldn't doubt if I had one or two others, le sigh) - that I see myself reaching for with more frequency. I'd like to see this one get some good use and some love.
