Lips on Lock 🔐: List Your Lip Combos 💄👄

There's a post every other day about the best lip combo (keep them coming!) I've gotten to love lip contouring/ombre lips more than I thought I would, and I of course, need to justify a use for some of these lip liners/glosses/lipsticks etc...😶💄🤫

I also can't remember half of them, so if this a thread where I'm replying to myself 🤷🏽‍♀️, at least I'll have a list

@danielledanielle - This may not be what you're looking for...but I'm posting anyway! 😆

I always start my lip look with LAWLESS Forget the Filler Lip-Plumping Line-Smoothing Tinted Lip Balm Pink Marshmallow.  It doesn't plump or tint my lips; it just puts down a nice light layer of balm to keep my lips from drying out.

I always use CLEAR lip liner so I don't have to worry if my lip liner matches my lipstick or changes the color of my lipstick.  I usually use Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Waterproof Lip Liner Ozone or Urban Decay Ultimate Ozone Multipurpose Primer Pencil 0.10 oz/ 3 g 

Finally, I use a single color of lipstick.  My makeup coordinates with my clothes for that day, so my lipstick will do the same.  I don't use multiple lip products to create a look because I don't want to keep up a high-maintenance lip look as it wears away throughout my work day.  A simple touch up is more my speed! 💋💄

As for color, I've been leaning more towards  MLBB look for the last couple of months.

Gucci Long Lasting Satin Lipstick 219 - Mary Mauve.  This is my lip color.

Charlotte Tilbury Matte Revolution Hydrating Lipstick M.I.KISS. This is MLBB.

On the contrary @Titian06 , if I have a ten step routine (which I don't, but I'm sure I'm close 🤦🏽‍♀️😂) I need someone to not have a ten step.  A good standby is a locked in combo and I bet there's someone browsing who is like..."I do this, too"

I did a high maintenance look yesterday.  Loved it.  Didn't take a pic and it was goooooone in a hour.  😂🤣

A more recently discovered lip combo that I've been enjoying ~

This lip look was inspired by a conversation with @PrettyPaint on the Monthly Favorites: July 2025 Edition!  thread about products similar to the ever out-of-stock HB Soft Nude - watch, it will come back online now that I've thrown that out there! 😅

My lips are often some version of MLBB ("my lips but better")** but I've ventured out of my comfort zone a bit more in the last few years. Some pinks, a few berries, the very occasional red here and there, and lately, nude shades of varying depth and undertone. After swatching the three shades, I got to wondering what a lip combo with all three might look like. One way to find out. 

ABOUT MY LIPS & SKIN TONE:

* Natural lip color has a little more pigment 

* Skin tone: Light in winter / light-to-medium in summer; neutral to neutral-olive undertones

* Lips lean on the dry side and have gotten thinner as I've aged

* Double lip on both lips, slightly more prominent on lower lip

PRODUCTS USED:

• Rom&ND Lip Mate Pencil - 05 Taupey Shade 
• Fluffy eyeshadow brush - this one is from a Real Techniques set (gratis) but the SEPHORA COLLECTION PRO Crease Brush #24 or Mac 217 would work nicely as well
• Huda Beauty Lip Contour Stain - Soft Nude 
• SEPHORA COLLECTION Colorful 8HR Longwear Transferproof Lip Liner 06 Rosewood Mood 
• SEPHORA COLLECTION Colorful 8HR Longwear Transferproof Lip Liner 11 Cinnamon Brown 
• LAWLESS Forget The Filler Lip Plumper Line Smoothing Gloss Nudie (from the Sephora Favorites It's Giving Lip Value Set)

I left a more detailed step-by-step in the spoiler. Application of the lip products is faster than the actual read. 😉

1. Prep & prime lips with a lip exfoliator followed by a lip balm (alternatively, use a lip primer).  This is ideally done during my skincare routine, with the exfoliator before cleansing my face and lip balm immediately after. This gives enough time for the balm to fully absorb. That's ideally the plan.

2. Use Rom&ND 05 Taupey Shade to line, following the Vermillion Border of my lips. This shade when I use a light hand and make just one pass around my lips with it blends in pretty well with my skin tone. 

3. Still, I use a fluffy eyeshadow blending brush to softly blend out the line. 

4. Line natural lip line with HB Soft Nude and diffuse color with pad of ring finger, filling in my lips with the HB shade. Because the HB dries down fairly quickly, I work in sections - top right then top left, then bottom left then bottom right, if I have time. If not, then the upper lip, followed by the bottom. I might repeat if I want a deeper color/stain.

5. Line natural lip line with SC 06 (Rosewood Mauve) and softly diffusing color with pad of ring finger, bringing it down to fill in my lips - not entirely, there may be some portions that have a softer wash of color.

6. Softly fill in the middle of the bottom lip with SC 11, diffuse the color along the entire bottom lip. Press top & bottom lips together to transfer some of the SC 11 color from the bottom lip to the top. Pat/press to fill in lips.

7. Use Rom&ND 05 Taupey Shade for more detail work - lightly line the outer edges/outside corners of lips, the middle of the bottom lip, and carve out Cupid's Bow.

8. Lightly dab Lawless Nudie gloss along bottom lip and press top & bottom lips together to distribute gloss. Pat/press to fill in any gaps.

@CookieGirl1, it has been out of stock for quite some time. I lucked out and found it in one of the stores near me; had I known it would be OOS for this long, I would have grabbed the other one in the Soft Nude shade as well. Hopefully they'll restock soon. 🤞

@itsfi I saw that it's on TikTok shop but I'm petty and don't want to pay the shipping cost 😂.  At this rate, though, I may hold out until the new NYX lip stain liners hit stores and see if those are even somewhat comparable in terms of performance since the line appears to have some similar nude shades.

@Sunnysmom, rom&nd has some great products. I was fortunate that some local stores carried a couple of their products, right after covid. Now they're sold at Ulta, Nordstrom, and I imagine they'll be in Olive Young's Los Angeles store when it opens next year.
