Hi BIC!
A lot of us have talked about our huge lipstick collections, and with the passing of another National Lipstick Day, I took stock of mine. I have about 200 lipsticks and glosses and realized, I only wear about 20 of them! So I'm challenging myself (and whoever else wants to join) to use more of them. I'm going to try to wear a different lipstick every day for the next 100 days.
@eshoe Yeah, I think Blue Beat’s going to be the winner. 🙂 And huh, I didn’t know the eyeshadow down the cheek technique had a name... now I need to know what it’s called.
About lip primer: it kinda depends on what you want the primer to do. I use primer a few different ways.
Line filler/smoother: I don’t care about my lip lines showing through lipstick, unless the color cracks a lot when I smile. Some primers can prevent or delay that. I know I need a primer under Visionary because it cracks without one.
Moisture sealer: I always wear lip balm under lipstick—well, unless I’m wearing lipstick that’s very emollient on its own, like a Guerlain or or Lipstick Queen bullet. If it’s a liquid matte lipstick, I also always wear primer to add more moisture and help seal it on my lips. I never wear any liquid matte without balm and primer. Gotta keep my lips from drying out. 🙂
Barrier against bleeding/feathering: Sometimes I wear primer only on the outer edges of my lips, or I’ll just wear it on the outside of my lips. I do that with lipsticks I know will bleed like crazy without some kind of barrier. Lipliner helps, but I like to double down with a primer barrier.
Glue: Some lip primers are tacky/grippy enough to hold problematic lipstick in place on my lips. Unfortunately, those primers are usually also not super comfy themselves. I might use them only on the inside of my lips. This doesn’t work with all lipsticks, unfortunately—and it can make problematic mattes feel even worse on my lips.
Most of my cream and satin bullets don’t need any of those primer benefits. Glosses only need a primer barrier if they bleed without one. There’s really nothing wrong with using a primer under everything if you want, though.
I just took a screenshot of everything you wrote, @WinglessOne-because your info is gold. Thank you for taking the trouble to type that all out. The Mac is the only primer I’ve tried though the Bite was highly recommended when I asked about them a few months ago. If there are any other you’d recommend I will take your word!
No problem, @eshoe. The MAC Prep + Prime Lip is still my gold standard. I’ve yet to find a primer that works better for me, but I also haven’t tried every lip primer yet. I still haven’t tried Too Faced’s lip primer for some reason. The Bite primer doesn’t do much to stop bleeding, but it does provide more moisture. I think I tried the ABH lip primer but don’t remember how well it did (or didn’t).
The only lip primer I absolutely hate is Urban Decay 24/7 Ozone pencil. Not only did it not work well as a primer on me, it’s also so soft that it smushes/breaks off if you press even lightly against your lips, and sharpening the pencil is a frustrating experience. Some folks like that one, but not me.
Good to know about the UD one, @WinglessOne. Sounds like I have the one best suited for my needs. I don’t wear matte lip colors at all, I can’t stand how drying they feel, so it’s not like my lips need a ton of extra moisture. Thank you again😊
Very pretty, @KrishAtl! I haven't tried LiveGlam lipsticks.
Thank you @curlychiquita. I only started subscribing to LiveGlam lipsticks a couple
months ago (June???) and am totally happy with them! The formula is great!
Thank you @lmaster. It’s definitly a favorite!!
I love this Bestie shade on you! It's really great!
Thanks @tsavorite. It’s such a versatile color. Perfect for day or night!
@KrishAtl great colour! I didn't even know this brand.
It’s a subscription box brand out of LA @Krysa13. I started subscribing cause I heard great things about their lipstick formula. I really love it!
This is a great color on you, @KrishAtl. It just fits!
Thanks @eshoe. It’s a great day to night color!
Oh that’s pretty, @KrishAtl! I remember hearing about the LiveGlam lipstick subscription but never tried it. If you’re a subscriber: how do you like the KissMe lipsticks in general? I’m always curious about these kinds of makeup clubs because a membership would make a fun gift for some of my young (teens and 20s) relatives. Are they all liquid mattes, or do they offer glosses or liquid satins too?
i am really loving the LiveGlam KissMe! subscription @WinglessOne. I started it in May as a way to build up my lipstick collection. I am notorious for wearing the exact same shade of lipstick for years!!! I have a serious “comfort zone”that LiveGlam has managed to make me break free from! I also love that after the first month, you are able to see your 3 lipsticks before they ship out and opt to trade either 1 out, or all 3. I usually do trade at least 1 shade out every month to stick with more traditional colors. Also, there is definitely a great mix of mattes, satins, and glosses. Each month revolves around a theme and the colors match the theme beautifully!
Thanks for the info, @KrishAtl! I think I’ll start a subscription for a relative. She’ll like being able to trade some out. Sounds like a great option for folks who want to expand their boundaries. 🙂
I hadn't planned on doing two today at all, but I realized after putting on my first one that I needed to run some errands...which led to a full face...which led to a new lippie 😂
First up, ELF Velvet Matte in Bold Berry. I remember going absolutely gaga for these when I first discovered them, and they are quite comfy (for a matte). I'll have to give it another run at some point where I wear it for more than two hours, but it was starting to crack a bit when I took it off, so I think these will be goners.
Next up, Clinique Chubby Stick Intense in Red Violet. Nice soft balmy texture, bright color. Not the longest lasting thing around, but so easy to wear. I imagine this will be a keeper. Full look info will be in the All or One Challenge thread in a few 😊
They're both really pretty, @RGbrown. I'm glad you like the formula of the Clinique Chubby Stick, it looks great on you!
