100 Days of Lipstick Challenge

Hi BIC!

A lot of us have talked about our huge lipstick collections, and with the passing of another National Lipstick Day, I took stock of mine. I have about 200 lipsticks and glosses and realized, I only wear about 20 of them! So I'm challenging myself (and whoever else wants to join) to use more of them. I'm going to try to wear a different lipstick every day for the next 100 days.

@tastelikewater Here are a bunch of nude lipstick swatches I recently did for another thread. Just ignore all the pinks and pinky browns. 🙂 

Nude lipsticks in pinks and browns. Forgot to include some cool toned shades.

Brown shades: 

9. NYX Suede Matte in Cold Brew (this is a bullet, not a liquid matte—but it definitely has a matte finish, so it might not interest you) 

10. NARS Audacious in Deborah 

11. MAC Liptensity in Double Fudge (MAC makes other nice browns in their Satin and—I think—Amplified bullet lines) 

12. ColourPop Creme Lux in Chocolatier (CP has a few other brown bullet shades, if I recall correctly) 

I still don’t base my makeup looks on seasons, so I can’t say these are my favorites for fall; I’ll happily wear ‘em any time of year. 🙂 But they’re my favorite browns in my collection, excluding the brown Lancôme L’Absolu Lacquer gloss I have. 

If you ever want to add a bit of pop as a counterbalance to a wonderfully murky eye look, you could try a bronze lipstick. My favorite bronzes are glosses (Lancôme L’Absolu Lacquer in Vertige and Kevyn Aucoin Molten Lip Color in Bronze), but there are a few bullet options out there.

@WinglessOne Ooooooooh those are all pretty, thank you! I have two NARS Audacious already, so Deborah might be first on my list. Somehow I've *never* tried a MAC lipstick - the horror! I guess it's time to go play 🙂

Do you find the PMG MatteTrance line to be comfortable, or do you think I should stick to the LuxeTrance? I haven't tried either yet.

@tastelikewater  My MatteTrances are all comfy on me. I do prefer LuxeTrance in terms of comfort, but that’s because I generally like the feel of creams more than mattes. But the MatteTrance formula isn’t drying at all on me. It feels cushy and velvety soft on my lips. I can very comfortably wear a MatteTrance all day. Some folks think MatteTrance is more comfy than LuxeTrance. 

I wish PMG had a mini duo that included a MatteTrance and a LuxeTrance. That’d be a perfect intro of both formulas. There are no LuxeTrance minis, unfortunately, but the MatteTrance mini trios are still available; they’re a good way to try that formula. You could always wander down to the Michigan Ave store and swatch a few LuxeTrance and MatteTrance bullets to get a feel for them. 🙂 

While you’re in that neighborhood, swing by the standalone MAC store or the Ulta down the street to swatch a few MAC bullets. It’s just not right to have lived your whole life without trying a MAC lipstick! 😮 We gotta fix that! I do like NARS Audacious more than the MAC Satin formula, and even more than the MAC Amplified formula (but not more than Liptensity), but still: they’re worth trying. I like the new MAC Love Me bullets but won’t buy any because they’re not strongly pigmented enough for me. They feel super comfy, though.

Both beautiful shades @tastelikewater 🧡, combine them for a third shade.  Darker as your base with the warmer one in the center blended out slightly.  I don’t know how I haven’t done all brown shade swatches but I guess I will have too.  These medium tone browns are a good starting point.  Doesn’t have to be this brand but the second one has more red undertones that probably suit your skin tone best.

Ok, I’m just realizing I wear too may nudes 🤔 I probably need to venture out. Lol. Day 17 (right) - NYX: London. The formula is a bit sticky for a matte and has a slow dry down. Not my favorite but I’m almost done with this tube Day 18 (left)- NARS: Rosecliff. I love NARS’ cream formula. It stays on pretty long and feels nourishing. What’s your favorite cream formula?

Asking me for my favorite cream formula is kinda like asking me to pick a favorite child. I’ll try to keep this list brief: 

• MAC Liptensity (still can’t believe MAC discontinued these!) 
• Pat McGrath LuxeTrance 
• Pat McGrath Lip Fetish Balm 
• Black Up cream bullets 
• Origins Blooming Bold 
• NARS Audacious 
• Guerlain Rouge G 
• Lipstick Queen—several of their bullet formulas and their fantastic (and sadly discontinued) Cupid’s Bow non-drying creamy velvet finish crayons, which are much better than NARS Velvet Matte crayons 
• ColourPop Creme Lux (their Matte Lux formula’s also comfy) 
• MAC Amplified 
• Bite Amuse Bouche—with the big caveat that they bleed/feather a lot on me, so I have to use a lip primer or liner with them 

Well, so much for “brief.” 😂 There are just so many great cream lipsticks out there!

Beautiful nude @thatjedininja 🧡 I’m sporting one today too lol.  I love the Bite Amuse Bouche liquid lipsticks and the Huda Demi-mattes for comfort.  Dose of Colors shade Cork is another.  I like the NYX suede lipsticks in bullet form for comfort too.

Today I tried a new liquid lipstick called Pure Hollywood from ABH.  I used some NYX butter gloss because I find the formula a bit on the dry side, yet I bought it anyway because I loved the shade.  Glad I bought it.  With the butter gloss it was fine all day long, lasted well into the evening and wasn’t dry.  Now I wish I bought the second nude called Stripped.
