Do you have a box full of perfume vials and/or a vanity covered in perfume bottles? Are you the Goldilocks of perfume, just looking for the perfect signature scent? Do you want an opportunity to post daily about how your perfume of the day smells oaky and smoky with hints of blackberry and currant, like a cigar in a whisky barrel rolling through a Mediterranean orchard on a breezy summer morning?
If you answered yes to any of the above, or you just want to hop on board for the ride, join us for a 31 days of perfume challenge starting January 1st! Some of us from the 25 days of lipstick challenge wanted to continue the fun and exploration, and since many of us have so many perfume samples, we thought this challenge would be perfect. If you don't have 31 perfumes or hate everything that doesn't smell like Meyer lemons and fresh goat cream, that's fine--we're just aiming to use the neglected perfumes we have laying around and incorporate them into our perfume rotations.
And if you want more perfume vials, there's no better time than now to take a peek at Sephora's samples section.
Edit: Anyone can join in at anytime! We're here to support, live vicariously through, and encourage everyone in their olfactory adventures!
@makeitup305 That definitely makes sense, I have some perfumes that I genuinely enjoy but would prefer on a man. Thanks for the great review of this brand I've been eyeing 🙂
On Christmas Day (and the following few days after) I re-tried the original Marc Jacobs Fragrances Daisy Eau de Toilette I used to own this perfume but when I ran out of a second (or maybe third) small bottle I stopped repurchasing it some time ago. While going through all my samples and minis I realized I had a lot of these laying around and I forgot why I stopped buying this perfume in the bottle size (but I knew there had to be a reason because I am a certified fragrance freak). I brought this cute little mini I had laying around on my trip and really went in on trying to figure out the mystery of the missing Marc Jacobs Daisy classic scent purchases.
My Thoughts After Wearing It For a Few Days: I genuinely like this perfume and can definitely see why I used to purchase it in a full-sized bottle. Although, I must say the scent is a bit outdated (to me) not in the sense that it is mature-but, in the sense that it was so popular for so long that it's definitely not a fragrance that draws massive attention by being particularly unique, fresh, exciting or new. That being said, I enjoyed it and how it mixed with my chemistry. The notes I initially pick up are floral, a bit of alcohol and citrus when I apply this to my skin. After it settles in and mixes with my skin chemistry it carries over a beautiful violet scent. Bingo, this is why I purchased a bottle many times in the past-that lovely violet note. The first day when I initially landed back on the violet note I thought: maybe I should repurchase a little bottle of this. But shortly after I unfortunately got reminded why I stopped buying this despite genuinely liking it-this scent does not last (at least not on me). Not even half-way through Christmas I found myself reapplying because I could not smell it at all. This time I also reapplied a healthy amount of my wrists in order to be able to further test the staying power. A few hours later, nothing. Not off my clothes, not on the wrists. It somehow disappears. Most scents even the short-lasting ones sort of "fade-out" where you can faintly still smell them but you're simply disappointed in the intense drop of power within the perfume. Daisy just disappears into thing air after ~4 hours, not a trace of her left. Bingo again, this is why I stopped purchasing this bottle. Despite liking the scent, this simply just does not last and it's not a unique enough scent to justify to myself buying amongst all the perfume I already own (and still have in my wish list). I will continue using my minis when I really crave this lovely violet scent but I'll be making sure to pack the mini with me while I'm on the go so that I can re-apply (because I know I'll have to). 😁
@Margalee I have yet to try the Daisy Love but I really want to 🙂 Maybe I have but forgot due to how many "Daisy" perfumes they release under various new names.
@QueenMarceline - Even I would buy the mini just for that cute bottle! 🥰🌷🌼
@Titian06 The mini is super cute! Haha! All the bottles from this line are in my opinion and my dogs name is Daisy so I think it has a special place in my heart. I have no idea where this teeny mini came from but I'm glad I have it for when I want my OG Daisy fix. I really love the Marc Jacobs Fragrances Daisy Dream 1 oz perfume from this line, it's probably my favorite Marc Jacobs fragrance (that wasn't a Limited Edition release) and I'm almost out of it.
On Christmas Eve I used a sample of a fragrance I already know/enjoy, the TOCCA Stella 1.7 oz/ 50 mL Eau de Parfum Spray I've gotten a few free samples of this fragrance and I really love it, enough to want to purchase it. Unfortunately, this sample which is my last is getting dangerously low which means I will need to shell out some bucks for the full size and I unfortunately missed the 20% off fragrance sale because I got distracted during the holidays and somehow thought it expired the 25th instead of the 24th (oops 😁).
My Thoughts: This scent is yummy to me and I consciously chose it for my Christmas Eve party out of all the minis I brought on this trip because it's truly that special to me. Something about this fragrance is invigorating, its cozy-simply put. A lovely blend of: florals, powders, woodsy oak notes and what I could describe as a watery/clean scent. Something about this fragrance brings me great comfort and instantly takes me back to my childhood, I feel like maybe a caretaker or a former teacher I adored used to wear something similar to this. It's not a fully mature scent either, but the best way I can describe it is that it reminds me of the comfort of being wrapped in a mother/motherly figures arms. I also have to commend the staying power of this perfume, this really LASTS. I could still smell it on myself up until I took a shower and I can pick up it's remnant notes on the outfit I wore which has yet to be washed (because I am traveling). The more I talk about it the sadder I am I missed my chance to get this on the fragrance sale.
Update: Used my rouge reward on her 🙂
A few days ago I used my coveted/tried and true Elizabeth & James Nirvana French Grey. I own this in a 3.4 oz bottle but my hands are so tiny that i can barely hold it to take a photo (lol!) so I decided to post this mini rollerball that I have. I absolutely adore this scent to bits and pieces and it was not a “new try” for perfumes. However, I’m currently traveling for the holidays and I packed a bunch of samples (both previously tried and some I have not yet tried) so I figured that before I left the state I would stick to an “oldie but a goodie” and leave the trials for the holiday season.
@QueenMarceline - I love this scent! It's one of the few full sizes that I have. Holding the bottle is so awkward (I have small hands too). I guess perfumers or manufacturers do not test the bottle shapes for functionality among different hand sizes before production; it's the aesthetics that count (form over function). 😄
@Titian06 You are so right, the bottle is beautiful but so hard to operate/hold. The scent is honestly the perfect office scent, run to the store scent, everyday scent. This isn't even my favorite Elizabeth&James fragrance but I reach for it so often due to it's versatility.
Today I tried 19-69 La Habana Eau de Parfum . This is the final scent from the sample set. I'm at a loss on how to describe it, so I'll do my best. It opened with a strong boozy scent, but toned down quickly. After an hour or so, I began to smell something along the lines of vanilla, but not quite, and a little sweeter. It took me some time to figure out it was caramel. It was very subtle and not too sweet. Finally, it settled down into a warm skin scent. I don't know how else to describe it. Again, very subtle, like your skin after taking a warm shower (but without the water or clean scent, just the warm emanating from your skin). This fragrance lasted all day.
Top: Aldehydes, saffron
Middle: Elemi resin, incense
Base: Ambroxan, amber, vanilla absolute, caramel, hydrax, Loatian oud
@Titian06 This sounds like something I would like. I tend to like those “warm skin”scents a lot.
@Titian06 Ah! I've only tried a couple from this line, Chinese Tobacco and something else. The bottles are gorgeous. Interesting Sephora is carrying them now! I'm guessing a larger distributor has bought them?
Today I tried 19-69 Invisible Post Eau de Parfum . This starts with a soft citrus scent, followed briefly by a barely noticeable green scent, and ends with a long-lasting light vanilla and sandalwood combination. Like the other perfumes I've tried, this one lasted virtually all day. I really like this one! It's a good scent to reach for when you aren't sure which fragrance you want to wear.
Top: Fig, petitgrain, tangerine
Middle: Black currant, palm leaf, cyclamen
Base: Sandalwood, cedar, tonka bean
A fig top note is always rare and fun. This brand of perfumes is something I'd definitely like to try out in the future.
@Titian06 Ouhh very unassuming bottle but the scent sounds wonderful!
@Titian06 That is good to hear! This is one I've been eyeing. I just really don't like petitgrain.
@Samtian - I can understand! For me, there are certain notes that I absolutely dislike. No matter how much or little is used, it sticks out like a sore thumb. 😄 If you are interested in this one, stop by Sephora and take it for a test drive before committing.
@Titian06 I wish I could! I only have a little SiJCP near me and they don't carry very many perfumes.
Ellis Brooklyn APRÈS Eau de Parfum 1.7 oz/ 50 mL Eau de Parfum Spray Ellis Brooklyn APRÈS Eau de Parfum Travel Spray 0.33 oz/ 10 mL
On the brand's direct site, Ellis Brooklyn Apres is described as" a celebration of the wintry outdoors." Phrases like that, along with "the freedom of the mountains, the rush of alpine air, the bracing freshness of evergreens, and the richness of bourbon, praline and vanilla" are what drew me in, along with the pretty pine green glass bottle (that looks dark matte almost black in the photo).
