Since the brand is coming to Sephora. I thought I'd start a thread just for the brand for news and info.

Mothership VI Eyeshadow Palette - Midnight Sun
@danielledanielle 🤣 My brain’s still stuck on the Hermes comparison. You know you’ve overpriced your makeup when the comparable Hermes makeup is significantly cheaper.
To be fair, I don’t know the LV quad pan sizes in terms of volume/weight. But in promo photos of a quad beside a lipstick, it looks the same size as an Hermes quad. An Hermes quad is a total 0.11 ounces, according to the brand. I’m guessing the LV pans aren’t much bigger than Hermes pans, but I won’t know without seeing official measurements. I seriously doubt these pans are the same size as a Mothership pan. Soooo if LV and Hermes quads contain the same volume/weight of product, then LV’s pricing is crazy—even by luxury standards. Even if I just compare both brands’ quad refills, the price difference is astonishing. And all of this makes the Hermes quads look a lot more reasonably attainable, especially with Nordy Notes. 😂🤣
tl;dr: dang LV, you’re out here making me buy Hermes now.
@Sunnysmom The refills are $60 for the lipsticks. It’s going to be pricey.
I see that, thanks @KNC24 ! Well I’ve done similar damage with Chanel and Dior so will just have to see if the quality is worth it but they look so good! 😆
@WinglessOne I plan on buying the purple and blue eyeshadow quads, and brushes. I didn’t see a purple lipstick. Probably that one too.
This shadow seems like madness @WinglessOne ! Not that the lip isn’t also. I wonder if they will work as a refill too. We lucked out with the Diors! 😊 I don’t know if this is doable truly.
@Sunnysmom I’ve been thinking about other pricey quads I’ve bought… Prada’s refills are $70 (I think the 3 newer “nude” ones are $60-65?) and their tray’s not a metal that’ll stick to a magnetic palette, so you kinda have to buy a case too—but that’s just $15 more. Some people still complain about the Prada makeup cases/components not feeling very lux. Maybe those are the people who’ll happily drop $250 on an LV quad. All I know is, Prada’s eyeshadows themselves are quite nice. I expect the LV shadows to also be good performers, though I’m curious to see how the formulas differ (or don’t) from Pat’s own shadows.
I’m so glad Dior didn’t force customers to buy that Rouge Premier case! 😂 We definitely lucked out there. If LV does force a case purchase, then the only way I’ll get one of those lipsticks is if they come to Nordstrom (so I can use Nordy Notes) or someone generously gifts me one.
I know @WinglessOne . I saw that someone made funny comment saying “never thought Hermes would be the bargain” or something like that! It looks beautiful for sure. I wonder about the quality too. Even Celine isn’t that nutty. Yet. I think I could probably resist the shadows unless out of this world (is anything ?!) but the lip clearly gets to me plus the collector ish aspect of it which I usually don’t do , always wanting to use stuff! I still can’t believe Dior didn’t require the case either! That is quite a jump for a shadow palette, sheesh. I do not have a Prada shadow! Somehow the shades never called out to me like the Hermes did though the quality feels good on the Prada. Do you love them?
@Sunnysmom I have 3 Prada quads and they perform very well on my lids. When they first launched, I had lowish expectations because of my experience with a few other fashion houses’ shadows (Gucci, for instance). So I was shocked by how smooth and silky most of the Prada shadows felt. I loved my first one (don’t recall the quad names… the one with the green shadow) + case enough to get 2 more as refills, though I did use Nordy Notes on ‘em.
Haha, I forgot about Hermes. Not only are their quads cheaper, they also come with a brush (a “real” brush with wood handle!) and the fancy Hermes orange box, oh la la! 🤣 The refills are also cheaper! I’ve never use Hermes shadows and don’t know the creative behind them, so I dunno if they’re Pat McGrath level good. Regardless, Hermes being the bargain option is hilarious!
I should try a Prada sometime @WinglessOne . The shade combos never really called out to me thankfully! I really like Hermes however and yes the great brush and pouch and fab orange box! Lol. You would maybe prefer the quality of the Prada shadow compared to Hermes tho or maybe not. I’ve heard others say this tho I really do like the ones I have, both the neutrals and the brighter combos. You’d better try some for science of course don’t you think?! 🤓 Yay for all the Nordies notes, they really do help!
I believe 8/20.
Also, Glass Skin Mask 001 is available online at Ulta
Forgot to post my XII Petalmorphosis vs. II Sublime (& others) comparison swatches in this thread. I’ll leave most of the detailed feedback/notes in that thread and cross-post the swatch photos in this one. All photos were taken indoors in beauty lighting.
I thought it’d be fun to compare Pat’s only other greenish Mothership to Petalmorphosis. I didn’t expect them to be similar at all, aside from the rose shade in both palettes. Then this happened:
Finishes are obviously different between the palettes, but the overall color story (minus purples) ain’t too far off.
Here’s a study of greens, including the one I figured would be closest to Petalmorphosis’s sparkly green:
That Evergreen green > blue > violet shift though.
If anyone wants Petalmorphosis solely for that sparkly blitz green (and it is indeed quite sparkly in person), and you already have Sublime + some warm purple shadows, you can save yourself $100+ by just buying Danessa Myricks Beauty Colorfix - Multi-Use Eye, Cheek & Lip Waterproof Liquid Pigment Evergreen instead—though Evergreen’s much color-shiftier than Blitz Radiant Rhapsody. I’m just sayin’.
I still have no regrets about using a Rouge Reward to get Petalmorphosis. I doubt I’ll change my mind after using this palette for a week or two. Even for someone like me who loves very shifty duo/multichromes and all the pretty colors, I think I’ll get lots of use outta this palette. I’ve told a couple folks Petalmorphosis seems to have more one-and-done shades than any other Mothership. (To be fair, I don’t own XI or VII (eh, technically I kinda do have VII since it’s a curation of previous shades), and I’m still considering offloading IX since I very rarely open it). I also think this palette’s the brand’s attempt to strike a balance between user-friendly for the masses and shiny sparkly things for longtime Pat McGrath fans. It’ll be interesting to see how this palette fares, sales & returns wise.
@WinglessOne I agree. It seems to want to appeal to the masses. I'm intrigued to see how the updated Mothership formulas are. I love the green in Petalmorphosis because it doesn't have a deep base. I have other greens from indie palettes and other brands but usually they are shifty or have a dark base. Blitz Radiant Rhapsody is quite bright compared to most of the ones I have.
Hi
Here are some comparison swatches for Petalmorphosis vs Whatsup Beauty Dragon Eye. It's nowhere near a dupe, just a similar vibe, especially with the mattes. If you like shifty shades, Dragon Eye wins. PMG is more "wearable" I'd say.
PMG is on the left, WUB on the right- no match for the green matte, it's a purple-y brown instead
direct sunlight Petalmorphosis swatches are marked with a P
Indirect sunlight
indoor overhead lighting
Here are also some swatches of similar shades to the metallics in Petalmorphosis vs previous PMG palettes. Some of the comparisons are metallic shades, some are baked. That emerald green is the standout shade to me. It's such a beautiful shade, and quite unique to my collection.
The only similar shade to that emerald is Empire. Mine is a little dried out but even so, it doesn't match the sparkle of the PMG.
@makeitup305 Gorgeous swatches! Thanks so much for doing this!
