Thoughts on Petalmorphosis from someone whose last palette was Moonlit Seduction (Mothership X).

I've worn the palette 3 days in a row and have now used every shade. While I love the color story and the formulas are very good, it's just not special, in my opinion. To me, the most unique shade is that emerald green because those are hard to find without a dark base. While all the metallics are really nice, they're just metallics, with maybe just a little extra sparkle. Almost every brand can make a good metallic formula these days. None of the shades have the wow factor of the previous baked shades. If you can get it with a rouge reward or Ulta points (plus a coupon) it might be a nice addition to your collection but even with a 20% off I'd think twice. I had some trouble blending out the mattes but I think it might just have to do with my eye primer and not setting it beforehand.

Thanks for the feedback, @makeitup305! I used a Rouge Reward + gift card to buy mine. I haven’t opened it yet though: it’s still waiting for me in my building’s package room, along with a couple other packages. Eh, I’ll go get ‘em this weekend. 

Moonlit Seduction was also my last Mothership (before this one), and I still haven’t really warmed up to its neutral color story + lack of baked shades. I’m much more drawn to Petalmorphosis’s color story, so I’m more likely to forgive the lack of baked formulas. I mean, I still love Decadence which contains zero baked shadows. But also, I wish Pat’s brand would lower the price of Motherships that lack baked shades. I know part of the price is for the component/packaging, and I have no idea how much the current non-baked Astral & Blitz shadows cost to produce. Still, it feels like we’re paying for less nowadays. Pat could’ve released Petalmorphosis as a set of 2 or 3 baked Blitz/Astral quads and I’d have happily bought ‘em. 

Anyway, I can’t fairly say more about the palette til I’ve swatched and used it myself. Sounds like the palette overall performed well for you, though the formulas aren’t what we’re used to from Motherships.

@WinglessOne I agree on the price, that's what gets me. It definitely feels like a high-end luxury palette but it's not special enough to warrant a $129 price to me. Kind of hypocritical of me to say that, since I've bought two YSL quads for a similar price, and those are smaller (I still got a good discount, though 😉). I liked the formula for Decadence but the shades were just hard for me to use. The darker base on many of them stopped me from using it often. I would have loved 2 astral quads, too.

Actually don't find that hypocritical at all @makeitup305 .  Generally, we all have a preference and bias, and I know I've bought palettes with similar colorstories just because I either like the price, how it's presented, the convenience of having certain shades together, and so on.  You don't need me to say this, but I did want to point it out I think how you approached it was a pretty practical stance.  You could've ranted or raved one way, but you gave it a few days and wears and came back to add more to help others prior to the sale.

That's also why sometimes I like having mini-debates here, it's not to ruffle feathers, but just to give people a somewhat different perspective and I trust our collective community here because we have aaaaaaaaaaaaa looot of palettes, and a good sense of what we like and what we think is quality.

@danielledanielle  Hear-hear about mini debates! A healthy community (of any kind) needs internal debate to remain healthy and hopefully grow. Otherwise the community’s just a shallow echo chamber. Debates shouldn’t get all jerkface and stuff, of course, but they’re a good way for all of us to share various perspectives and learn stuff together.

@WinglessOne @danielledanielle agreed. I wanted to give it a good test run since we're such a niche community and have a lot of amazing products already. None of us "need" another palette, but PMG has come up often as a "break my no/low buy for" brand and, considering the times, I wanted to throw in my two cents to make sure people really had an idea before splurging. 

I've been kind of a "hater" for PMG's newer releases so I tried to be conscious of that and provide a more neutral perspective. Has it popped up in any stores yet? The Sephora I went to today doesn't carry PMG.

@danielledanielle @makeitup305  I just checked (via BOPIS product locator on Sephora’s product page) my city’s flagship store and it’s not there yet either. And it’s not at our second largest Sephora, which also carries the brand. I wonder if Ulta and/or Nordstrom’s getting it soon.

It's at none of mine and I have quite a few within 45 min drive @WinglessOne @danielledanielle . Did you notice that some other Motherships popped up on the PMG Sephora page as "new" and don't have any reviews? did they reformulate them?
