What's on your plate?

Hello there, ladies and gents!

Keeping in line with all the fun and interactive threads asking about your most recent halls, items you have your eyes on, what you're currently wearing, what's your hair routine, and more, I've decide to branch out and ask:

"What's on your plate?"

The beauty world doesn't just stop at skin care and cosmetics, it also goes hand in hand with your overall health and well-being, so with that, I'm curious to see what we're all chowing down and snacking on be it for breakfast, lunch, dinner, dessert, or inbetween!

For those with apps that help count calories or to those who just want to keep a log, here's a place to share, possibly find and share some recipes, and even tips on maintaining a balanced diet.

Don't just share food items, but even drinks! I'm a huge fan of tea and at least have a cup of green tea a day (anti-oxidants) and drink plenty of water.

For lunch today, I had:

-Brown rice

-Steamed egg

-Steamed red snapper with green onion, sesame oil, and black pepper

-Gai lan (it's a type of Chinese vegetable/greens)

Now, tell me, Beauty Talk world, what do you have? Smiley Very Happy

Re: What's on your plate?

WTG, dad!

Re: What's on your plate?

Exactly! #yesiamspoiled Smiley Tongue

Re: What's on your plate?

My dad makes grilled cheese, plain cheese quesadillas, hamburgers, and gazpacho. That's it. No joke.

He attempted chocolate chip pancakes once for a sleepover I was having (I was 13? Maybe?) so mom got him a boxed pancake mix and everything (before she had to leave) super easy, right? He made one recipe worth and dumped in an entire bag of chocolate chips and proceeded to use EVOO for the skillet. It was hilarious. But not really edible.

I'm impressed by your dad's skills!

Re: What's on your plate?

Wow!  That's crazy!

Yeah my dad is amazing.  He has 5 sisters so he spent a lot of time as a kid in the kitchen with them.  (They lost their mother when my dad was very young so the sisters managed the household of 7 kids and their dad of course).  So he learned a lot about cooking.  Lucky me to have both parents who are great cooks!

This also explains why I just can't cook.  I never really had to cook for myself so I haven't learned.

Re: What's on your plate?

LOL! The entire bag??? Talk about a sweet tooth! Smiley Tongue

Re: What's on your plate?

Today we had the leftover smoked ribs from the other night. I made a millet pilaf to go with them that had very slight vanilla taste to it, to offset the spiciness of the ribs. The broccoli is just for @lyravega (hee hee hee).

Re: What's on your plate?

You trying to give me nightmares?! Keep your bryuckolli, I'll take those ribs, thank you very much. Smiley Wink

Hmm... That millet pilaf looks interesting, though... I might need a recipe. I hope it's not sweet?

Re: What's on your plate?

Nope not sweet, but if you hold the currants, it would be even less sweet.

Recipe: Cook millet. After cooked, toss in some ghee, dash of vanilla and handful of raisins.

Re: What's on your plate?

I thought that was a cookie :'(

Re: What's on your plate?

Ha Ha! It was pretty tasty for not being a cookie, actually! Smiley Wink

Re: What's on your plate?

I'd love to try making millet pilaf! Yum to that and the broccoli!! The broccoli looks so tender!

Re: What's on your plate?

This is the first time I've had millet in years. (I usually eat quinoa most of the time when I want a grain, even though it really isn't one.) I really like how millet tastes slightly toasted and slightly sweet. I plan to make other things with it now!

Re: What's on your plate?

Cool! I also really like barley as a grain. I think I'm going to use it next chance I get!

Re: What's on your plate?

Last few days... or so... Smiley Wink

Kraut ( whole head that I cut to pieces ) with smoked, dry, pork ribs. Roasted. Yum!

This is an old photo, but it looks like this when you're ready to dig in ( except this one was with shredded kraut ):

Okroshka ( cold, no-cook, refreshing summer soup made with fresh crunchy veggies ( radishes, cucumbers, scallions, carrots, celery... ) boiled eggs, bunch of dill weed... and yogurt. Or kvass. But, I can't use kvass as I'm gluten intolerant. Smiley Sad )

And polenta chili cobbler:

Re: What's on your plate?

Yum.. especially the kraut. Not the soup though (I don't like cold or creamy soup).

Re: What's on your plate?

Yeah, I don't like soups. Period. But, this one is yummy to my tummy. Smiley Happy I don't like liquid food in general... Unless it's a spritzer. Or a good hard cider. Or a mojito! Smiley Very Happy

Now, that's a kinda smoothie I could do daily! Smiley Wink

Re: What's on your plate?

Yummy!  We make something similar- bake pork ribs or chops in sauerkraut.  But we always have to have mashed potatoes with it.

Re: What's on your plate?

@lyravega Do you make Okroshka often?  Its a summer staple in my house in the summers. Accompanied with some potato perashki.  We make it with either dill or cilantro or mint and cucumber. I personally like it as a drink with shredded cucumber and mint. Very refreshing. I don't like kvass so I don't even mess with it.

Re: What's on your plate?

Quite often during the summer, @BrideSona . Very refreshing indeed! We don't like cilantro, so it is always with dill over here.

And, I was like... What are perashki? Piroshki! Duh. Haha, threw me off completely. Smiley Tongue Yeah... I don't make those anymore, either.... Smiley Sad

Re: What's on your plate?

@lyravegawere your piroshki fried or boiled? Mine are always fried (learned it that way). Can't get enough of it! There is a piroshki bakery down the street from me. They make the fried ones.

Do you make any bleenchik? (crepes stuffed with ground beef).

Where is your home base? We might be close enough to have a okroshka and piroshki party!

Re: What's on your plate?

That soup looks super good! I think I'll try that without eggs and use cashew yogurt instead of dairy. Awesome, thanks for sharing!
