What's on your plate?

Hello there, ladies and gents!

Keeping in line with all the fun and interactive threads asking about your most recent halls, items you have your eyes on, what you're currently wearing, what's your hair routine, and more, I've decide to branch out and ask:

"What's on your plate?"

The beauty world doesn't just stop at skin care and cosmetics, it also goes hand in hand with your overall health and well-being, so with that, I'm curious to see what we're all chowing down and snacking on be it for breakfast, lunch, dinner, dessert, or inbetween!

For those with apps that help count calories or to those who just want to keep a log, here's a place to share, possibly find and share some recipes, and even tips on maintaining a balanced diet.

Don't just share food items, but even drinks! I'm a huge fan of tea and at least have a cup of green tea a day (anti-oxidants) and drink plenty of water.

For lunch today, I had:

-Brown rice

-Steamed egg

-Steamed red snapper with green onion, sesame oil, and black pepper

-Gai lan (it's a type of Chinese vegetable/greens)

Now, tell me, Beauty Talk world, what do you have? 😄

Re: What's on your plate?

TEMPURA ALL DA THINGZ!!!!!

Re: What's on your plate?

Cabbage rolls made in slow cooker. If the cabbage leaves are put into water first to soften them, this also makes them considerably less "cabbagy" in taste. Filling had grass-fed ground lamb and cooked quinoa, among other things. First cabbage rolls I've made in years....

Re: What's on your plate?

You are always making some kind of wonderful thing!

Re: What's on your plate?

Those look beautiful! Is the sauce tomato paste?

Re: What's on your plate?

Yes, the sauce is tomato paste mixed with some vegetable broth. Then some seasonings added.

When I made these years ago, they always seemed too cabbagy so I didn't like them after the first several bites. I think that I didn't pre-cook the leaves when I used to make them, which was the reason for the strong taste. These are pretty mellow.... perfect winter food.

Re: What's on your plate?

Nice! It's crazy how those subtle changes in preparation can make a huge difference in taste. 🙂 I'm glad to hear the recipe has been tweaked to work out for your taste buds!

Re: What's on your plate?

So true, Lylysa. Makes cooking (and eating) so much fun. There's always something new to try or learn.

Re: What's on your plate?

This week my dad has been experimenting by trying to make some of his favorite Chinese takeout dishes.

First he made Mongolian Beef

Then there was Kung Pao Chicken

Re: What's on your plate?

WTG, dad!

Re: What's on your plate?

Exactly! #yesiamspoiled 😛

Re: What's on your plate?

My dad makes grilled cheese, plain cheese quesadillas, hamburgers, and gazpacho. That's it. No joke.

He attempted chocolate chip pancakes once for a sleepover I was having (I was 13? Maybe?) so mom got him a boxed pancake mix and everything (before she had to leave) super easy, right? He made one recipe worth and dumped in an entire bag of chocolate chips and proceeded to use EVOO for the skillet. It was hilarious. But not really edible.

I'm impressed by your dad's skills!

Re: What's on your plate?

LOL! The entire bag??? Talk about a sweet tooth! 😛

Re: What's on your plate?

Wow!  That's crazy!

Yeah my dad is amazing.  He has 5 sisters so he spent a lot of time as a kid in the kitchen with them.  (They lost their mother when my dad was very young so the sisters managed the household of 7 kids and their dad of course).  So he learned a lot about cooking.  Lucky me to have both parents who are great cooks!

This also explains why I just can't cook.  I never really had to cook for myself so I haven't learned.

Re: What's on your plate?

Ermahgawdddddd!!

The sauce on that chicken looks sooooooooo good, I could imagine that over some rice or even noodles would have been so yummy!

Re: What's on your plate?

Both dishes were awesome!  I'm so happy I live down the street from my parents 😛

Yes it was!  We had it over plain rice.  Delicious!

Re: What's on your plate?

After the holiday season it seems I'm slowly getting back on track in terms of cooking regularly. During Thanksgiving, Christmas, and the New Years it's been nonstop parties and gatherings at the homes of friends, dinners and meals with the family out, and just picking up whatever quick food is on the road while jetting from place to place.

Last night I made shepherd's pie with ground beef (versus the traditional lamb), but totally forgot I was out of peas! >.< It was still yummy and a relatively quick and easy meal to make so that was nice.

Tonight is either pork chops or salmon!

What food and drink have yall had to ring in the new year????

Re: What's on your plate?

Tonight is a chili night!

I've been cooking a bunch which is great. 🙂

(totally had pasta last night. lol)

Re: What's on your plate?

I love chili!  Looks delicious!

Re: What's on your plate?

*dives into bowl

Are those avocado chunks????

Re: What's on your plate?

Green bell pepper but avocado would be tasty!

Re: What's on your plate?

My second guess was going to be jalapeno and third would be the peppers!

The the darker and lighter shade of green is what made me think avocado first....now I want avocado.
