Hello BIC beauties! ๐ I realized we don't have an active music thread here in BIC (there seem to be a few different short-lived threads from years past, but nothing recent as far as I could find), and I thought it would be fun to have a place to recommend our favorite artists and songs, chat about what we've been listening to lately, post our song of the day or anything else music related! Everyone is welcome to join in however you like, however often you like, and all types of music are welcome! ๐
@Samtian @makeitup305 oh I love Hozier! I remember discovering him years ago and raving to my best friend about his music and she was like "oh yeah Hozier, I like him" and I was like "WHAT you mean you've been listening to this and DIDN't TELL ME?!" lol ๐คฃ
anyway thanks for the recommendations, will definitely check them out!
@Samtian Hozier is amazing. It's hard to find a song of his I don't enjoy.
@makeitup305 He is! I wish I could see him live.
@Samtian I saw him at a music festival forever ago and he was great. I would love to be able to see him in concert again!
Thanks to everyone who's contributed to this thread so far, I love hearing about what you all are listening to, and getting recommendations for new music to check out! ๐
Today's song of the day is:
Kate Rusby - Only Desire What You Have
I love Kate Rusby, I have ever since I was a little kid listening to her first CD that my mom had! She's probably my favorite musical artist - I think she could sing anything and I'd love it. Seeing her live is definitely on my bucket list!
@itsfi Great photo. I am noticing the new MERIT Retrospectโข LโExtrait de Parfum 1 oz / 30 mL parfum spray ..how are you liking it?
Thank you @Mellmars1185, I've been trying out different ways to shoot things. I'm liking the Merit - some days the initial spritz is a little much for me but the dry down has been one I've enjoyed from the beginning. The opening is growing on me. The first time I tried it though it was too much; the woodiness came through pretty quick and prominently, but since then, it's really been a nice. I think weather had a lot to do with it. It's happened with a couple of different fragrances where they were not that attractive to me in the warm months and then the weather cooled and I tried it again and ... oooooh, it was wonderful.
@itsfi @ I understand. I used to wash off a scent if I didnt like it initially. The other day, I tried a sample of a Killian perfume and it grew on me through the day. It is interesting how that works!
@itsfi jazz is so underrated, I think! I can see it making for great getting ready music. Do you listen to more classic 20th century jazz, or contemporary artists, or both? I love a lot of Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Armstrong, oldies like that. My parents like jazz a lot, they went to a Jane Monheit show just last night.
P.S. love the pic! Is that the new Merit perfume?
Agree @caitbird! I listen to a little of both, but mostly the classics, like Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Armstrong, Charlie Parker, Nina Simone. Oh, what a fun night for your parents! I was with some friends and they had Jane Monheit playing.
Thank you! I've been working on some non-staged shots - not sure what that would be called - like candids but not of people. Anyhow, sorta in that vein - I did move up my phone so it appeared in the frame and turned a couple of the products around so you could see the name. Yes, that's the new MERIT Retrospectโข LโExtrait de Parfum 1 oz / 30 mL parfum spray - the presentation is visually stunning; the scent grew on me. I first tried it in store and wasn't sure about it, but I received a sample with a purchase from the brand and after wearing it a few times, really came to like it. Then went searching a couple of my local stores for it during the sale because it quickly flew off the shelves. It's woody, fruity and floral; I find the particular combination of notes in this one to be unique.
@itsfi with jazz I listen to mostly the classics too (though I do listen to and enjoy some contemporary artists too, including Jane Monheit).
I like the way you put that, candids but not for people, an interesting idea! I always love your photos and they always inspire me to try and improve my own pictures.
That sounds like a very interesting scent, I'll have to see if I can get my hands on a sample or give it a sniff in store!
Todayโs earworm is โNo se acaba hasta que acabeโ by Lagos ft. Reik. It translates to โitโs not over til itโs overโ. Iโve been singing the chorus all day.
@makeitup305 thanks for sharing, I will check it out! ๐
Great idea for a thread, @caitbird ! I love music. It's really hard for me to keep up with current music. About the only time I have time to listen to music is in the car on the way to and from work and running errands. Then I flip through stations looking for something I like! Today I heard Aerosmith Walk This Way (I was in 7th or 8th grade when this was popular) and found out Led Zeppelin's untitled fourth album was released 50 years ago today (this was 5th or 6th grade). Yea, I'm old! ๐
Edit: Love the pic! ๐ฅฐ๐๐พ๐ง
@Titian06 thank you! ๐ I am glad to hear someone else still listens to the radio in the car, sometimes I feel like I'm the only one who hasn't moved over to Spotify lol. I don't think I know that Aerosmith song, I will have to give it a listen.
@caitbird Wonderful thread idea! I have been enjoying Drifting by Tiesto, Poppy Baskcomb. It gets me pumped up. Cute photo! Is that your kitty? I wonder what song he/she is listening to?
@Mellmars1185 thank you! I will add this song to my list of music to check out, I can always use more pump up songs haha! Not my kitty, just a pic I found on Pinterest. I imagine he/she is listening to something relaxing and mellow.
@caitbird I've been on a Spanish music kick lately. I'm a native Spanish speaker but usually listen to mostly music in English. However, over the past few months I've discovered a couple of Spanish-speaking artists that have really drawn me in. The song that's stuck in my head today is "Tuvimos Futuro" by Lagos. It translates to "We had a future" and it's about reminiscing a past relationship about a point in time where they stayed quiet and, because they didn't talk it out, everything ended.
@makeitup305 I will have to check this song/artist out, it sounds so interesting! I love songs that tell some kind of story - I listen to a lot of traditional folk music, ballads, that sort of thing. I only speak English but I've always wanted to learn more about music from other languages and cultures.
