Everyone has something they love to do or collect. What's yours?
-I am a huge Sailor Moon fan and have a rather large collection, and still growing. I suppose I consider it both, a hobby and collecting
❤️ Moonie for life ❤️
-Limited Edition Disney dolls from The Disney Store, these dolls are just gorgeous
@WinglessOne You have such a zest for life- that's a true gift.
I love wandering in cities and really enjoyed discovering Chicago. Have you ever read about the Situationists? This pre-68 French group of thinkers, you might find their writings on psychogeography interesting.
Two pianos is really impressive! And I seem to recall you played that devilishly difficult composition by Ravel, the Gaspard?? I only ever got around to learning the slowest movement ha ha. It's so beautiful.
@WinglessOne Film is great! I just had my first roll developed and scanned.
@WinglessOne oh wow music boxes sound really neat! There are so many beautiful ones out there!
@WinglessOne oh!! so many things 🧡 I love sterling silver rings too, Pandora is my favorite brand. Also love cooking (it's obvious, being an italian haha) and I'm so shocked by the fact that sooo many of you like arcade games, nes/atari/amiga etc Do you have a favorite game? I like paper boy, burger time....spelunker, peter packrat and many more 😊
@Anonymous I love arcade games! Especially the oldies I grew up with. My favorites are Tempest, Centipede, and Gyruss (which is 1000x better than Galaga and Galaxian). I especially love Tempest for its very simple vector design and surprising difficulty at higher levels. I also love Ms. Pac-Man, Dig Dug, Tetris, and Time Pilot. I also remember playing Pole Position, which was hard to do because it was so popular at every arcade: too many other people were lined up (eh, standing around and stalking) waiting to play it.
Oh, and there was another arcade motion simulator game I don't recall the name of... it was a first-person shooter with a fantasy setting, and during the bonus round you rode a dragon... asking Google... aha, Space Harrier! That game was worth playing mostly for the dragon-flight simulation. And now I remember Burger Time. I used to never want to play it because it sounded boring. Then I tried it one day and it was harder than I thought it'd be! 😂 (I felt the same about Dig Dug until I finally tried it one day.)
@WinglessOne oh god!! space harrier, you just bring up so many memories in my mind!! haha....I used to get almost dizzy when I played it on my pc, like motion sickness, but it was a cool game to play 😊
Your Hobbies and Collections are fascinating, of course!
I collect Buddha figurines. And Lego sets. For hobbies I do yoga and I love gardening but it’s such a short period of time where I live 🥲.
@ather My husband collects LEGO sets too and he refuses to open some them. How did the Buddha collection start?
@ather I love Buddah statues. When my Uncle (who passed away there) was in Japan for the Vietnam war he'd send my Grandma stuff. This statue was one of them. As a child I'd also walk over to my Grandma's and stare at it haha, I was so in love with it. After she passed away it has lived with me since.
@Samtian ,
It's wonderful that you have that statue from your Grandma! I love the photo, too!
I would really like to find a statue like that for our garden! There's a story that goes with that wish.
@Samtian Awww. I’m glad that you’ve had it since. I really feel like they bring peace to me. And make me happy when I see them. Looks like a great statue. My favourite one I have my husband got for me and it’s actually a Buddha baby.
Oh, I love Buddhas, @ather! The husband has been lucky enough to travel in East Asia for business a few times and always brings one back when he comes home.
@quspork Omg lucky!!! I’m so jealous. I’ve started collecting animal yoga figures too. But not sure how many I’ll let myself get. I’m running out of room to store them. Unlike the Buddha figures tend to be a lot smaller.
I like birding/birdwatching but I'm not patient enough to be an avid birder. My current fascination is tied to a possible red tailed hawk around my hood, and last year they had a family. I think I saw them earlier this month, because it's been unseasonably warm, but I'm not sure yet.
@danielledanielle I also love birds and birdwatching. Nature gifts so many beautiful moments if you have the sensitivity (and some patience at times) to observe. I have a beautiful couple of birds building their nest in my porch, I saw some sort of hawk fishing in the lake (or trying, because after several attempts there was no fish), today there was a beautiful woodpecker on a palm tree, and soon I will receive the visit of my favorite birds, the hummingbirds! I was able to have them eat from my hand and perch on my finger. Such an experience! 😃😃😃😍
@danielledanielle This is something I miss about living in Michigan (my pre-Chicago home). I mean, we get a good variety of birds here, including lots of peregrine falcons—sometimes, if you really pay attention, you'll see them dive and swoop from highrise roofs—but living in the Michigan burbs meant occasionally getting divebombed by overprotective bluejay parents (man, bluejays are mean), frequent songbird sightings, and waking up to woodpeckers hammering trees in the backyard. Also, owls. So many owls. I've only seen an owl once in this city. I have a better chance of seeing a coyote than an owl. 😄
Super cool that you have a local red tailed hawk family! I hope you get to see them again.
@danielledanielle They're very majestic looking. Much prettier than the hawks we have.
@Ispend2much6 ,I kind of think all hawks are cool looking, they are mini-dinosaurs!
