Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

Welcome to Year 7 of our Pan It! Challenge ElleElleG_0-1704168084184.gif

ElleElleG_9-1704168647118.jpeg

The "Rules"

To accommodate a variety of interests, you all are encouraged to pick items to pan that are most suitable to your collections.  For some, this might mean focusing on a particular type of product (like lipstick) and for others this may include a larger variety spanning your entire makeup or skincare routine.

Getting Started (please share the following)

  • Which item(s) you would like to work on
  • How long you will work on said item
  • Goal: explore a new item, revisit an old item, decide whether to keep pass or trash, and/or completely finish item, etc.
  • Starting photo of item

Please Use This Thread To...

  • share what item(s) you are working on,
  • provide comparative progress photos of your item(s) monthly (at the beginning of the month when possible),
  • ask questions,
  • encourage others,
  • motivate others with the looks you create with your item(s)

Tips and Tricks to Panning/Getting Some Use Out of Your Stash:

Spoiler
  • Take photos!!  When you think you aren’t making a dent in anything look back at those photos, I’m certain you’ll see some changes 😃 *this is the number one recommendation for everyone, regardless of how long you’ve been panning! Those photos add up and can help you realize progress you might otherwise overlook.
  • If you goal is to hit pan or use something up entirely, try concentrating your brush/applicator in the same area each time you use it
  • Multitask your products: eyeshadows as highlighter, lipstick as blush, eyeshadow as brow powder, etc.
  • Layer eyeshadow to create different colors (this is especially helpful to get use out of shades you’re not fond of).
  • Have shadows with a ton of fall out?  Use water
  • Watching the progress of others’ can be fun but try not compare your progress to theirs.  We all use our makeup differently and have different goals.
  • Don’t restrict yourself to only using the item(s) you are working on.  It’s more than OK to incorporate other items or take a break!
  • Makeup should be fun….if you begin to dread doing your makeup because you made a commitment to use a product that you now hate, TOSS IT!  Do not force yourself to use up something you don’t like.  Move on to something else!  (This includes excluding particular shades from your goals if focusing on palettes, etc.)

Ideas to Help You Pan Those Items:

Spoiler
  • Roll the dice: number your items and use a random number generator to pick what you will use each (day/week/month/etc.)
  • Layer/Mask: items you are less fond of under things you like
  • Pan a Look: at the beginning of the week pick a look that you can wear everyday
  • Recreate: a look worn by a fellow BICer, celebrity, etc.
  • Spice up an "everyday" look by adding subtle pops of color (in the crease or on the lower lash line, mix lip products to make shades wearable, etc.)

Re: Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

Oh oh oh nice!!! I see pan 🙌 @Samtian

Re: Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

@lmaster It's slowly but surely growing.

Re: Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

Ahhhh, weighing your products - that's a fab idea @Samtian! As is your plan to move out the things you don't see progress on at the end of the year - 3 months is a good amount of time to put them to the test!

lol, I first read "I would have taken angles from down low but Apollo was wanting attention." as you having to pass on taking photos at an angle because if you did, Apollo would have made his own efforts to help you pan the highlighter!! He does like to help after all. 😁

Re: Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

@itsfi Oh yes Apollo definitely would have! I don't remember who it was, but someone else started weighing theirs and I was like...I need to do that, and I finally did. I have dozens more items that will take their place if they don't get much use.

Re: Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

Okay ... Beginning of September! I really feel like I had a lot of progress in August!  I'm thinking I'll be seeing some empties in the next while.

a.jpg

-Too Faced Dew You foundation.  I didn't even mark it this month since it feels like it's empty.  That said, I've been using it daily since Sept 1 and it's still going.

-Kheil's Lip Oil.  Haven't really used this much.  Maybe once I'm done done with the Lip Scrub?  Before year end... it'll be done.

-Too Cool for School Lip Scrub.  I really like this one.  I could probably call this done as is, It doesn't twist up anymore, that said, I'm going to finish the rest of the product down the tube with a lip brush.

-10-0-6 Peach Mask.  Been using this as a neck and décolleté mask a few times a week.  Quite like the experience, but don't see a ton of pay off with regards to the state of my skin.

c.jpg

-The Bumble and Bumble primer spray is nice.  I quite like it.  I did have to refill my travel size and was using it with my two nieces hair for two weeks, so there likely won't be quite such a large jump next month.

- I tried to use the split end mender after every shower.  No clue if it's working.  But I'll keep going.

d.jpg

-I do see a bit of a bigger pan in the bottom left shade, but only a bit.  I've been trying to work on the bottom right more.  You can't see it, but there is a dent.

-Slow and steady on the Brow Wiz.  I won't be buying pencils after I'm done my current stash.  I've solidified my love for tinted gel.

b.jpg

- The Clean Cashmere is done.  I didn't mind it, but I won't be seeking another.  It was good, not amazing.

-Elizabeth and James Black is getting some use and I hope to finish it off this month now that I've finished the Clean.  It's a bit more fall scented then the weather is giving me right now, but I still like it.

e.jpg

-The dang Vaseline is DONE!!!  I swear it was the never ending bottle.  I even had this guy upside down and was shaking it out every morning.  I know I have another of these open from lord knows when but it's not for me.

-I'm replacing the Vaseline with the Jergens natural glow.  I've used this before on my legs and figure now is the time to use it up while I'm still wearing skirts before winter kicks in.

Re: Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

@missjeanie  awesome progress! I admire your dedication to finishing every last bit of the lip scrub - good thing it's one that you like! And yay for finishing the Vaseline - that is a huge bottle, great job! 🙌

Re: Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

"The dang Vaseline is DONE!!!"

excited gif.gif

Waaaahoooo!!! 😍 It's D - O - N - E, done!!! Wow!! You must be so happy to have polished it off! I'm so happy for you, @missjeanie! That was a monstrous effort to work through that bottle.

Re: Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

@itsfi  love this perfect reaction gif for this 🤣

Re: Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

@missjeanie You have made mountains of progress!!! Woo bye bye Vaseline!

Re: Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

@Samtian So glad to have that dang bottle gone!!!

Re: Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

Nice!! 🙌 Keep pushing through @missjeanie

Re: Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

Some months feel easier than others @lmaster !  One product at a time!!

Re: Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

@missjeanie yay for finishing the Vaseline!! Body cream is my guilty pleasure (specifically BBW) — I have so many tubes to finish that I’m going to be on a body moisturizer no-buy for like… 2+ years 🥲

Re: Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

@KeriCherryDee I'm not typically a big user of body cream unless it's dead of winter.  That said... I may have enough supply to rival your 2 years lol!  I did pick up some from BBW during a summer sale (I went for candles and came out with half the store), so I'm curious to see how I like them!

Re: Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

Another month and a half late....

Beginning of August photo progress

1.jpg

--Vaseline lotion is a no.  Too sticky.  It's been like this for two years.  So close to done.

-The coconut milk split end mender.  Has not healed any split ends.  Maybe it's helping to prevent them?  As long as I don't go overboard with the application it's not hurting anything so I'll keep going with it.  But I am getting a haircut to help with the split ends.

-The 10-0-6 peachy face mask has been used as a neck and décolleté mask.  I put it on a few times a week about 10 minutes before I shower.  I'm not sure it's doing anything noticeable to my skin, but I'm trying to be better to this area of my body and the scent is lovely so I'm happy to use it up.

2.jpg

-Keihl's lip oil isn't a favourite at all.  I've powered though these before though so I'm still hoping to have it done before the year's out.

-Too Faced Dew You foundation.  This is one that I didn't like at the beginning of the year and now has grown on me.  I use very little when I use it and blend blend blend.  It's a good shade to match my neck so I do like that.  Once I found what to use with it... great product.

-Two delux size fragrances.  I like both, but don't love them.  The Clean Cashmere is easier to use in the summer, it's just a little lighter than the Elizabeth and James Black.  Both are also rollerballs which aren't a fav.

-Too Cool for School Lip Scrub.  I really enjoy this.  I've been into the habit of using it while I dry/curl my hair in the morning and it's quite nice.  I think I have another that's un touched somewhere.  I do find that I quite like the stick formula over a pot.

3.jpg

-The Neutogena... I'm not sure it did much other than detangle.  It's done though and one more bottle out of my stash.  I have many other products that do this for me, so no repurchase.

-Bumble and Bumble hairdressers oil primer spray.  I like the scent on this one.  I've gone through several bottles of this in the past and have at least one more in my backups.  I also have a smaller size for travel that's been getting use this summer.  Happy to be using this one more.

4.jpg

-The Gxve shadow quad is getting use.  I'm not super crazy with my shadow game so these are 'easy' for me.  I'll likely only hit pan on the bottom right hand (I swear in person I can see a dent in it) before year end but hope that I can get the bottom left finished.

-Brow Wiz... it works.  I just prefer the speed and ease of a tinted brow gel.  I will say this is value for money for someone who like me only uses a bit each day.

Re: Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

I definitely see a dip in that bottom right shadow @missjeanie! It's a long game when it comes to panning shadows, but you got this! 👊

Re: Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

Another product done

IMG_20240910_081454359.jpg

At first this wasn't my favorite, but happily it did grow on me 😊

Re: Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

@lmaster  wow, great job! I'm glad this one grew on you!

Re: Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

Thank you lovely @caitbird

Re: Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

Wow, nicely done @lmaster! Impressive that you kept reaching for it despite it not being a favorite. Which scent is this one from 7 Virtues?
