Welcome to Year 7 of our Pan It! Challenge
The "Rules"
To accommodate a variety of interests, you all are encouraged to pick items to pan that are most suitable to your collections. For some, this might mean focusing on a particular type of product (like lipstick) and for others this may include a larger variety spanning your entire makeup or skincare routine.
Getting Started (please share the following)

Tips and Tricks to Panning/Getting Some Use Out of Your Stash:
Ideas to Help You Pan Those Items:
Past Panning Challenges:
July tally here! I finished 8 products total in July, of which 6 were full-sized! I am also happy to report that one of my pans this month was from my project! LAWLESS Forget The Filler Lip Plumper Line Smoothing Gloss Rosy Outlook is no more. While i did like the product, i have so many lipglosses that i really don’t need to pick up another one at this time.
i may get around to taking photos of what I’ve worked through from this project, but the main ones I’ve used are:
I can’t remember if i mentioned this or not, but part of my project included a LE Natasha Denona 5-pan holiday palette. I believe it was the Aeris. I didn’t think id actually pan it, but i did want to use it more. There was one shade in there that i particularly loved. Unfortunately, it fell off my counter and completely shattered. Not really the panning i had imagined for it, but needless to say its not part of my project any longer 😞 I’ve also got the Huda Beauty Chocolate Obsessions palette in this project, so ill just focus on using that for the rest of the year
Woowhee @cianni, you have done some excellent work with panning - go girl!!! 👊 Oh no, I'm so sorry about the ND palette. When I read about it's demise, I was envisioning it in slow mo, falling off the counter and then hitting the ground and shattering - nooooooooo!!!! RIP ND Aeris.
@cianni wow, awesome panning progress! Sorry about the ND palette, that's always such a bummer when that happens. We've all been there!
Well, time flies, and now it's time for some July updates! I am happy to say that overall, July saw some decent progress for this project, although some items/goals did fall by the wayside. Still, I did a lot better than in June, so I am pretty happy with my progress, and hope to continue making strides with my various goals in August.
Skincare items & goals
- COSRX Hydrium Watery Toner
starting status: ~1/4 full
goal: finish
update: finished! Will be replacing with 3 mini COSRX toners
- The Ordinary 100% Organic Cold-Pressed Rose Hip Seed Oil 1 oz/ 30 mL
starting status: ~3/4 full
goal: finish
update: finished! Will be replacing with Solved Skincare Golden Jojoba Oil
- Glow Recipe Papaya Sorbet Smoothing Enzyme Cleansing Balm & Makeup Remover 3.4 oz/ 100 mL
starting status: ~3/4 full?
goal: finish
update: finished! Will be replacing with I'm From Fig Cleansing Balm
- Alpyn Beauty Willow & Sweet Agave Plumping Lip Mask .35 oz/ 10 mL
- starting status: ~1/4 full?
goal: finish
update: finished! Will be replacing with COSRX Ceramide Lip Sleeping Mask
- sheet masks (all)
- starting status: quite a lot, but I am too lazy to count them 😅
goal: do a sheet mask weekly
update: did 2 sheet masks in July. Not quite weekly, but still better than June, so I'm satisfied.
Hair items & goals
goal: use consistently before showering
update: remembering to use this consistently is still a struggle for me. I remember it sometimes, but usually I still forget. I definitely need to find a better system for reminding me to use it before I shower.
- hair mask samples/minis (all)
goal: finish
update: these are the hair mask minis I'm currently rotating through; haven't finished any of them yet, but making steady progress.
Makeup items & goals
- Hourglass Ambient Lighting Edit Unlocked Palette Jellyfish
goal: use & experiment with at least weekly
update: used at least 2x this past month, so not quite weekly, but I'm still happy I got it on the board, so to speak.
- Natasha Denona Xenon palette (I guess I can't tag this anymore?)
goal: use every shade at least once
update: used 2 more shades (6/15 total)
- Danessa Myricks Lightwork V I Am palette
goal: use every shade at least once
update: used 6 shades (6/18 total)
Didn't do any red or other bright lipstick looks this month, or use any shades from Colourpop Fade Into Hue palette. Will try to do better with both of those goals in August. Still trying to work on Glossier Stretch Concealer & Flower Beauty Blush Bomb Color Drops, but no major progress to report for either.
Here are some looks from July using project pan items:
Fragrance items & goals
- fragrance samples & travel sizes (all)
goal: use each at least 2x, decide whether to purchase full size
update: used 1 sample 1x - Parfums de Marly Delina Exclusif
used 1 travel size 2x - Penhaligon's The Favourite. I liked this one, and will plan to purchase the full size for my collection in the future.
- full size fragrances (all)
goal: use each (13) at least 1x month
update: used 2 FS fragrances: NEST New York Wild Poppy Eau de Parfum 1.7oz/50mL & By Rosie Jane Rosie Eau de Parfum 1.7 oz/ 50 mL , both of which are favorites. I think I am going to modify this goal going forward - I don't think using all of my full size fragrances each month is a realistic goal. I am going to set a new goal of using ~6 of them each month, and see if that is more achievable for me.
- scented candles (all)
goal: light a scented candle at least 1x each week
update: lit one or more candles 1-2x or more each week! July's candles in rotation included DW Home Firefly & Meadow, NEST New York Rose Noir & Oud Candle 2oz/57g & NEST New York Grapefruit Votive Candle 2.1oz/ 57g . Candle burning has been going very well; I am happy with my progress with this goal, and have been enjoying lighting candles more regularly. I hope to continue this progress in August & the coming months!
Nails items & goals
Overall, this was a good month for my nail goals, as I was able to exceed my goal for monthly manis!
- nail polishes, press ons & nail art supplies (all)
goal: do at least one mani every month
update: did 3 manis (+ 1 pedi) in July! Very happy with this.
Still working on the Seche Vite top coat; I do use it every time I polish my nails, but I think it's going to take me a while to finish that one.
That's all I have to report for July's project pan progress! Overall, I think I did pretty well in most areas, and I hope to continue this positive progress in August, while also picking up the slack with items that didn't see much progress in July. Thanks as always to everyone participating in this challenge thread for the support & encouragement! 💜
@caitbird whoa you have done phenomenal work! I love love love those eye looks you did!
@Samtian thanks so much! I definitely had fun with those eye looks!
@caitbird Phenomenal progress!! I had some of those mini cosrx toners too which I finished earlier this year - they were pretty good from what I remember! Can’t wait to see how you fare in August with all this July momentum!
Wow @caitbird, marvelous work on your skincare items - 4 this month, woohoo!!! 🙌 That's impressive! That Glow Recipe jar packs in a lot of product so it's no small feat to work your way through that one. All of them really. The Solved Skincare looks good - have you tried anything from them before this oil?
@itsfi thank you so much! Yes, the Glow Recipe (or all of them really) felt like it took forever lol 😅 This is my first product I've tried from Solved Skincare. It is a nice basic/pure skincare oil but idk if I love it enough to repurchase. I have some other oils to try next to see which I like best 🤔
July Check-In
MONTHLY SUMMARY: We’re making good progress on most of the items in my pan it! challenge, both the products I started the year with and the ones that have been subbed in as I’ve finished items. The only product I haven't used at all this month 😬 is the YSL eyeshadow quad but I have good reason for that - I was focusing hard on one of the eyeshadows from ND Biba palette and I’ll just say this - it paid off; I have some good news to share. *squee 😍
JULY ALL STARS: I haven't hit full pan on all the products in my original pan it! line up for the year, but I'm happy to share that some are very close, and one I am thrilled to say is DONE. 🙌
NEXT MONTH’S FOCUS: I've been trying not to lose sight of the shadows in the ND Biba palette, and, as a result, I didn't really reach for the YSL Stora Dolls quad very much, or at all really. Sorry @blackkitty2014, I'm not off to a great start with that one. I'm going to try to include the YSL eyeshadow quad more regularly in my weekly Capsule Makeup Collection Challenge starting next week. Or, well, that’s the plan, at least. 🤞
I have just the teensiest bit of product to use up before that second to last lip shade is done! 😍 Trying to decide how hard I want to make a push for finishing off the entirety of the Westman Atelier Lip Suede Lipstick Palette Les Nudes. I mean, I’m halfway there. Who'd've thought I come this close to panning a lip palette? Not I. 😂
Off to a good start with these two new items to the pan it! challenge. The Ceremonia Guava Hydrating Leave-In Conditioner 6.7 oz / 200 mL is a loved item and I don’t foresee any issues with using it regularly. The shu uemura Essence Absolue Nourishing Protective Hair Oil is nice but I know I will have to put in some effort to focus on reaching for it. Don't get me wrong, it’s good; I just really liked the Oribe Nourishing oil and there are a few other hair oils I have my eye on. Just gotta focus!!
These new additions to the pan it! lineup are coming along. I am rotating through a couple other body oils and lotions while I'm working on panning the Osea Undaria Algae Body Oil and the Osea Anti-Aging Body Balm so it may take a little longer to get some traction on these two. Both are lovely - absorb easily, moisturizing and have a subtle, but lovely scent.
The U Beauty The Super Tinted Hydrator is a wonderful skin tint. Even though it doesn't look like it from the photo, that is some nice progress. I'll plan to use it at least once per week, either as a primer for a gorgeous glow to the skin or as my base (though I'll need some concealer as it is on the sheer coverage side).
My slow-and-steady-wins-the-race pan products keep pushing on. Keeping the Cuccio Naturale Revitalizing-Hydrating Oil For Repaired Cuticles Overnight (Milk and Honey) on my nightstand has been paying off and I'll continue to keep the bottle there. Progress on the OLEHENRIKSEN Wrinkle Blur™ Bakuchiol Eye Gel Crème 0.5 oz/ 15 mL was at a slower clip than usual since I was reaching for another eye cream a little more often this month; I still think I will be able to finish off this OH eye gel-cream by the end of the year, if not before.
And, looky what we have here, folks!
Full pan on the shine shadow from the Natasha Denona Biba Eyeshadow Palette - yesssss!!! I’m super happy.
And am even more motivated now to hit pan on the prairie shade and to try to finish off the rustic shade. 🤞
@itsfi Did I blink and miss where the rest of that WA went? WOOOO bye bye Shine!! So close to being done with it! So exciting!
lol, this Westman Atelier lip palette has been such an interesting item to pan @Samtian - it's definitely falls in the camp of "takes a while to hit pan but once you do, it's easier to expand the pan" 😅 I hit pan on the 2nd shade in early May and then this was July with pretty much all of the 3rd shade. I've surprised myself with how much I like this palette and the remaining shades. 😀
@itsfi so much progress! I feel so invested in the Biba progress at this point, its almost as if I’m the one doing it 😂
I love that @cianni!! 🥰 It’s really been so great having the support, having people invested and on this journey with me. That’s meant so much. We’re almost there!!
@itsfi I'm so proud of you for that eyeshadow pan!!!!! You've worked SO hard on that palette 👏.
@CookieGirl1, thank you!!! It's really been a journey, with so many good lessons learned. Working on panning this palette has been eye opening - there's a lot of product packed into ND shadows, for one. How long it takes to finish a shadow - and that has been a huge factor in my being a lot more mindful and deliberate when it comes to picking up other eye shadow palettes, and other products as well, primarily powder products. I'm always so impressed with the dedication you put into finishing your bronzers and powders - there's a lot of products in those items!
@itsfi I don't see myself ever panning an eyeshadow but who knows...
@itsfi wow, excellent progress! 🎉 Great job! You've made some amazing progress with that WA lip palette, and of course ND Biba! And I can sooo relate to "slow and steady wins the race" when it comes to panning items 😅. I have learned that, happily, even when it doesn't seem like I am making much progress for the longest time, it still adds up and is worth it in the end!
@caitbird, I've found that the products where you just put your head down and reach for consistently are the ones that will surprise you - just keep at it and one day, bam! you'll see pan! And, usually, the hardest part is hitting that first bit of pan; it'll start expanding and you'll see more and more pan. So satisfying. 100 agree, completely worth it in the end. We got this!
