Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

Welcome to Year 7 of our Pan It! Challenge ElleElleG_0-1704168084184.gif

ElleElleG_9-1704168647118.jpeg

The "Rules"

To accommodate a variety of interests, you all are encouraged to pick items to pan that are most suitable to your collections.  For some, this might mean focusing on a particular type of product (like lipstick) and for others this may include a larger variety spanning your entire makeup or skincare routine.

Getting Started (please share the following)

  • Which item(s) you would like to work on
  • How long you will work on said item
  • Goal: explore a new item, revisit an old item, decide whether to keep pass or trash, and/or completely finish item, etc.
  • Starting photo of item

Please Use This Thread To...

  • share what item(s) you are working on,
  • provide comparative progress photos of your item(s) monthly (at the beginning of the month when possible),
  • ask questions,
  • encourage others,
  • motivate others with the looks you create with your item(s)

Tips and Tricks to Panning/Getting Some Use Out of Your Stash:

Spoiler
  • Take photos!!  When you think you arenโ€™t making a dent in anything look back at those photos, Iโ€™m certain youโ€™ll see some changes ๐Ÿ˜ƒ *this is the number one recommendation for everyone, regardless of how long youโ€™ve been panning! Those photos add up and can help you realize progress you might otherwise overlook.
  • If you goal is to hit pan or use something up entirely, try concentrating your brush/applicator in the same area each time you use it
  • Multitask your products: eyeshadows as highlighter, lipstick as blush, eyeshadow as brow powder, etc.
  • Layer eyeshadow to create different colors (this is especially helpful to get use out of shades youโ€™re not fond of).
  • Have shadows with a ton of fall out?  Use water
  • Watching the progress of othersโ€™ can be fun but try not compare your progress to theirs.  We all use our makeup differently and have different goals.
  • Donโ€™t restrict yourself to only using the item(s) you are working on.  Itโ€™s more than OK to incorporate other items or take a break!
  • Makeup should be funโ€ฆ.if you begin to dread doing your makeup because you made a commitment to use a product that you now hate, TOSS IT!  Do not force yourself to use up something you donโ€™t like.  Move on to something else!  (This includes excluding particular shades from your goals if focusing on palettes, etc.)

Ideas to Help You Pan Those Items:

Spoiler
  • Roll the dice: number your items and use a random number generator to pick what you will use each (day/week/month/etc.)
  • Layer/Mask: items you are less fond of under things you like
  • Pan a Look: at the beginning of the week pick a look that you can wear everyday
  • Recreate: a look worn by a fellow BICer, celebrity, etc.
  • Spice up an "everyday" look by adding subtle pops of color (in the crease or on the lower lash line, mix lip products to make shades wearable, etc.)

Re: Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

3X a week is great @faeriegirl some weeks I don't even wear makeup 3X. You'll do awesome this month.

Re: Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

I think 3x a week is very steady, don't be too hard on yourself. ๐Ÿฉท Keep it up, you got this!

Re: Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

At least 3x per week is great @faeriegirl! It's surprising how quickly we can go through product if we're consistent and you have been!

Re: Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

@faeriegirl Any use is better than none!!  You'll ge there!

Re: Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

Re: Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

January Update

Monthly Summary: I was able to use every product at least once per week this month, and a few items with even more frequency. ๐Ÿ˜Š

January All Star(s): Westman Atelier Lip Suede Lipstick Palette Les Nudes - that second shade has been working well as a de facto lip primer.

Next Monthโ€™s Focus: Iโ€™m not sure about the Fable & Mane HoliRootsโ„ข Pre-Wash Scalp & Hair Treatment Oil. I think Iโ€™m using too much. Am going to play around with the dosage in February. For those who incorporate this (or any pre-wash hair oil, for that matter) in your regular hair care routine, any tips & tricks?

The key for these two will definitely be finding a good routine for them. The key for these two will definitely be finding a good routine for them.

Really enjoying these items. The Hanni mist is great for hydration right out of the shower.Really enjoying these items. The Hanni mist is great for hydration right out of the shower.

This supports the theory that it may take time to hit pan but that once you do, expanding that pan comes at a lot quicker clip. This supports the theory that it may take time to hit pan but that once you do, expanding that pan comes at a lot quicker clip.

Going to take inspiration from the Little Engine That Could with the shades prairie and tone - "I think I can, I think I can!" And there we have it - one month down, 11 to go. We got this, panning pals! ๐Ÿ‘Š

Re: Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

@itsfi  Oh I admire your dedication ๐Ÿ˜€.  My hair is changing as I age.  My scalp is still oily enough and I tried Fable and Mane also. I didnโ€™t like it. My hair felt to oily.  And itโ€™s hard to wash it out.  I tried it on my ends but I didnโ€™t care for it at all.  Maybe I am too heavy handed using too much.  I try these hair oils hoping one will be right for me.  So far Iโ€™ve only been able to use a small amount of Verb Ghost hair oil on my ends after blow drying.

Re: Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

Awww, thanks so much @Cissy63! Yeah, I hear ya; I had a very similar initial experience with the Fable & Mane Mini HoliRootsโ„ข Pre-Wash Treatment Oil for Thinning Hair 0.48/14.4ml After discussing here with @Mellmars1185 and @missjeanie, and after a couple of test runs, I think Iโ€™ve found what works for my hair with this pre-wash treatment -

  • 1/2 - 1 dropper of product, but instead of applying it directly to my scalp, I apply it to the pads of my fingertips; warm it up and then massage it onto my scalp and ends.
  • Put my hair up and then do something for 1-3 hours - run errands, chores, gym, read, facial, do my nails, watch a movie, some combination of the above.

  • Rinse the Fable & Mane with a clarifying or detox shampoo. Itโ€™s worked well for me with OUAI Detox Clarifying Shampoo with Apple Cider Vinegar
  • OR rinse out with my regular shampoo with a scalp massage tool like BREAD BEAUTY SUPPLY Scalp-Thingy: Scalp Massager

This has worked for me - my hair feels soft and light. Thereโ€™s no film, residue or greasy or oily feeling. And the product is out of my hair after shampooing. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ My preference is to keep it in my hair for 60-90 minutes but Iโ€™ve kept it in longer and itโ€™s been okay. I havenโ€™t tried it leaving it in my hair overnight again, even with the reduced amount of product.

Maybe try changing up the amount of product you use and the length of time left in your hair. Highly recommend rinsing it out with a clarifying pr detox shampoo. Thatโ€™s worked beautifully for me. If you come up with a good approach for it, please do let us know. This one took some work to figure out how to best use it for my hair and scalp type.

Re: Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

@itsfi Thank you!  I'm going to give this a try.  I have the Ouai clarifying shampoo so I'll try it with that.  I was confused at Virtual Sephoria when the owners were explaining how to use it.

Re: Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

@Cissy63, my hairstylist told me he leaves it on overnight. I tried that and nope, not for me or my fine hair. Iโ€™m wondering if leaving it on overnight works better for folks with thicker hair and/or drier scalp. In any event, definitely try rinsing it out with a detox shampoo. Thatโ€™s worked wonders!

Re: Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

@itsfi I am happy you were able to make it work for you! It sounds like you have some great habit stacking going on! Ok, that scalp thingy is too cute!!  @Cissy63 - I would love to hear if any of the techniques mentioned work for you. @missjeanie and itsfi have some great suggestions.

Re: Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

Lol, I feel like I accomplished something with โ€œhabit stackingโ€ @Mellmars1185! Iโ€™m so glad folks here mentioned using a detox shampoo. Goes to show again how great this Community is and how there are such tips & tricks from folks here. I probably would have just given up on the Fable & Mane otherwise. omg, the scalp thingy is adorbs. I confess I purchased it for how cute it looked and that it was named โ€œthingyโ€. Even more cuteness! ๐Ÿ˜Š

Re: Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

@Mellmars1185  Yes!  I'm going to give it a try.  I have the Briogeo scalp Thingy ๐Ÿ™‚

Re: Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

@Mellmars1185 Habit Stacking... I'm going to steal that!!

Re: Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

@missjeanie @Mellmars1185, maybe itโ€™s because itโ€™s Girl Scouts Cookie season but I feel like โ€œhabit stackingโ€ is something one can earn a merit badge for. ๐Ÿ˜†
