Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

Welcome to Year 7 of our Pan It! Challenge ElleElleG_0-1704168084184.gif

ElleElleG_9-1704168647118.jpeg

The "Rules"

To accommodate a variety of interests, you all are encouraged to pick items to pan that are most suitable to your collections.  For some, this might mean focusing on a particular type of product (like lipstick) and for others this may include a larger variety spanning your entire makeup or skincare routine.

Getting Started (please share the following)

  • Which item(s) you would like to work on
  • How long you will work on said item
  • Goal: explore a new item, revisit an old item, decide whether to keep pass or trash, and/or completely finish item, etc.
  • Starting photo of item

Please Use This Thread To...

  • share what item(s) you are working on,
  • provide comparative progress photos of your item(s) monthly (at the beginning of the month when possible),
  • ask questions,
  • encourage others,
  • motivate others with the looks you create with your item(s)

Tips and Tricks to Panning/Getting Some Use Out of Your Stash:

Spoiler
  • Take photos!!  When you think you aren’t making a dent in anything look back at those photos, I’m certain you’ll see some changes 😃 *this is the number one recommendation for everyone, regardless of how long you’ve been panning! Those photos add up and can help you realize progress you might otherwise overlook.
  • If you goal is to hit pan or use something up entirely, try concentrating your brush/applicator in the same area each time you use it
  • Multitask your products: eyeshadows as highlighter, lipstick as blush, eyeshadow as brow powder, etc.
  • Layer eyeshadow to create different colors (this is especially helpful to get use out of shades you’re not fond of).
  • Have shadows with a ton of fall out?  Use water
  • Watching the progress of others’ can be fun but try not compare your progress to theirs.  We all use our makeup differently and have different goals.
  • Don’t restrict yourself to only using the item(s) you are working on.  It’s more than OK to incorporate other items or take a break!
  • Makeup should be fun….if you begin to dread doing your makeup because you made a commitment to use a product that you now hate, TOSS IT!  Do not force yourself to use up something you don’t like.  Move on to something else!  (This includes excluding particular shades from your goals if focusing on palettes, etc.)

Ideas to Help You Pan Those Items:

Spoiler
  • Roll the dice: number your items and use a random number generator to pick what you will use each (day/week/month/etc.)
  • Layer/Mask: items you are less fond of under things you like
  • Pan a Look: at the beginning of the week pick a look that you can wear everyday
  • Recreate: a look worn by a fellow BICer, celebrity, etc.
  • Spice up an "everyday" look by adding subtle pops of color (in the crease or on the lower lash line, mix lip products to make shades wearable, etc.)

Pan It! - 2022 Challenge

Re: Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

That was important @AznAngelLiz. If it felt too much like a chore, I wouldn't be into it at all. 😅 I would get pretty discouraged. I was hoping this mix would be fun too reach for for the most part. Thank you!

Re: Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

@CynthieLu Any thoughts on the Bioderma Mask?  I've loved so many of their products in the past and have been curious about this one.  Good luck this year!

Re: Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

I have a bunch of Bioderma that I love too @missjeanie but for me, the mask dosen't perform any better then thier regular moisturizers.

I thought maybe the weather isn't dry enough yet for it really show how good it is. But Il right now I'm just using it to finish it off.

Re: Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

Good luck @CynthieLu!

Re: Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

Thank you kindly @faeriegirl 😊

Re: Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

Good luck!! @CynthieLu I'm doing the same thing, if I finish something, im replacing it 🙌

Re: Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

I think you've got a solid approach @lmaster. To much at once is just too overwhelming for me. 😉 I'll add as I go along too and hopefully it'll be a better attempt than I had last year. Lol. 😅

Re: Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

Same girl same!! 🤣 @CynthieLu anxiety!!

Re: Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

@CynthieLu, I spy some wonderful skincare and lip items in your pan it! lineup that’ll make for some great pampering as you work through them.

Re: Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

I'm hopefully going to take pictures of the bottles of oil's from Sunday Riley, and my Glow Recipie Toner. To help track the use from month to month. I've been following this thread a long time, I know that can be encouraging. 😉

All 3 have been opened almost a year now so I've really got to commit and use. @itsfi  thank you!!

Re: Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

@CynthieLu, monthly tracking does come in handy. I don’t always post or talk about all the products in my pan project every month but I track the progress monthly. It helps to not only see how panning is going but what I’m reaching for or not reaching for. It’ll be great to hear what you learn about your product use.

Re: Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

@CynthieLu Great plan! Can't wait to see your progress.

Re: Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

Thank you very much @Samtian I hope this year we all hit our goals and make good progress on our pans. 💜 I love how supportive this thread is. 💜

Re: Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

OK giving this project pan another go, hoping to stick it out through the year or at least finish a few of these items.

Peter Thomas Roth Max Matte SPF - I am sure I can finish this before the year’s over. Been wanting to try a new SPF but I won’t until this is done.

IMG_7748.jpeg

PATRICK TA Major Volume Plumping Lip Gloss Full Syringe - More than half-way done and it’s only been a year or so? LOL. I don’t even remember when this came out.

IMG_7769.jpeg

Gucci Gucci Matte Primer 1 oz / 30 ml - I’m so close to being done with this and while I do love it, I want to try something new.

IMG_7773.jpeg

Il Makiage foundation - I really ended up liking this foundation and it’s in my regular rotation but I don’t think I’ll be repurchasing once I’m done, only because I have many more I want to try.

IMG_7775.jpeg

NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer with Medium Coverage and Lancôme Care and Glow Serum Concealer with Hyaluronic Acid 230W - I use the Nars one as an eye primer and the Lancôme one for the under eye. Love them both and will most likely repurchase when done

IMG_7774.jpeg

Too Faced Chocolate Soleil Matte Bronzer (OLD version) and LYS Beauty No Limits Matte Bronzer Motivate - I think I had the Too Faced bronzer in a project pan a couple years ago, or maybe it was last year? Anywho, I’m almost done and will be panning the LYS one afterwards

IMG_7772.jpeg

Laura Mercier Matte Radiance Baked Powder Compact Highlight 01 and Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Setting Powder Translucent - both of these are regular and repurchases. I’m pretty confident I can get through the powder this year…hoping to make a small dent in the highlighter

IMG_7776.jpeg

…and lastly, NATASHA DENONA Mini Biba Eyeshadow Palette - I love this one for my everyday look, and I’m hoping to hit pan on at least one shade this year

IMG_7777.jpeg

Oops, I lied…LAST one is Marc Jacobs Daisy Twinkle. You know it’s old when you can’t tag the product anymore 😭

IMG_7779.jpeg

Re: Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

That Daisy bottle is so pretty!! @AznAngelLiz

Re: Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

I agree @lmaster I have a couple other Daisy bottles this one will sit next too when it's done.

Re: Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

@AznAngelLiz Great choices looking forward to your progress!

Re: Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

Thank you @BluePaisley I have the items out in easy to reach places so I know I will use them.

Re: Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

@AznAngelLiz, wow! I love that you work through your products. going through powder products like bronzer takes time and wow, look at that Too Faced. Love that you are bringing in the LYS when you are finished. And, oooooh, mini Biba. It’ll be great to see your progress with it. 😍 Like @Samtian, I’m excited to see which shade you pan first,

Great to know you like the Il Makiage foundation. It’s one that has been on my list for a while. I just get distracted by other things, including other foundations in my collection.

Re: Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

I agree about getting distracted by other foundations @itsfi but I lost the majority of my foundations in my move in July so Il Makiage was just one of the 4 I still have and I can't bring myself to buy new ones until at least this one is done.

I almost want to say I'm going to hit pan on the shimmery shade in mini Biba but that second shade from the left is getting a lot of attention recently LOL

Re: Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

Love that you are committed to working through Il Makiage @AznAngelLiz! That's awesome that there are multiple shadows in the mini Biba. I'm super excited to see your progress.
