Pan It! - 2023 Challenge

Hey all you cool cats and kittens, welcome to YEAR 6 of the Pan It Challenge!

ElleElleG_1-1672620471899.gif

The "Rules"

To accommodate a variety of interests, you all are encouraged to pick items to pan that are most suitable to your collections.  For some, this might mean focusing on a particular type of product (like lipstick) and for others this may include a larger variety spanning your entire makeup or skincare routine.

Getting Started (please share the following)

  • Which item(s) you would like to work on
  • How long you will work on said item
  • Goal: explore a new item, revisit an old item, decide whether to keep pass or trash, and/or completely finish item, etc.
  • Starting photo of item

Please Use This Thread To...

  • share what item(s) you are working on,
  • provide comparative progress photos of your item(s) monthly (at the beginning of the month when possible),
  • ask questions,
  • encourage others,
  • motivate others with the looks you create with your item(s)

Tips and Tricks to Panning/Getting Some Use Out of Your Stash:

Spoiler
  • Take photos!!  When you think you arenโ€™t making a dent in anything look back at those photos, Iโ€™m certain youโ€™ll see some changes ๐Ÿ˜ƒ *this is the number one recommendation for everyone, regardless of how long youโ€™ve been panning! Those photos add up and can help you realize progress you might otherwise overlook.
  • If you goal is to hit pan or use something up entirely, try concentrating your brush/applicator in the same area each time you use it
  • Multitask your products: eyeshadows as highlighter, lipstick as blush, eyeshadow as brow powder, etc.
  • Layer eyeshadow to create different colors (this is especially helpful to get use out of shades youโ€™re not fond of).
  • Have shadows with a ton of fall out?  Use water
  • Watching the progress of othersโ€™ can be fun but try not compare your progress to theirs.  We all use our makeup differently and have different goals.
  • Donโ€™t restrict yourself to only using the item(s) you are working on.  Itโ€™s more than OK to incorporate other items or take a break!
  • Makeup should be funโ€ฆ.if you begin to dread doing your makeup because you made a commitment to use a product that you now hate, TOSS IT!  Do not force yourself to use up something you donโ€™t like.  Move on to something else!  (This includes excluding particular shades from your goals if focusing on palettes, etc.)

Ideas to Help You Pan Those Items:

Spoiler
  • Roll the dice: number your items and use a random number generator to pick what you will use each (day/week/month/etc.)
  • Layer/Mask: items you are less fond of under things you like
  • Pan a Look: at the beginning of the week pick a look that you can wear everyday
  • Recreate: a look worn by a fellow BICer, celebrity, etc.
  • Spice up an "everyday" look by adding subtle pops of color (in the crease or on the lower lash line, mix lip products to make shades wearable, etc.)

Past Panning Challenges:

Re: Pan It! - 2023 Challenge

Another one worth to mention is this Hourglass face palette ๐Ÿ˜˜ I started using this from Dec 2022. Need to pan the bronzer and 1 bluish shade but it will be tough ๐Ÿ˜˜

Re: Pan It! - 2023 Challenge

@blackkitty2014 Great work!  When you pick an Hourglass powder product to pan, you are definitely in it for the long haul.

Re: Pan It! - 2023 Challenge

Thx you @mishanyc @Samtian Iโ€™m surprised that tiny amount of powder does last a long time. I pan liked half of the product in the powder pan so it probably takes me at least 8-9 months to finish every bit of the powder. Probably takes me 2 yrs for the blushers lol. ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿคฃ

Re: Pan It! - 2023 Challenge

@blackkitty2014 I just had to do a double take. I was like Dec 22 ok so a while ago (thinking 2021), and I was like wait a second ๐Ÿ˜ฎ that is some fast panning!!! I really love the bottom pattern of them lol.

Re: Pan It! - 2023 Challenge

@blackkitty2014 Wow!  Those hourglass palettes are a looooooong panning project!  Way to go!

Re: Pan It! - 2023 Challenge

Thx you @missjeanie ๐ŸŒน๐Ÿ˜˜

Re: Pan It! - 2023 Challenge

Wowza @blackkitty2014! So glad you posted this! So much pan. And more to come - I have complete faith in you. Youโ€™ll hit pan on the bronzer and a blush! Itโ€™s just a question of when. ๐Ÿ˜Š

Re: Pan It! - 2023 Challenge

Thx you @itsfi . The darn bronzer seems last forever ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿคฃ

Re: Pan It! - 2023 Challenge

@blackkitty2014 good luck!! It looks like you've made some major progress on other shades in the palette

Re: Pan It! - 2023 Challenge

Thx you @lmaster ๐ŸŒน

Re: Pan It! - 2023 Challenge

Okie friends, time to report back my progress of first 4 months of 2023.

Lipsticks: I have to part to that TF one. It went rancid. I need another week or so for the PMG balm but just want to include it here so I wonโ€™t have to take a separate picture next week ๐Ÿ˜˜

โ€˜Disclaimer: took me about 5 months to finish the Supergoop glow (beginning of Jan) but takes me liked 3 months to finish the matte formula ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ Theyโ€™ve both same size so I donโ€™t quite understand why such a big difference in time frame

Re: Pan It! - 2023 Challenge

@blackkitty2014 Are all the products in the second two photos empties? If so great job, amazing! Sorry about the lipstick going off.

Re: Pan It! - 2023 Challenge

@blackkitty2014 Fantastic work! Sorry about the Tom Ford.

Re: Pan It! - 2023 Challenge

@blackkitty2014, thatโ€™s too bad about the Tom Ford lipstick - itโ€™s such a pretty color! Awesome work on the Chanel No 1 foundation and Armani concealer! โ™ฅ๏ธ

Re: Pan It! - 2023 Challenge

You got this!! @blackkitty2014

Re: Pan It! - 2023 Challenge

Apologies in advance for the lack of updates on my pan project. Long story short, I didn't wear makeup for 3.5 months (Jan-Mar) so I pushed my goal deadlines for panning by 3.5months.

Charlotte Tilbury Magic Vanish Color Corrector Medium I hit another pan! And there is a dip on the left side that I'm working on. Instead of by March 2023, I'll aim to finish this by July/August 2023.

The blush stick (I strongly dislike it so I won't tag it) is slower in terms of progress, I aim to finish it by August 2023.

I'm literally scraping the LYS Beauty Triple Fix Brightening Concealer for more product, so that will be done within 1-2 weeks. I finished that horrible lawless setting powder (once the reviews option comes back I will happily give it & the blush stick a 1 star) and replaced it with another powder (I'll make a post on it in the April haul thread).

Once I finish these two products then I'll act another 2 products to work on panning.

Re: Pan It! - 2023 Challenge

@Nahnom Great job! Do you have a different blush you can switch too if you want? I've had others mention to me don't hang on to what you hate, let it go and don't waste that time you could have spent on something you love. It's really helped me a lot.

Re: Pan It! - 2023 Challenge

Thank you @Samtian I personally use up all my products and get my money's worth (I've been called a penny-pincher many times ๐Ÿ˜…!). I personally strongly dislike it when I have to throw out a product, so I only throw a product when it's gone bad. As I'm not getting constant acne breakouts from this (just occasional ones if I use it in certain areas) and it doesn't look/smell/feel expired/off, then I'll try to use it up .

And then I'll happily try out a blush in a color and format I like - I'm super interested in a purple/plum/berry cream non-stick! Let me know if you have any recommendations! ๐Ÿค—

Re: Pan It! - 2023 Challenge

@Nahnom Great plan! As for the blushes those are all colors I avoid ๐Ÿ˜…

Re: Pan It! - 2023 Challenge

Excellent progress @Nahnom
