Is a primer really necessary?

At 50+ find it's important to be careful of too much layers of make up because it settles into lines or cakes or flakes. So my question is this: is a face primer and eye primer really necessary?

I do a “hybrid” primer because of the varying issues with my mature skin, and I definitely think it varies person to person…I am certainly no expert!  For me what works is to use

a touch of Saie Glowy Super Gel Lightweight Dewy Multipurpose Illuminator  often mixed in with my moisturizer, followed by MILK MAKEUP Hydro Grip Hydrating Makeup Primer with Hyaluronic Acid + Niacinamide  on my nose, chin, and smile lines, and Tatcha The Silk Canvas Protective Primer  on sides of my nose, forehead

It may seem like a lot of steps, but it really takes no time and for my skin, it works

Oooh, ok, bespoke primer @AgingOutLoud !

@ReallyChar , you do what suits your skin.  But, the better your skincare prep is, usually the better your base/complexion lays.  The primer can fit nicely, like @SportyGirly125 to extend wear and like @AgingOutLoud noted, you can also just apply it in specific ways.  During the summer, I use Danessa Myricks Beauty Yummy Skin Mattifying Water Powder Serum with Niacinamide and Hyaluronic Acid 1.01 oz / 30 ml  as a primer in areas where oil will cause separation, usually folds (nose, laugh lines) and not on my cheeks/chin.

Eye primer - depends on the eyeshadow, lid/skin type IMO.  For example, I use primer when I'm wearing just winged liner so the liner sets, otherwise it'll transfer to my lid.  For things that are eye paints, I don't need them if there are silicones in the paint.

@ReallyChar @It really depends on your skin type. If you are oily or combo an eye or face primer can help to make the makeup last longer.
