allergic to basically all lipstick... any brand suggestions?

Hi everyone! So when I was in college, I out of nowhere became extremely allergic to all lipsticks. It felt like one day I could wear anything, and the next every single lipstick in my drawer would cause my lips to flake, itch, burn and scale. Specifically, I noticed that the skin directly around my lip line would become so itchy in the days after I wore lipstick. It's to the point where I can only use Vaseline, and if I do choose to wear lipstick, I will be paying for it days later. I have tried a lot of different brands and found a few sheer-tinted balms and stains that are okay (benefit cheek & lip stain is an example), but no options for a rich, deep color like traditional lipstick. Unfortunately, I have no idea what I am allergic to, but considering I have oral allergy syndrome (sensitivity to raw fruits and vegetables) and have had bad reactions to wool clothing (lanolin), I'm thinking those are good ingredients to avoid. If anybody has any idea about what brands to try, I would really appreciate it!

Hi,

I recently noticed I started getting an allergic reaction to something too 😞 Lanolin also doesn't work for me...  I think i figured out the most recent culprit: castor oil! I also try avoiding mineral/petrolatum too cuz it doesn't do anything for me (and fragrance can be an irritant). Perhaps try cutting out products that have those ingredients?

The most recent lipstick I bought was Charlotte Tilbury (The Queen) and i have no experienced any dryness or irritation. Earlier this week, I went back to using my Bite Amuse Bouche lipstick after my lips had been fully healed for a few weeks..then in the evening, i noticed a small rash on the top lip and skin kept peeling and feeling tight... I think i have to give up my beloved Bite lipsticks now...

Hope you find something you like, feel better

Hi!

I have a friend who gets cold sores with most kinds of lipstick/gloss. It's not the same issue, obviously, but the reason I mention it is that I bought her a set of mini bite lip glosses and she said that they don't bother her lips at all.

Bite is an expensive brand, but if you stop in to your local sephora, they could get you a sample before you buy. I LOVE their lip balm. It's fantastic.

Good luck finding something that works for you!

I had a problem with my lips doing the same thing, but I after I threw out all my lipsticks and started over since I thought they could be old, I focused on my toothpaste.  For me anyway, I switched to a brand that has no Sodium laureth sulfate in it and it has made all the difference.  You may want to try that to see if it helps.  I use JASON brand and you can usually find it in local whole food markets.  As for lipsticks, I stick with Avon and I love it.
