Sephora Six: Back to Basics

I love a full glam face, but let's be honest, I'm not whipping that out everyday 😅

Also, kind of wanted a think tank, because there's been uptick in new to makeup posts... I loved @PDXXXX responses to a few of them

Might be helpful to give six (because that's the theme, but y'know y'all can cheat be creative with that number) products and also list

Skin type

Fave feature to play up

Tools of choice

Example

...

For myself:

Oily Combo Skin

Eyes or lips

Brushes, fingers

Foundation: DIOR Forever Glow Star Filter Multi-Use Complexion Enhancing Booster or Ami Colé Skin-Enhancing Lightweight & Blurring Foundation Stick

Eyes: Danessa Myricks Beauty Linework Paintbrush Fluid Liquid Eyeliner 0.034 oz / 1 ml

Lip: I'll go 90s liner and gloss or deeeeep

DIOR Rouge Dior Contour No-Transfer Lip Liner Pencil(Diormidnight) CLINIQUE Pop Plush™ Creamy Lip Gloss Black Honey Pop 🤌🏽🤌🏽

Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz® Ultra-Slim Precision Eyebrow Pencil Medium Brownfor brows

Setting Spray: Skindinavia or ONE/SIZE by Patrick Starrr Preserve the Serve Luminous Setting Spray 4 oz/ 118 mL (there's a jumbo out now 😲)

I'll usually do my brows while I'm doing my skincare because I look unfinished without them 😅, the Danessa liner I love because I can go so thin, and my lashes are straight, so it gives the illusion of mascara and I can do a little flick to emphasize my eye shape

The Star filter gives a glow and coverage, and the Ami stick is fast.  I like applying from the back of my hand with dots to the face and then buffing out with a brush.  Then I'll hit it with some setting spray.

The lip, I contour a bit, with thickest lines at the edges, and then it's buffed out inward for a nice ombre look.  Then gloss.  If I'm not feeling up to it, gloss just goes on or I'll use CLINIQUE Almost Lipstick Black Honey instead

When I'm done, another hit of spray.

...

You can include your skincare routine if you like, which gives you another six, but emphasize how you prep for makeup vs general routine, if you can

Re: Sephora Six: Back to Basics

My 6 today were really inspired by the Mom's I'm seeing asking for quick looks and the need to makeup in a hurry in general or just do quick low key no makeup makeup in a hurry, my own rush being putting on a quick face to walk the dogs. This one also could fall under @danielledanielle's Sephora Six - Fast & Furious Edition or The Fit, The Fab and The Face: Outfit and Inspo Thread as I am wearing a leather jacket to make up for the fact that other than switching into my Nikes I'm wearing what I slept in here. Just a look for rushing to do errands, while juggling everything else:

IMG_8035.jpeg

I have dry, mature skin and do what I can not to irritate it or make it any redder, like to accentuate my cheekbones or do anything to "lift" things as I'm in my mid-40's, and for a quick look want products that will all easily blend with fingertips or brushes.

1. I like to start with a lightly tinted, sheer moisturizer with SPF (I used Paula's Choice RESIST Super-Light Daily Wrinkle Defense SPF 30) so I can combine SPF, and get a bit of color correction that blends in VERY quickly with fingers and skip primer on skin prepped with all my basics,

2. since that's rather sheer, I then like to go in with a creamy, medium to full coverage concealer closer to rather than lighter than my skin tone (I used Lancôme Care and Glow Serum Concealer with Hyaluronic Acid) under eyes, around the nose and forehead blending with fingers,

3. I then set with a translucent powder (in this case Hourglass Mini Veil™ Translucent Setting Powder - Talc Free Mini Size Translucent - .07 oz ),

4. To lightly sculpt and add color I then use a powder bronzer on my cheeks, forehead and to define my outer eyes and crease (I use the Jones Road Bronzer),

5. I then try to lift and add dimension by using a powder highlighter like Charlotte Tilbury Glow Glide Face Architect Highlighter Champagne Glow on my upper/outer cheekbones and from my inner eye to the bronzer I've used on my eyes,

6. And finish with mascara ( #Wander Beauty Mile High Club™ Length and Define Mascara Jet Black  is one of my favorites)

And that's it. Well, that and the leather jacket to make me look I didn't even want to invest the time to change my clothes 😂

Re: Sephora Six: Back to Basics

@PDXXXX I would not have pegged as being in your 40s. Your skin looks AMAZING! 🤩

Re: Sephora Six: Back to Basics

@JoSometimes you are the sweetest. It takes a village, lol. If only I had started wearing sunscreen in my 20's. I had horrid cystic acne when I was younger and still always feel like I still do so your compliment is lovely ❤️

Re: Sephora Six: Back to Basics

@PDXXXX, It's finally fall-ish in the NE, so a leather jacket is just a necessity, especially a biker\moto one!  I love a good moto jacket, you look sooooo good!

Ooooh, haven't tried the Lancôme Care and Glow Serum Concealer with Hyaluronic Acid ...love the foundation sample I tried, this is tempting.

Re: Sephora Six: Back to Basics

@danielledanielle right? I feel like a good jacket is the ultimate hustle for days when you are actually feeling lazy. And in the winter with the right scarf or boot...I die for that.

I had dismissed the Lancome for some reason (probably because the shade is not quite right for me) so was testing to see if I should keep. Now I'm considering buying it in the right color b/c it applied so, so, smooth and blended like butter. I think it's definitely worth checking out!

Re: Sephora Six: Back to Basics

@danielledanielle always making me think.

Skin type- Dehydrated combo.

Fave feature to play up- Eyes

Tools of choice- brushes! Hate using my fingers.

I live for basics, it's pretty much all I do.

Re: Sephora Six: Back to Basics

@Samtian  that highlight brush is so nice, I love the unique shape! I find myself reaching for it a lot.

Re: Sephora Six: Back to Basics

Ooouuu I like the looks of Fenty's Highlight brush @Samtian there's a nice shape to it. 😍

Re: Sephora Six: Back to Basics

@CynthieLu It packs a serious punch!

Re: Sephora Six: Back to Basics

@Samtian  That DR Jart is my go to if I’m experiencing allergies!  it’s so goodly neutralizing redness is hydrating to boot!  I find it very soothing.

Re: Sephora Six: Back to Basics

@heartsmyface It's some good stuff! I'm wondering if it's losing its effectiveness on me. Halfway through the work shift I noticed my face was back to all red.

Re: Sephora Six: Back to Basics

@Samtian  Oh no!  I hope it was just a fluke. It doesn’t stay green on you?  Does it slide off? Or has your face been extra inflamed lately? The drops are more concentrated coverage but they don’t have that same thick and skin smoothing effect.

Re: Sephora Six: Back to Basics

@heartsmyface It seems like it just wears away. But it has been extra cold where I've been working so that could be it too.

Re: Sephora Six: Back to Basics

That HG mascara is sooooo good @Samtian

And I like how you think 🙂😉

Re: Sephora Six: Back to Basics

@danielledanielle Haha thank you! It is good, I'm glad I gave it a second chance.

Re: Sephora Six: Back to Basics

Cold, crisp sweater weather has found its way here. I'm working on making adjustments to my skincare routine and will post that as soon as it's finalized (or as finalized as it will get). For now, here are the current back-to-basics beauties I'm reaching for as far as my makeup goes @danielledanielle.

Sephora Six - Back to Basics.jpg

Skin Type: Normal-to-dry, but it will get more and more dry as we head into the winter months

Fave feature to play up: Lips - this mean my lip product stash and hauls are justified, yes? 😅

Tools of choice: brushes, fingers - and this means my brush purchases are justified, too, right?! 😝

Re: Sephora Six: Back to Basics

@itsfi  how did I know that eyelash curler would be one of your 6 😉 you are seriously inspiring me to try out an eyelash curler for myself one of these days!

It's been interesting to see the rotating cast of product you've included for different capsule challenges, but I was very curious to see which ones would make it into your "Sephora 6" capsule haha!

Re: Sephora Six: Back to Basics

lol @caitbird, an eyelash curler is a MUST for these stick straight lashes - it really is for the greater good that I use one. 😂 Oh my goodness, your lashes look absolutely amazing without a lash curler; I can only imagine what they'd look like if you used one. 😍

I've been gravitating to my stick makeup recently - it's based both from seeing how many makeup sticks I have  and not wanting to have them just sit here in my stash and me not getting to them until they may be past or close to past their prime (and possibly loving it but not realizing it until then). 😬 If I were to be really firm about a basic Sephora 6, it'd probably be a (1) base product, (2) eyelash curler, (3) setting spray, and (4-6) 3 different lip products. Ha! Though knowing me those 3 lippies would probably all from the same color family. 😂🤣😂

Re: Sephora Six: Back to Basics

Basics in Stick form... You know I'm here for that @itsfi

Yes, I love contouring eyes with bronzer! Shadonzer? 😂 They can't all be winners folks

I picked it up from some random IG reel, where the person used it as contour alongside the nose bridge into the crease

Re: Sephora Six: Back to Basics

lol, shadonzer. I don't know why, but I'm having the hardest time saying it @danielledanielle. My brain gets stuck on .. is she going with short a sound, for shădonzer, or with a longer vowel sound, shādonzer? 🤣 Mmmm, maybe bronzow [ bronz - oh ]

Oh, I'm going to have to try the nose bridge to crease contour. I've been meaning to contour my nose bridge more; well, first, we have to start doing it. Then, we can move into needing to do it more. Ha! I'll get there eventually.

Ahhhh, I'm digging stick makeup. It's just so easy.
