ARCHIVE - 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Hello lovely masking mavens! Please continue posting on the Q4 Thread which can be found here:

Many thanks to the wonderful @Aaliaa for beginning this thread and excited you are here.

To Post:

Each week features a different theme, as well as a letter of the alphabet for coming up with new masking ideas. Feel free to post as frequently or infrequently as you would like, with or without following the challenge; they are guidelines and just something we do for fun. We love hearing about every masking experience, and suggestions are always welcomed!

Please include the brand and name of the mask you are trying out, as well as a photo if possible. Any other details are greatly appreciated, including scent, if it's an exfoliating mask (include acid info if known), your overall experience, and whether or not you would repurchase. Don't forget to include a grade (thanks to @ShortErica for the idea) to help others along the way.

Most importantly, have fun and merry masking!

Mask Hacks -
Here are a few to get started thanks to our lovely BIC-ers, a big thank you for these fabulous ideas!

Trim off long chin and add to forehead for sheet masks

Squeeze tube lip balms (like Bite) into pans and place in magnetic palette

Layer lip sleeping mask (such as Laneige) over regular balm

Derma plane prior to a peel-off mask to ease the pain of removal

Warm water helps remove clay masks quicker than cold

Lay sheet masks flat prior to use so the serum is more evenly distributed

Remove clay/difficult masks in the shower to keep towel clean and removal easy

Use an HA serum prior to trying a mask with alcohol high on the ingredients list

Use a Makeup Eraser to remove wash-off masks

With a detox mask, apply a thicker layer where pores are

Use a resurfacing exfoliating spray (such as Kate Somerville’s Liquid ExfoliKate) before a detox mask to better clear out your pores

Re-use a large sample jar for a blank sheet mask pellet and fill it with essence/toner

Use a nail clippers to trip a mask if scissors are not on hand

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Thank you @GalPalVal17. I was better earlier in the year at making sure to use masks before they expired. I need to get back into a routine with that.

The holiday sets get me every year!!! 😂 Every. Year. It’s becoming a tradition in that regard. 😂🤣😂

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

I know what you mean @itsfi. Last year I bought both the Laneige and Bite holiday sets and probably won't finish until 2025. Good luck resisting since the holiday sets are always so cute.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Yeah @ShortErica, the holiday sets are always very cute. That coupled with FOMO is going to be hard to resist, but we shall see... 😬

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Week 38 - Sept 16 - 22 - L - When you are getting Glam for a night out and want that Glow

This time I opted for Glow Recipe sent to me by @faeriegirl - she's the sweetest!

I have tried this mask twice before. Once I used it in a Sephora class (speaking of which, has anyone taken one recently?) and remember my face feeling soft when I used it as a wash off. I also had a sample but my only notes were "fine but not wow." Thanks past ShortErica, so descriptive. Ha!

Anyway, I opted to use this as a sleeping mask like it is named. I tried to let it soak in for 5-10 minutes before going to bed.

The next morning:

I washed it off as directed and did my normal skincare. I don't think I saw or felt a big difference between this and when I just do the routine. Hmm... I remember being more impressed when I used it as a wash off in store. Maybe my other sample I used as a sleeping mask too and that's why I wasn't impressed. I think as a prep before a day or night out this is a nice mask. The smell is lovely but I'm cautious with scents and fragrance in skincare. I can see how the scent gets a lot of fans though. I'll go with B+. I kinda am interested to try it as a wash off to see if I get that same soft skin moment as I did in the past. I'll definitely take better notes that I prefer this mask as a wash off vs. sleeping mask.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@ShortErica I noticed the exact same thing from this mask in the mornings, couldn't tell at first if it was the actual mask material or my skin peeling. That much peel would most likely equate to some baby skin and although mine felt soft, I determined it due to the product itself rather than a peeling effect. Just my two cents.

@ShortErica what is that stuff on your face? are you peel...

@ShortErica what is that stuff on your face? are you peeling?

Re: @ShortErica what is that stuff on your face? are you peel...

@lmaster it's the sleeping mask. It must not have been fully absorbed when I laid down.

Re: @ShortErica what is that stuff on your face? are you peel...

Ok @ShortErica now I remember why I don't care for this sleeping mask... I really like the sheet mask, and I fully understand why you would prefer it as a wash off, if I ever come across it again, that's how I will use it

Re: @ShortErica what is that stuff on your face? are you peel...

@lmaster oh goodie! I have the sheet mask out to try tonight! I also think it will be nice to compare it with the lookatme watermelon tomorrow. Smiley Happy

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@ShortErica I've heard about this pilling as a sleeping mask, so I've only tried it as a wash off - but I did really enjoy it. I'll be interested what you think about it when you try it as a wash off mask again 😉

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@ShortErica  I've tried this one as a sleep mask and had a lot of piling. I prefer this as a wash off for that reason.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Glad to hear I have good company @GalPalVal17! 😁

2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

L is for Lift up face mask thank you @keana1 these masks are super cool!! this was a thin sheet with a protective film, in clear watery serum, the scent was very floral and fresh, the fit was excellent. it comes with a second piece that you place around the bottom on your chin and hook onto your ears,,, all lifting masks should take note of this!! I loved the lifting this second piece did for my under chin area,, at least while it was on 😆 there was plenty of extra serum to apply also. left it on for 25 minutes, the serum absorbed very well and my skin felt so silky smooth and soft and hydrated and hopefully the collagen will plump those areas up for eternity! haha!! I enjoyed this mask and would definitely use again! I didn't notice any tackiness after removing the mask 👍

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@lmaster I’m so glad that you enjoyed this mask! I haven’t tried it yet ( I was quite busy the last few weeks ) but it sounds great!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@keana1 oh yes! I loved the mask and the concept of the chin mask to boot!! So fun

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

I have to use my sheet masks that expire soon before trying it @lmaster ! But you’re giving me a great incentive to try it ! 🥰 I already picked out a sheet mask to try today, I woke up at 5:40 PM ( I’m a little embarrassed about waking up so late! Today’s almost over! 🙄 ) I still have to finish reviewing C week!  I’m so late, sorry! @eshoe @itsfi @ShortErica and everyone else in this very active and fun thread !

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

No apologies necessary @keana1 I’m likely further behind that’s you😂 Instead of feeling bad about it, just enjoy what you do have time to read!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

I will @eshoe ! You can’t possibly be as behind as I am ! 😜

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@keana1, there’s no need to apologize. 🤗 Life happens and we can’t always post when we want to. We love hearing about your masking choices and new skincare blends you create so it’s no biggie if they happen during the week you used them or if you’re catching up. 🥰 Do what works best for you - whether it’s catching up a little at a time or starting from here and incorporating previous  masks along the way.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Thanks @itsfi ! You’re right ! ( I tend to be too hard on myself, it’s a constant struggle ). I have to stop feeling guilty about everything that goes on and accept that some things are beyond my control.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Mask twins @lmaster! I just tried this one from @keana1 as well, hoping to get some time to post. Yes this was the first Face Shop mask I’ve used with minimal/no tackiness, it was lovely😊
