2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Hello lovely masking mavens! Welcome to the second half of the challenge. Many thanks to the wonderful @Aaliaa for beginning this thread and excited you are here.

To Post:

Each week features a different theme, as well as a letter of the alphabet for coming up with new masking ideas. Feel free to post as frequently or infrequently as you would like, with or without following the challenge; they are guidelines and just something we do for fun. We love hearing about every masking experience, and suggestions are always welcomed!

Please include the brand and name of the mask you are trying out, as well as a photo if possible. Any other details are greatly appreciated, including scent, if it's an exfoliating mask (include acid info if known), your overall experience, and whether or not you would repurchase. Don't forget to include a grade (thanks to @ShortErica for the idea) to help others along the way.

Most importantly, have fun and merry masking!

Mask Hacks - Here are a few to get started thanks to our lovely BIC-ers, a big thank you for these fabulous ideas!

Trim off long chin and add to forehead for sheet masks

Squeeze tube lip balms (like Bite) into pans and place in magnetic palette

Layer lip sleeping mask (such as Laneige) over regular balm

Derma plane prior to a peel-off mask to ease the pain of removal

Warm water helps remove clay masks quicker than cold

Lay sheet masks flat prior to use so the serum is more evenly distributed

Remove clay/difficult masks in the shower to keep towel clean and removal easy

Use an HA serum prior to trying a mask with alcohol high on the ingredients list

Use a Makeup Eraser to remove wash-off masks

With a detox mask, apply a thicker layer where pores are

Use a resurfacing exfoliating spray (such as Kate Somerville’s Liquid ExfoliKate) before a detox mask to better clear out your pores

Re-use a large sample jar for a blank sheet mask pellet and fill it with essence/toner

Use a nail clippers to trip a mask if scissors are not on hand

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

There’s a corresponding toner to this one @l8totheparty. It’s popped up a couple of times at the TJ Maxx near me. Will be interested to hear your results from this overnight mask.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@l8totheparty This sounds interesting! I'll be curious to hear how your skin looks by morning! 😃😉

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

I also have news to report for my FARMACY - Coconut Gel Sheet Mask - Hydrating that I got in my ipsy Glam Bag. First impression: wow, this thing is WET. Like, sopping wet all over the place when I pulled it out of the packet. I made a mess all over myself and sink trying to unpeel it and get it on my face, lol. I don’t think I’m a fan of the blue protective sheet cover thingies... I struggled for a long time trying to pull the second one off once the mask was actually on my face. But it smells good, and I don’t mind all the extra liquidy goodness being in the packet because I can just use the excess later!

I appreciate that the sheerness of this mask also makes me look less serial-killer-ish. And it seems to stick to my skin a lot better than other masks I’ve used. No surprises about any of this honestly because I love and trust Farmacy as a brand with my whole heart. Silly looking kissy pic for giggles:

Only bad thing about this mask so far is the eyeholes, which annoy me on pretty much any sheet mask I use. I find it really hard to center them in a way that isn’t slipping down my eyebrows, poking me in the eye, or putting me in danger of getting any liquid in the corners of my eyes. I don’t know if this is just a me problem or a “sheet masks just suck at making efficient eyeholes” thing in general.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Adorable pic and I love the mask too, @HunterKathleen! Bio-cellulose is my favorite masking material, it just feels so smooth and comfy.

lol @HunterKathleen you should see the eye holes in the mask I'm using right now lol

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

It sounds like a pretty good mask @HunterKathleen 😊

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Glad to see this one works well for you, @HunterKathleen (minus those pesky eye holes)!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@HunterKathleen  sounds like a good overall mask. Yep, eye holes can just fit so oddly sometimes. A lot of the maskers make snips to help adjust. I haven't tried that yet but I can see how some are absolutely necessary.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

This one had little divots in the outside corner of the eye but even that wasn’t enough. Maybe I just have gargantuan eye sockets lol.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

It doesn't seem like just a you problem from the comments below @HunterKathleen. I haven't personally had many eye hole issues but this mask does look like the eye holes are smaller and maybe a little narrow. Now I'm curious to see how other masks fit you. Just means you need to do more masking! Smiley Wink

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

always great to get extra moisture @HunterKathleen ! thanks for reviewing - I don't think I've tried any of their newer formula, just the old ones in the white packaging

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Hey @Kim888 we are Rookies again Smiley Very Happy

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@eshoe lol - I got like a bunch of notifications of random changes to my status this morning guess that's where it's settled hahaha

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Well now you're a Rookie III @Kim888 moving up fast this morning I see Smiley Very Happy

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@HunterKathleen, biocellulose sheet masks are great and I like the Farmacy ones a lot. I hear ya about eye holes on masks. I always have to make adjustments there; my mini scissors are always at the ready when I use a sheet mask! Lol!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@HunterKathleen  this is one of my fav sheet masks! Well in general I'm a big fan of bio-cellulose masks because of how they feel/fit. I always have a hard time pulling it from the blue protective sheet too but it feels so good when it's on. And it does have a lot of product. I usually slap on what's inside of the package and then apply the mask. Smiley Very Happy  Eye holes are usually a problem for me too... I usually take scissors and cut a very small part out so it doesn't come too close to my eyes. lol.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Just used up the last little bit of my SEPHORA COLLECTION - Mud Mask Purifying & Mattifying  sample size tonight after work. Is anyone else as obsessed with these little product sample jars as me? No? I’m just weird for collecting them? Gotcha.

Lol but seriously I love these things, especially tiny glass jars like the Farmacy one. I don’t even know what I’ll put in them but I like the idea of recycling them instead of just tossing them in the trash! It seems so wasteful. (Though to be fair I contribute to a lot of the waste by buying so many beauty and skincare products... Seriously, can the beauty industry rethink all its excessive packaging? Maybe make switches from plastic to glass? Or recycle-friendly bottles? I would feel a lot less bad about my purchasing then!)

I collect them too @HunterKathleen they are perfect for t...

I collect them too @HunterKathleen they are perfect for traveling or in my case for giving my daughter a sample of what I'm using 😉

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

I love the little jars @HunterKathleen! They are perfect for travel😊

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@HunterKathleen @ShortErica

I put more product in them if I have the large size, so it is perfect for an overnight bag or travel.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

I love sample jars like the ones in your pic @HunterKathleen! I re-use them when I travel - refill one (or two) with a mask, one with moisturizer. I will also put a couple lipsticks in a jar and mix the colors. For bigger, deeper ones, I’ll toss a blank sheet mask pellet in one and fill it with toner, essence, etc. They also work for storing pills, safety pins, etc. Extra ones I don’t use get recycled.
