2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Hello lovely masking mavens! Welcome to the second half of the challenge. Many thanks to the wonderful @Aaliaa for beginning this thread and excited you are here.

To Post:

Each week features a different theme, as well as a letter of the alphabet for coming up with new masking ideas. Feel free to post as frequently or infrequently as you would like, with or without following the challenge; they are guidelines and just something we do for fun. We love hearing about every masking experience, and suggestions are always welcomed!

Please include the brand and name of the mask you are trying out, as well as a photo if possible. Any other details are greatly appreciated, including scent, if it's an exfoliating mask (include acid info if known), your overall experience, and whether or not you would repurchase. Don't forget to include a grade (thanks to @ShortErica for the idea) to help others along the way.

Most importantly, have fun and merry masking!

Mask Hacks -
Here are a few to get started thanks to our lovely BIC-ers, a big thank you for these fabulous ideas!

Trim off long chin and add to forehead for sheet masks

Squeeze tube lip balms (like Bite) into pans and place in magnetic palette

Layer lip sleeping mask (such as Laneige) over regular balm

Derma plane prior to a peel-off mask to ease the pain of removal

Warm water helps remove clay masks quicker than cold

Lay sheet masks flat prior to use so the serum is more evenly distributed

Remove clay/difficult masks in the shower to keep towel clean and removal easy

Use an HA serum prior to trying a mask with alcohol high on the ingredients list

Use a Makeup Eraser to remove wash-off masks

With a detox mask, apply a thicker layer where pores are

Use a resurfacing exfoliating spray (such as Kate Somerville’s Liquid ExfoliKate) before a detox mask to better clear out your pores

Re-use a large sample jar for a blank sheet mask pellet and fill it with essence/toner

Use a nail clippers to trip a mask if scissors are not on hand

RE: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Just was reading an article from the Washington Post about in flight grooming and the section on sheet masks made me crack up. “The only problem with wearing a sheet mask on a plane is looking like a lunatic.” 🤣

2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

this is my last post for favorites week another lovely mask gifted to me from the sweetest @faeriegirl this one is purifying kale salad mask. I love the thin sheet that this line has, the masks are always saturated wonderfully with quite a bit of extra serum left. now the scent on this one, is not my favorite at all 😆 but you couldn't smell anything once it was applied. it reminded me of an earthy scent. fit was excellent. about 10 minutes of tackiness after removing. wear time was 20 minutes, and yes my skin felt so nice after the serum absorbed fully. it looked vibrant and felt hydrated and moisturized. excellent mask

RE: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

That sounds wonderful! @lmaster

Re: RE: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@Weetart I've really enjoyed all these salad masks that I've tried so far 🥗

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

G is for Green Squeeze2BC4726C-C085-4E5F-AE37-4E14CBAFF7D5.jpeg

Last night I used Papa Recipe Green Squeeze Relaxing mask. The mouth and eye holes were very small and I ended up making cuts to them. I wasn’t a fan of the smell, but I can’t place what it was. The serum was a light slimy serum.  My skin looked nice this morning. Out of two I’ve tried so far I prefer the Orange Squeeze more.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

This is like the green juice of sheet masks! Sorry the smell wasn’t the best but the results sound good @emaisgr8! 😃 I have the Orange Squeeze version of this one and am even more excited to use it now.

I think the scent was my least favorite in this one as we...

I think the scent was my least favorite in this one as well @emaisgr8

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@emaisgr8 I always feel like green masks have a scent danger game haha - they can smell super relaxing or have a weird earthy scent

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

For H week I tried out the Daily Harvest power up mask pack which the lovely @eshoe sent me! So first of all I am obsessed with how this mask smells! It was just the perfect hint of strawberry and smelled super yummy. I like the idea of smaller packaging for less waste, it was a bit hard to unfold the mask though as it was one of those very thin cotton ones.  It was well saturated, and my skin felt soft and hydrated after. It was a bit tacky though for longer than I usually prefer. I'd say an A-.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@Kim888 oh this sounds lovely. the lovely @eshoe  sent me one from this brand, a different variety, but looking forward to trying it.

the scent sounds delicious @Kim888

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

The scent on this sounds wonderful and I love the results you got @Kim888! 😃

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Biobelle #RiseandShine Facial Mask is a thicker sheet mask that by the description on the reverse side of the packet suggests it’s Tencel, but if that’s the case, it’s a thicker leaning Tencel with a more viscous essence having a consistency to it that is more like a serum than an essence. There’s a lot of extra essence in the packet that I applied all over. This mask has an unique scent to it – not a bad scent but it’s not one that I’ve encountered before; I’d describe it as on the light side and leaning towards clean with something else to it that I can’t pinpoint or easily associate.

For me, adherence was fine which was a little surprising because adherence can sometimes be an issue for me with the thicker leaning masks. However, the fit, though able to be remedied, wasn’t the best. While the usual adjustments were made to the chin and corners of the eyes, nose and mouth, I also needed to make more adjustments than I typically do to the nose bridge /  inner corner of the eyes as well as to the upper lip area, including the philtrum – both areas were too large. Wear time was good; I left it on between 30-40 minutes and my skin felt slightly tacky to the touch after removing the mask and pressing in the remaining essence. The tackiness fades away fairly quickly and I’m left with soft, supple, moisturized skin that has a bit of brightness to it. Overall this is a fine mask. It’s not a go-to brightening mask for me, but it does make my skin soft, smooth and supple and I’d happily use it again.

I pulled out about three of my "pineapple" lip balms but I discovered that while they smell like pineapple, none of them (NONE) actually contained pineapple. It was disappointing to learn this about my lip balms. I have a fourth pineapple balm, by Burt's Bees, that I know contains pineapple extract, but of course, I left it in my drawer at work so no pineapple pairing for this masking sesh. My lips needed something so I reached for the OLEHENRIKSEN - Lucky Pucker™ Lip Scrub - it has apple in it so I'm part way to pineapple. Smiley Wink

RE: Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

CUTE! Love plushies ❤️ @itsfi

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@itsfi how do you like the OH lip scrub? I just noticed they had this. New?

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@GalPalVal17, it’s a new one; I think it’s been out for a week, maybe? I like it. The scent is yummy - makes me think of fall and the apple filling in apple pie. 😍 The scrubbies in it are really really fine so it’s more of a gentle scrub and they dissolve into the balm on your lips. It would make a nice daily lip scrub.

@itsfi awwwww how precious!! I agree it's not a go to for...

@itsfi awwwww how precious!! I agree it's not a go to for me either, but it's super adorable with the prints on it

Re: @itsfi awwwww how precious!! I agree it's not a go to for...

The print on this one is super cute @lmaster; it puts a smile on your face! So cheery! 🍍

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@itsfi  Yes, the philtrum area was quite large on this one. While wearing this one, I tried taking a sip of my drink and it didn't quite work! That's so silly that none of your pineapple balms actually contain pineapple! Smiley Happy

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Not just the philtrum @PrettyPaint but the entire upper lip area. 😳 Lots of sheet mask surgery for me with this one. ✂️  I was a little deflated to find lip balm after lip balm with no pineapple 🍍 in the ingredients.
