2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Hello lovely masking mavens! We have outgrown the original thread started by the wonderful @Aaliaa and are beginning another masking journey. Many, many thanks to her and excited you are here. Posting/original thread:

Spoiler
Posting: Each week features a different theme, as well as a letter of the alphabet for coming up with new masking ideas. Feel free to post as frequently or infrequently as you would like, with or without following the challenge; they are guidelines and just something we do for fun. We love hearing about every masking experience, and suggestions are always welcomed!

Please include the brand and name of the mask you are trying out, as well as a photo if possible. Any other details are greatly appreciated, including scent, your overall experience, and whether or not you would repurchase. Don't forget to include a grade (thanks to @ShortErica for the idea) to help others along the way.

Most importantly, have fun and merry masking!

Survey Results: @missjeanie wanted to know all about your mask collection. The results are in: You all are funny 😆

Spoiler

Do you have an ideal size collection, or are you working towards a more curated selection of masks?

  • I'm satisfied with my stash!
  • not too worried about amount, working towards a variety
  • No idea collection, just buy them as I see them
  • Curated. I want to be able to have whatever my skin needs on hand.
  • Working toward what works best.
  • I usually buy a selection of masks every three months and aim to spend no more than $100 each time. Ultimately my selection will largely consist of the really good ones from previous experiences.
  • I guess it depends on your definition of "ideal" Hundreds of sheet masks are ideal to me 😂
  • Would love to ultimately have a sheet mask collection around 150, and wash offs around 20. But there are just too many new ones to buy!
  • I have enough overnight masks to last until 2020 ! I wish I had more sheet masks but I’m taking notes for future purchases!
  • Definitely trying to curate
  • I feel like I'm in a continual state of paring down my sheet mask collection... I seem to do better at growing it than shrinking it. hahaha!
  • I think I have too many. Haha

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Saturday night T for Teaoxi Glamglow bubble cleansing mask. I love this mask, however there are some that don't care much for bubble masks. this is a black sheet mask as soon as you open the package it does start to produce white bubbles. You need to get it on your face pretty quickly otherwise the bubbles will form all over the mask. I applied this mask and left it on for approximately 5 minutes, directions say to leave it on for 3 minutes for a deep cleanse. Hormonal acne is not kind to me at the moment, so I was hoping this would help. It did! My skin felt very clean and detoxified, my blemishes were flattened substantially. It did not dry my skin out either,,a major plus! For a bubble mask I love it so I grade it an A IMG_20190519_210531203.jpg

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@lmaster I'm thinking it may be time to dip my toe back into the Glamglow waters, this sounds so nice.  I have a blemish right now that could use some flattening!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@missjeanie I like this mask, it definitely helped me out a ton!!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Last night's masking, some skin Therapy:

Jayjun.jpgTata Harper, Jayjun, Sephora & Sara Happ

Spoiler
It's been awhile since I've used the TATA HARPER - Resurfacing BHA Glow Mask. I love her ingredient-conscious products, and went through a couple FS of the Regenerating Cleanser which is my favorite product of hers. This mask has a bit of a plastic-y scent to it, it's not the worst I am just curious what it is that causes it. It is a light pink gel that dried down completely. I left it on for 20 minutes and rinsed. It's a nice product but not one I would purchase FS.

The Jayjun Anti-Dust Therapy Mask started out so-so. I love the idea of this mask for times of the year when allergens are at a high, as it is supposed to help clean out debris and lock all that good hydration in from the mask with a moisturizing cream. The foaming cleanser is a thicker pearly white cream that has a generic soap scent. It cleansed my skin. Wasn't impressed. The mask though - the stuff my masking <3 longs for Smiley Very Happy

The texture of the mask is similar to the OOZOO's Rose or Honey capsule - silky, smooth, and so gentle on the skin. It is a pale green creamy chartreuse color, think absinthe - and a very fresh, herbal, YTTP kale cream scent <3<3<3 I left this one one for close to an hour and removing it was bittersweet. Don't think I've ever felt that way about a mask lol. I didn't notice anything extraordinary but again, this mask is supposed to help cleanse and lock out pollutants, not plump or brighten. So on to step 3. This is a lovely, velvety, matte cream that also has that beautiful fresh scent as the sheet mask. This mask was an easy A+ and one I have already been looking for online (I picked this up at Nordstrom Rack in-store). As I am looking to better curate my mask stash, this is one that makes my top 10.

Finished up with a little SEPHORA COLLECTION - Lip Balm & Scrub
and the rest of my nightly routine. I've been trying out a DS of the LANEIGE - Water Bank Moisture Creamand
it is agreeing nicely with my skin. It seems lighter than the La La I normally use, so it might be a good summer night cream.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

That anit-dust mask sounds amazing, @eshoe!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Whoa @eshoe !!  Top 10 mask!  Sounds amazing!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Semi-cross post from the 2019 Panning Challenge:

For all you maskers who use the LANEIGE - Lip Sleeping Mask, this is what 200 uses looks like:

20190101_204844.jpgUnused20190520_085000.jpg200 uses, just above the "LANEIGE"20190520_084949.jpg200 uses, different angle

And now for my question - do I bring back the Bite maple mask to test if it caused my lip weirdness in February vs. it was just an anomaly and I will love it like I did last year OR just stick with the Laneige to conduct more research on how long it takes to finish it?

@ShortErica I know since have had reactions to bite, I pe...

@ShortErica I know since have had reactions to bite, I personally love it better than laneige

Re: @ShortErica I know since have had reactions to bite, I pe...

In 2017 I bought the holiday kit and loved the bite mask - that's why I bought the mask trio this past Christmas @lmaster. But when my lips went crazy, and I know others have had reactions, I'm now concerned I could be one of them. I so hope I'm not though cause I agree - Bite > Laneige.

Re: @ShortErica I know since have had reactions to bite, I pe...

What exactly happened again? @ShortErica when your lips went crazy

Re: @ShortErica I know since have had reactions to bite, I pe...

They were constantly cracked and peeling @lmaster. The memory is now a bit foggy but I would have lots of dry skin around my lip border especially the bottom lip and the middle would have cracks.

For my face I've used the same lotions, sunscreen, and BAREMINERALS - Original Loose Powder Mineral Foundation Broad Spectrum SPF 15so it's highly unlikely it was a non-lip product causing the reaction unless the combination of a face product and the Bite interacting could cause it.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@ShortErica oh man... I'm hoping to use mine up faster than this! lol.  I don't mind this one, but I prefer the bite.  Have you had a reaction to lanolin before?  I think that's the bite ingredient that most people aren't good with.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

I don't recall having a problem last year but this February my lips freaked out @missjeanie. I eventually just stopped using almost everything on my lips. Then I started the Laneige and have determined it isn't the problem. I've since used other lip products (lipsticks/lip crayons) but haven't had that reaction. When I've used the bite lipsticks my bottom lip does get dry and a bit flakey but nothing compared to the reaction.

Part of me wants to test because I did preferred Bite due to its lasting power but part of me is scared for my lips.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@ShortErica I'd test it out again, but I'd make sure I didn't have anything important coming up in the next week or two so that I'd have time to heal them should another reaction occur.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

I don't know what happened to your bite maple mask, but I'm curious as to how many lip uses it takes to use the laneige...I have it and I think it will last for years lol.

@ShortErica

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Trying to gauge how much is gone @l8totheparty I agree it will last a long time. Assuming I used 1/6th of it so far and it's been 5 months, then that would be almost 3 years assuming I'm not touching many other lip balms. With other lip balms in my arsenal, it could last longer than most goldfish!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

It's the miracle lip product like the Energizer bunny- it keeps going and going and going @ShortErica

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@ShortErica Those all look like great summertime masks to me! I love putting the cucumber masks in the fridge first, especially the eye masks - it's so refreshing 😃🥒
