ULTA: 21 Days (of Beauty) Sale Event Thread

As many know, ULTA hosts multiple 21 day sales events per year where select items are on flash-sale for 24 hours at (usually) 50% off. This sales event goes on for 21 days (3 weeks) and each day new sales items are up for grabs. Personally, as a savvy shopper this is one of the events I watch closely for and like to plan ahead for since many times there are some truly best selling products offered up for 50% off.

ulta-21-days-of-beauty-2020.jpeg

This can be a great time of year to look out for those sought after products at a huge discount, introduce yourself to new products that you don't want to pay full price for (because now you don't have to) and stock up on some old time favorites. I have yet to see a thread made for this particular event and I thought it would be nice to have one dedicated solely to beauty that is the 21 days of beauty sale event. This is the place to discuss what you're looking forward to stocking up on, what you will be skipping and what you're going to take the plunge and finally buy this sales event!

Have not seen you update this thread @QueenMarceline. How many of the Too Faced Pillow Balms did you purchase on Monday?

Event: Love Your Skin Summer 2022

Day 14: Saturday, September 10th

Top Deal of the Day:

Spoiler
IT Brushes for ULTA Select Brush Sets-$9.75-$32.50  (Original Price: $19.50-$65)
I am fully aware brushes are quite the boring choice of the top deal of the day for some, but it after some thought I really believed that this product deserved to receive that title. IT Brushes are some of my favorite choice of brushes and although I prefer their stand-alone (and more expensive to purchase on their own) brushes, these sets are a great way for people first trying out these brushes to give them a go for a reasonable price point.

*Honorable Mention* Murad Vitamin C Glycolic Brightening Serum-$42.50  (Original Price: $85)
I also have to give a solid shout out to this days "surprise steal" the Murad Vit C Serum. Murad is a very solid brand of skincare products and I'm fortunate to have been able to try out many within their line. Admittedly, I have not tried out this Vitamin C serum but as I finish up the remainder of my DE one I might be on the market for a new serum and I'll certainly take a harder look at this one when that time comes. This is a great price drop for those curious about this product or who are willing to try out a new Vit C serum for a lower price.

Flop Deal of the Day:

Spoiler
Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick-$11  (Original Price: $22)
I own a few of these, but to be honest I was never a huge fan of this formula. I find it incredibly thick (in the worst way) and very drying. Yeah these were good when they first dropped during the initial conception stages of matte liquid lippies but overtime we have just seen some amazing and much more comfortable matte liquid lipsticks enter the scene. This would've been a great featured product... 5 years ago. Not your best move, ULTA.

BreakableColorlessCockatoo-size_restricted.gif

What I Ended Up Buying:

Spoiler
Maybe I'm just getting picky and restless towards the back end of this event, but I just didn't feel the pull to purchase a single featured product during this day.

Overall Thoughts:

Spoiler
Once again, the skincare portion of this event day hard carried the line-up (I think I'm starting to see a theme here). Nothing was a complete dud but as mentioned, the Stila lipsticks are baffling, the Nudestix are not a bad product but I feel like those who really enjoy their products probably already own the eye sticks offered, the IT Cosmetics foundation is just "okay". Lately, nothing from the makeup/beauty categories has been very excited and I personally find it a bit sad that brushes won the top deal of the day vs. an actual beauty product. This day was not a complete failure but there are definitely some missed opportunities and empty holes that could have been filled with much better deals and more popular products. Overall, it's another "meh" type-of-day.

Re: ULTA: 21 Days (of Beauty) Sale Event Thread

This was a great day for me @QueenMarceline. I was able to purchase the IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Foundation and receive 5X points on the purchase. I used my points to purchase the Murad Vitamin C serum for only $2.50 out of pocket. I am stocked up on my Murad daytime products for awhile.

Re: ULTA: 21 Days (of Beauty) Sale Event Thread

@Loretta55 Nice work! Love when you can couple points redemptions with these to make a buck go a longer way. I definitely think the foundation was the best makeup find out of this days line-up.

Re: ULTA: 21 Days (of Beauty) Sale Event Thread

Forgot to mention but about 5 years I would have loved the Stila deal as you mentioned @QueenMarceline. My go to colors were Patina and Beso. I am going to have to look for them. I have no idea if they are even usable.

Re: ULTA: 21 Days (of Beauty) Sale Event Thread

@Loretta55 Omg Patina was the bees knees. Pretty sure I still have a Patina laying around somewhere as well 🙂

Top Deal of the Day:

Spoiler
Tula Clear It Up Acne Clearing and Tone Correcting Gel-$19  (Original Price: $38)
I know this product is pretty well-loved by the beauty sphere and that shows due to it's high volume of good ratings. I love when ULTA includes products that I know will get heavily shopped and this one is definitely one of them. This product has peaked my curiosity before because of the overall good things I've heard about this brands acne-focused products.

*Honorable Mention* Josie Maran Pure Argan Milk Intensive Hydrating Treatment-$28  (Original Price: $56)
Similarly to Tula being well known for their acne-focused products Josie Maran has become synonymous with hydration-focused products for dry skin. I love that ULTA featured options for both spectrums of skin types. I know a lot of dry skin babes really loved Josie Maran products and will get benefit out of this featured deal.

Flop Deal of the Day:

Spoiler
Morphe 18-Pan Artistry Palettes-$10  (Original Price: $20)
I know some people love Morphe and their shadows but I this eyeshadow deal did not wow me whatsoever. Morphe's height of popularity in my opinion has passed despite it still having die-hard users and fans. Sure, these palettes are cute but in all honesty they're on sale quite often anyways and not that expensive without the discount. I would have loved to see an eyeshadow palette that is originally above $40/$50 during this 21 Day Sale. That way, many people who simply cannot afford that price tag might be able to afford the much more affordable $20-25 eyeshadow palette during the 21 Day Sale such as a Too Faced, Urban Decay, ABH, etc. The jump from $20 down to $10 is nice, but just not significant enough to really change the price range of these palettes. Kind of disappointing, what a missed opportunity from ULTA.

What I Ended Up Buying:

Spoiler
Nothing. This day wasn't a complete dud, but nothing even caught my eye enough to consider shopping this event.

Overall Thoughts:

Spoiler
Unlike the previous day (which had 3 skincare picks and 2 beauty/makeup picks) this day was very evenly matched with 3 products being featured per each category. I decided to really hone in on these two categories and hands down, skincare was the winner here yet again. Matter of fact, all of the products that I find like good picks in this day are from the skincare side and the 3 makeup/beauty offerings are either products I find to be complete misses or at best, "just okay". The biggest miss to me was not featuring a more popular and sought after eyeshadow palette. I'm fairly certain this is the only day they even offer up an eyeshadow palette in this 21 Day line-up, personally I find the choice here an enormous ~womp, womp~. I would've also liked to see them skip offering yet another mascara (seriously, how many mascaras have we seen this event/in others?) The Jaclyn highlighters weren't terrible but I've previously featured them in my The Offical Anti-Haul Thread as something I would not be buying so it's safe to say these didn't peak my interest much either. However, during this sale event it was definitely the strongest product on the beauty/makeup side. Yiiiikes. This day just doesn't do it for me. Sorry.

TLDR: This day was carried by the skincare products, but it still wasn't enough.

Top Deal of the Day:

Spoiler
Patchology Select Eye Patches-$17.50-$30  (Original Price: $35-$60)
I'll admit I'm a little bias here but these are some fantastic and well loved eye gels/masks/patches/whatever-you-call-them 😂 This 21 day line-up offered the Rejuvenating (Day), the Restoring (Night) and the Serve Chilled Rosé eye gels. I have tried every one of these besides the Rosé version but I'm sure someday I will. I think these are quite pricey (especially the restoring night ones) so it's incredibly nice to get 50% off to stock up on these goodies.

*Honorable Mention* Dermalogica Daily Superfoliant-$32  (Original Price: $64)
I can appreciate a very solid first time steal and in all honesty I contemplating putting this one as the winner but in the end I had to stay true my biases 😜 This sale line-up in particular the first time steals have been a bit lack luster for me but I truly think this was a fantastic addition to this sale day. Many people love this product and likely got great use out of this deal!

Flop Deal of the Day:

Spoiler
Mented Cosmetics Lip Liner & Lip Gloss-$6-$7.50  (Original Price: $12-$15)
Unlike it's predecessors, it was very easy for me to choose today's ~womp, womp~ product: these liners and glosses. Maybe I'm not with the times but I haven't heard any buzz or even a whisper about these. I've heard of this brand previously but truly cannot remember one specific product of theirs that "went viral" in the beauty sphere. Not to say these liners/glosses are not good because they very well may be, point being is I wouldn't know because I haven't heard anyone talk about these... ever. 👀

mariah-carey-i-dont-know-her.gif

What I Ended Up Buying:

Spoiler
I feel like this secret might be fairly obvious, I bought some of the Patchology eye gels. I purchased the night eye gels for my sister and got myself the day ones (because I already own the night ones from a previous 21 Days sale). 🤣 I was tempted to add on the Exfolikate cleanser but I think I'm sticking to my guns this time... no cleansers during this sale because I have too many-I've already passed on many others I like such as the Korres one so I feel like I could probably make it through this sale event without buying one.

Overall Thoughts:

Spoiler
This was a good day, not great-but good. I will say the skin care within this line-up definitely carried the sale event day because the choices of make-up/beauty were sub-par in my opinion. Realistically we ended up with 3 good products and 2 not-so-exciting products. The good outweighs the bad here, I'll take it.

Top Deal of the Day:

Spoiler
Lancome Select Renergie Eye, Night & Day Creams-$40-$65   (Original Price: $80-$130)
This became the winner due to the high reviews, high prices and likely high sales that this product will generate. I personally do not know anyone who uses these but getting them at 50% off seems pretty nice for those who do use and enjoy these.

*Honorable Mention* Korres Greek Yoghurt Foaming Cream Cleanser-$14  (Original Price: $28)
Personally, I did not find the Conscious beauty sale line-up very exciting at all but out of all the products offered there was one star in particular and that was this lovely cleanser from Korres. I couldn't not skip giving a shoutout to this product because I am regretful I snoozed on this sale day by not purchasing it.

Flop Deal of the Day:

Spoiler
bareMinerals BAREPRO Performance Wear Liquid Foundation Broad Spectrum SPF 20-$18.50  (Original Price: $37)
This product unfortunately just seemed like a "toss in", I'm positive some people use this foundation and benefited from the deal but for me it's simply the least exciting. Furthermore, I feel like I see this exact foundation at oh SO many 21 days sale events it's beginning to seem more like a default foundation. I'd like to see some variety at least from time to time.

tumblr_2e58adc0a44c32430173dc582126b441_8007d5b3_400.gif

What I Ended Up Buying:

Spoiler
I had a very busy back-to-work-from-labor-day kind of a day on Tuesday and I basically neglected to give this day much time. I browsed it, said "meh" and kept it pushing. I love the Korres cleanser but I'm fairly positive I already have a back-up and I'm so well stocked on cleansers for now that I'm desperately trying to get through the FOUR I have in rotation currently. I didn't feel a rush or pull to go grab it because of that reason, hopefully when I'm a little bit lower on my overstock of cleansers ULTA will feature this Korres cleanser again. Fingers crossed.

Overall Thoughts:

Spoiler
I hate to be a Debbie Downer but I was really underwhelmed with this day's sale line-up. If I had to describe it in one word it would simply be: underwhelming. Yeah the Lancome creams were nice, sure. The Korres cleanser was fantastic. The bareMinerals foundation is so overplayed and overdone I'm truly shocked it's featured in the 21 day sale yet again. The Conscious Beauty select items were very lack luster with the exception of the previously mentioned Korres cleanser. I guess you win some and you lose some but this is one of the weaker days within the line-up (in my opinion, of course).

Top Deal of the Day:

Spoiler
Shiseido Benefiance Wrinkle Smoothing Day Cream SPF 23-$35  (Original Price: $70)
This was my top deal of the day because of how popular this cream/brand are, the reviews are fantastic, the savings amount is very nice due to the priciness of this cream and because ULTA featured this as a first time steal. Due to this being included on the sale event day not only will people who already love this cream be able to get it at a great price but also those who were previously unable to purchase it due to high costs may be able to give it a go for the $35 price tag (vs. $70).

*Honorable Mention* Perricone MD Select Products-$9.50-$79.50  (Original Price: $19-$159)
I know a lot of people really enjoy a variety of products from Perricone MD and since these are on the pricey side, getting a 50% off discount is quite the nice perk especially for those stocking up on some old time favorites. Had to give this a shout out especially since ULTA is discounting multiple items from the brand. Kudos!

Flop Deal of the Day:

Spoiler
COSRX Lip Sleep Ceramide Lip Butter Sleeping Mask-$9.50   (Original Price: $19)
It's one of those situations again where a loser unfortunately had to be chosen and the axe fell on this lip mask from COSRX. I know this is an adored product by many and I truly don't have anything bad to say about it. The only reason it ultimately got the axe over the other product left that was not chosen as "top deal of the day" or an honorable mention (Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primers) was that those primers have been extremely popular and raved about for a decade (or more) and have truly cemented themselves as one of those staple iconic products that many people still use today.

giphy (3).gif

What I Ended Up Buying:

Spoiler
Surprisingly enough (mostly to myself), I didn't shop this day and overall have been pretty good in comparison to the numbers I used to rack up during these iconic 21 Day Sales. #Growth 🤣 In reality, the one product I use on a regular basis is the Urban Decay shadow primers but I already have a few on hand and lately, I haven't been using them as much or wearing a lot of eye makeup in general. There was really no "excuse" for me to shop this day but I'm sure many others did 🙂

Overall Thoughts:

Spoiler
I have to say, this was a very good day. It was difficult for me to pick a loser because no item truly stuck out as one from this lineup. The Perricone sale products were nice, the UD primers were a great popular add on, the Shiseido cream was another great luxury add-on and even the "loser" COSRX lip mask was a fairly solid product. Although I wasn't necessarily inclined to shop this day, I still believe this was a fantastic sales event day and wish that all of the days packed the type of punch that this one did. One can only dream. 🤣

The Daily Recap (and some very blunt and unsolicited opinions)

Event: Love Your Skin Summer 2022

Day 9: Monday, September 5th

Screen Shot 2022-09-05 at 8.42.04 PM.png

Top Deal of the Day:

Spoiler
Belif Moisturizing Eye Balm-$24  (Original Price: $48)
This is a great eye cream that is being featuring on the 21 day sale for the first time, I definitely believed this product would be the one to get the most grabs within the checkout cart during this event day. By 9pm eastern time, this eye cream was sold out so I must've been on to something with this one. This product has nearly 1,500 reviews with a very commendable 4.5 star rating. Hands down our winner of the day right here.

*Honorable Mention* beautyBlender BIO PURE Makeup Sponge-$10  (Original Price: $20)
It would feel a little off base not to at the very least mention this ultra popular product. A lot of people truly love these sponges from beauty blender and even though I rarely purchase them anymore the only times I have recently is when they have been featured on the ULTA 21 day sale. Major thanks to ULTA for giving us all a solid discount on this very pricey sponge. 😆

Flop Deal of the Day:

Spoiler
Stila Stay All Day Smudge Stick Waterproof Eyeliner-$11  (Original Price: $22)
I actually still own a few of these and quite enjoyed them back in the day. This eyeliner has a nice variety of some really beautiful colors that are hard to come across with other brands, I'll give credit where credit is due. However, overtime I definitely outgrew these mostly for the reason that they are prone to smearing/running. Furthermore, I feel like almost every 21 day sale features this liner and as of 9pm eastern time not a single one of the colors offered are sold out. A few years back, I remember buying these and having to snag them early because they were likely to sell out later. It's very clear these have lost their popularity but ULTA keeps continuously trying to make us purchase these liners.

giphy (2).gif

What I Ended Up Buying:

Spoiler
This day was a pass for me, nothing particularly caught my eye enough for me to want to make the purchase. Onwards and upwards!

Overall Thoughts:

Spoiler
Coming after a few extremely strong days is always rough and this day certainly faded into oblivion (at least for me) after some of the great snags offered earlier in the week. Was this a bad day? I don't think so. Was this a "good" day? Also no. Maybe I'm being a bit harsh but I would have loved to see something ~more~ from this sale line up.
