Does BB cream make your face oily?

I've been using a BB cream for almost 6-7 years now, just one particular brand that isn't available in North America. I love(d) it but lately I think it's what's causing my oily t-zone to get extra oily in the summer! Could the BB cream be the culprit? I've tried Benefit's Porefessional Matte Rescue and Primer, lots of good reviews on this one. I'm currently try out the Laneige Pore Care Trial Kit. I still end up having an oily face after a couple of hours. I have huge pores and an oily t-zone. Any recos on a great primer and foundation for the summer? I think I'm putting my trusted BB cream aside for this season.

Hi @mvit! That’s an interesting observation you have noted from your B.B. cream. My bb cream personally doesn’t make me more oily than I usually am when I pair it with a good pore-filling, mattifying primer. The B.B. cream I have been using lately is Erborian’s Cc cream and I haven’t seen it make me especially oily. I like to pair it with primers like Dr. Brandt’s Pores No More, Touch in Sol’s No Poreblem, PTR’s Skin to Die For and Too Faced’s Peach primer. I tend to switch up my primers a lot since I have a lot but those are the ones that I find work best with my B.B. cream!

@mvit products that once worked can backfire. Skin, hormones, environment all change, especially over years.

Let's look at your skincare routine, it may be contributing to the excess oil. It also takes months to start seeing results with new products, how long have you been using the new products?

I was also thinking that it could be all the other changes other than the make-up, agree. I just started my Laneige trial pack routine which seems to work just after a couple of days. Prior to that, I didn't really have a routine in place. Just the basic make-up removal, wash the face with soap, that's it. I guess due to aging skin and weather change... looks like it's time to change things up.

Hi, @mvit, It may be the BB cream - if its a thicker/heavier consistency. It could be weather (I know rain/humidity do less-than-wonderful things for my complexion), or other factors. My skin gets oily in summer, to the point I will actually do a full-face treatment. Effaclar Duo (with Mat over), and the Clinique Acne solutions gel actually *can* be worn full-face. I've also had luck with the Ole Henriksen Counter Balance Mattifying Moisture to control oil. I'd really only go with the full-face of the Effaclar Duo or clinique, if your skin is really, really oily and acne-prone.

The good thing about a lot of BB Creams is SPF, which you would want in summer. I've had good luck with the Tarte BB tinted treatment 12 Hour (SPF 30), and Smashbox Camera Ready BB Water SPF 30 (Go to smashbox.com for full shade range) in summer. Both have a lighter weight and texture, so they work better on oilier or combo skin.
