Re: Show Me Your Nails 2.0

I was inspired by the glazed donut nails that @ather and @RGbrown did and thought I might give it a try. Depending on the photos I've seen online, it reminds me vaguely of the nail trend that was popular in Kbeauty circles a few years back, but the glazed donut ones seem to have an irridescent look to them.

My first try late last week didn't feel quite right. I found an article from Harper's Bazaar that listed 2 polishes from Essie, one I had (Marshmallow) and the other I found at Target, on sale, so of course I had to pick it up. 🛍  So much for shopping my stash. 😆

Glazed Donut Nails, Take 1Glazed Donut Nails, Take 1

This first effort consisted of 2 coats of Essie Marshmallow, a white creme polish, topped with Essie Expressie FX Iced Out Top Coat, a pearlescent white duo-chrome with a pink-to-purple shimmer. In certain light, there's a teal shift too. A very pretty topper. Two coats of Marshmallow made the color opaque and I think that's where this was off for me; one coat would have been too sheer though.

My second attempt turned out better.

This time I used Zoya Genesis as my base. It took 3 thin coats of the shimmery, pearlescent white with very fine metallic microshimmers. Topped with Essie Expressie FX Iced Out Top Coat. I like the look of this pairing. Am planning on adding some nail art to it later this week. 🤞

Re: Show Me Your Nails 2.0

@itsfi I agree--the second one looks more iridescent and VERY pretty.

Re: Show Me Your Nails 2.0

@CookieGirl1, thank you. I am loving the iridescent finish of the topper.

Re: Show Me Your Nails 2.0

So beautiful @itsfi ! And yummy at the same time 😁😋🍩

Re: Show Me Your Nails 2.0

Thank you @Saradestin! The Essie Iced Out topper really did a great job. I know, right? At one point I thought about just getting a glazed donut. 😆

Re: Show Me Your Nails 2.0

@itsfi Really pretty! Zoya Genesis is a really neat shade paired with the Essie polish. I am liking this donut trend now that I know what it is! ☺️

Re: Show Me Your Nails 2.0

@Mellmars1185, thank you. The pairing turned out well; depending on how things with the mani later this week, it could be a combination I use again as a backdrop for nail art.

Re: Show Me Your Nails 2.0

@itsfi  I like both attempts, but the second attempt is gorgeous. 🤍

Re: Show Me Your Nails 2.0

@WinglessOne, thank you. The second one came out better than I expected.

Re: Show Me Your Nails 2.0

@itsfi

Do you have MT Izzy Wizzy (yes?) or Zoya Leia? How does this Essie compare, if so? I've been curious, but haven't run across it in person yet.

This looks fab! Love the subtle shimmer

Re: Show Me Your Nails 2.0

@RGbrown, I did some swatches of Essie Iced Out, Zoya Leia and Morgan Taylor Izzy Wizzy. It was grey and overcast today and I wasn't able to capture the differences on my nails but if the sun's out tomorrow, I'll see if I can get a photo of the three toppers on my nails where you can actually see the nuances of each topper.

There's a very smooth finish with Essie Iced Out - it gives off a pearlescent sheen over the white base. In the photos, it looks likes the difference between Zoya Leia and MT Izzy Wizzy is the color that pulls through them - pink with the Zoya and blue with Morgan Taylor, but when applied, you can see differences in the consistency and finish. There's a certain metallic sheen to both, but with Zoya Leia, the base is more sheer and prismatic with a pearly white tint to it. With MT, I don't pick up white in the base, the shift is more noticeable when painting on the color and there's more luminosity to the finish.
