Show Me Your Beauty Collections!๐Ÿ’—

Hello, beauties!!!๐Ÿ’—๐Ÿ’—๐Ÿ’—

We had a fabulous collection thread on the old BT that didn't seem to migrate over to BIC and since I love looking at collections, I thought I'd start a new thread.

This is a space to share your beauty collections - makeup, lipstick, nail polish, perfume, whatever you've got!

I'll start off with a few of my collections.๐Ÿ’—

Hi @scott1201 ,

I love organized make up! Makes finding things so easy to find and display.

Best Wishes,

Janean

Thank you, @JaneanBT ๐Ÿค—

Re: Show Me Your Beauty Collections!๐Ÿ’—

@scott1201  That last photo is very satisfying! I love that your entire collection fits in one drawer. If I had a bathroom drawer deep enough, Iโ€™d see how much of my collection can fit in it because now Iโ€™m genuinely curious.

Re: Show Me Your Beauty Collections!๐Ÿ’—

Thank you, @WinglessOne ! I have a big smile each time I open it (and I have less bottles falling over)

Amazon has so many great organizers if youโ€™re in the market. They had so many options that it probably took me an hour to figure out what would work best for my drawer.

Re: Show Me Your Beauty Collections!๐Ÿ’—

Now that Iโ€™ve done a good bit of decluttering, I can start sharing my beauty collection. Iโ€™ll begin with all my makeup brushes. Iโ€™m getting rid of a few of them but included them anyway.

Eyeshadow brushes:

You can never have too many crease/blenders?You can never have too many crease/blenders?

The Chikuhodo shader is huge. I originally used it as a powder brush for small areas, but now I use it to quickly and broadly sweep color on my brow bone or lid.

The middle shader is a 20+ year old MAC 144 I found just last month while rummaging through an old box of stuff. I forgot I had 2 of these! My other one was destroyed by a friendโ€™s cat earlier this year, hence the reason I bought that MAC 239. I was ecstatic to find my forgotten 2nd 144. Itโ€™s the oldest makeup brush I own, and all its letteringโ€™s been lovingly worn away.

The โ€œgiving awayโ€ brush is a Trish McEvoy 23. I havenโ€™t had it long and canโ€™t use it because itโ€™s too scratchy for my skin. ๐Ÿ˜ž

Cheek/powder brushes:

Spoiler
Iโ€™m under Chikuhodoโ€™s spell.Iโ€™m under Chikuhodoโ€™s spell.

I use the 3 โ€œbuffersโ€ to knock off excess powder, but theyโ€™re not meant to be used that way. Theyโ€™re awful at their intended jobs. The farthest left one is a MUFE crease blender brush thatโ€™s terrible with eyeshadow, but itโ€™s a fantastic soft fluffy brush for powdering my nose area and sweeping off excess powder there. I think both the IT brushes are meant for concealer buffing/application, which is hilarious.

For blush, I travel with either the MUFE or the red violet handled Chikuhodo. But at home, I use the Chikuhodo Z-4 most often for blush. I just got the Chikuhodo highlighter brush and Iโ€™m getting to know it better, to see what kinds of things Iโ€™ll most often use it for.

And then there are these 2 giant brushes... I never use the Sephora brush anymore for makeup, but sometimes itโ€™s a nice stress reliever: I just run it (with no product) all over my face. ๐Ÿ™‚ The IT brush is still good for buffing off excess powder on large sections of my face (forehead, cheeks), but I almost never use finishing powder on my entire faceโ€”so this poor brush sits unused 99% of the time.

Concealer/foundation brushes:

Spoiler
Multiple concealer brushes are a must when youโ€™re kinda lazy about washing them.Multiple concealer brushes are a must when youโ€™re kinda lazy about washing them.

The 2 Chikuhodo brushes are really eyeshadow shaders. Theyโ€™re made of quite soft goat, and their tapered shape makes them great for applying concealer under my eyesโ€”especially for the โ€œless is moreโ€ way I use concealer. And I still love the MUFE angled eyeshadow brushes for under eye concealer. Sometimes I do use one for eyeshadow.

Foundation brushes: I donโ€™t use beauty sponges (I kinda hate โ€˜em), but I also donโ€™t wear foundation often, so these brushes donโ€™t get lots of use. Iโ€™ve used them to apply skin tints when I didnโ€™t feel like getting product all over my hands. The one on the far left was gratis from Sephoraโ€™s Glow Up event (thanks, Sephora!). I donโ€™t really need all 3, though, so eventually Iโ€™ll get rid of one. The IT brush is much denser than its Sephora dupe by the way.

I know folks who have many more brushes than I do, including a friend who collects Japanese brushes (her Hakuhodo and Chikuhodo collections are the stuff of dreams). But Iโ€™m trying not to add many more to my own collection, especially eye brushes.

Re: Show Me Your Beauty Collections!๐Ÿ’—

@WinglessOne,

Wow!  I thoroughly enjoyed this trip through your brushes and their purposes!  It was inspiring!  I hope someday to know my brushes and their best uses this well!   ๐Ÿ™‚

Re: Show Me Your Beauty Collections!๐Ÿ’—

You have a lot of fantastic eyeshadow brushes, @WinglessOne!  One day I'll invest in a Sonia G brush in order to try one.

Re: Show Me Your Beauty Collections!๐Ÿ’—

Thanks @curlychiquita! I honestly wasnโ€™t sure what to expect from the Sonia G brushes... didnโ€™t have high or low expectations, but kept hearing about them and wanted to try a couple. Iโ€™m very impressed with the one Iโ€™ve used so far. ๐Ÿ™‚ I hope you get to try one soon!

Re: Show Me Your Beauty Collections!๐Ÿ’—

@WinglessOne This collection is so complete and thorough and it's so satisfying to look at.  Nicely organized.  I get the impression you are with all your beauty products.  I know you are with the lipstick.

Re: Show Me Your Beauty Collections!๐Ÿ’—

Thanks @sprocketta! Heh, the brushes arenโ€™t super organized when theyโ€™re not all laid out like that for photos. I keep all the eyeshadow brushes together in one brush holder, and all the cheek brushes in another holder. Concealer and foundation/skin tint brushes are on the wall beside their intended makeup products. I guess my brushes are kinda organized after all ๐Ÿ˜„ but not nearly as well as some other peopleโ€™s.

Re: Show Me Your Beauty Collections!๐Ÿ’—

So many great brushes @WinglessOne ! What do you use for cleaning them ? I use liquid Dove shower cream with Nutrium to cleanse my tiny collection and Iโ€™m wondering if Iโ€™m doing it all wrong?

Re: Show Me Your Beauty Collections!๐Ÿ’—

Thanks @keana1! Lots of cleaners will do the job, whether theyโ€™re brush cleaners, hair shampoos, body washes, or bar soaps. ๐Ÿ™‚ Especially for synthetic brushes, which can take more frequent washings than, say, a Japanese squirrel brush.

Hereโ€™s what I use to clean mine:

The hair shampoo doesnโ€™t play nice with my hair, but it works well on makeup brushes. It hasnโ€™t wrecked a brush yet. My goat and squirrel brushes really seem to like this stuff.

The green-lidded jar holds 2 sample sized Beautyblender solid cleaners. I get one whenever theyโ€™re available as free samples on my Sephora orders. These also work well on brushes, and theyโ€™re nice for traveling.

The 2 sprays are what I use between thorough washings, especially on squirrel brushes (I wash those only once a month). BeautySoClean works better than the Sephora Dry Clean spray. Neither sprays are a replacement for a true washing.

Iโ€™m still looking for good brush cleaning wipesโ€”something thatโ€™ll act like those 2 brush sprays for between-washing product removalโ€”that work without messing up brushes. Thatโ€™d be ideal for travel. Iโ€™m not super impressed by the Parian Spirit wipes. I tried an Elf brush wipe and it nearly ruined the synthetic brush I tested it on, so those are a big nope.

Re: Show Me Your Beauty Collections!๐Ÿ’—

Thank you so much for the tips @WinglessOne I really appreciate your help! ๐Ÿ˜Š

Re: Show Me Your Beauty Collections!๐Ÿ’—

Swooooooon @WinglessOne What a lovely collection and so nicely laid out and labeled! Do you have a preference for the Sonia G over the WG brushes? I see Beautylish is coming out with more Sonia G eye brushes, wondering if they were worth giving a go?

Re: Show Me Your Beauty Collections!๐Ÿ’—

Thanks @MissPuff! I still havenโ€™t used the Sonia G crease brush on my eyes (donโ€™t know whatโ€™s taking me so long), but Iโ€™ve used the worker one brush a couple of times. Iโ€™ve used all my Wayne Goss brushes on my eyes.

For blending overall, I prefer the Sonia G Worker One blender over the Wayne Goss number 6. The Sonia G kinda has a hybrid shader/blender shape, like a plump shader. Itโ€™s a fantastic, very efficient blender and diffuser. It gives me softened lines in far fewer strokes than needed with my other blenders, and it can apply a diffused wash of color. For instance, with this brush I can very easily layer one Viseart Editorial Brights shade over part of another to create a new color, and the lines are automatically softened/blurred in the process. I even like the handle of this brush: itโ€™s longer than the Gosses and Chikuhodos, but it feels balanced enough that I can comfortably hold it where I need to for easy blending.

To blend out the inner corner of my creaseโ€”that part of my eye a big blender canโ€™t easily handleโ€”the Wayne Goss 6 is better than the Sonia G because of its smaller size and extra softness. But if I need to blend in a tight space, a Goss small crease brush works best.

I love those little Goss crease brushes. Still need to use the Sonia G Crease One soon for comparison, since it has an interesting shape for a crease brush.

Not sure if any of this helped. โ€œWell, I like brand X for task 1 but brand Y for task 2... oh wait, that doesnโ€™t really tell you if I prefer brand X or Y...โ€ ๐Ÿ˜„  Really though, if the new Sonia G brushes contain a โ€œworkerโ€ brush (I got the Beautylish email announcement but havenโ€™t investigated yet), and you want something thatโ€™ll make quick work of softening/diffusing, Iโ€™ll recommend that one.

Re: Show Me Your Beauty Collections!๐Ÿ’—

@WinglessOne Very nice collection and more than that the labeling. What is that Sephora brush labeled as "Bronzer" in 'Cheek/powder brushes"

Re: Show Me Your Beauty Collections!๐Ÿ’—

Thanks @naturalooks15! Thatโ€™s the SEPHORA COLLECTION - PRO Precision Powder Brush #59.

Itโ€™s synthetic and it was my primary blush brush before I bought the Chikuhodo Z-4, so itโ€™s been washed many times and has gotten rather bushy. Had I dried it in a brush guard, it mightโ€™ve kept its original shape better. I donโ€™t use it much for bronzer anymore because the Chikuhodo powder brush is soooooo much softer and better at diffusing. But it did a very good job when it was one of my primary brushes. Soon Iโ€™ll retire the 59 with honors. ๐Ÿ™‚

love how nicely labeled they are! @WinglessOne great brus...
