@ashleylynnmarie ,
Having a skin routine/prep is important, so don't get rid of that. Generally, you need a least a cleanser, a moisturizer and sunscreen. Exfoliating also helps, but you don't want to overdo it. Toner, essence and serums also help, personally I try to look at what my skin is doing and adjust those if needed.
Just learned this from @fatimamummy , don't apply hyaluronic acid with your foundation, it'll suck moisture out from your foundation.
If something's water based, usually water is high up on the ingredient list and it's liquidy. Usually if something is silicone based, it has a slippery feel to it, and actives (aha/bha/vitC) won't do well with those. Sometimes you can get away with letting a product dry down completely. Then, lightly tap/apply the other product.
For creasing: go lighter on products. Usually when there's separation in a crease there's oil or it's where your skin moves. Skin moves! So if the application is heavy than what the area needs, for example being undereye and applying both foundation and concealer, it'll crease. I don't apply foundation heavy there or my forehead where I have lines, rather use the remnants from my brush to lightly cover my forehead. My eyes, I just use concealer, if needed. If the product creases, I use a hydrating setting spray, concealer and my fingers to diffuse it. If it constantly happens, then I prep the problem area with more moisturizer, let that moisturizer sink in and apply with a wet sponge.
For high temp areas, use a setting spray with polymers in it and mix with your foundation. It'll make the foundation look a little liquidy, but it worked for me this summer. Foundations I like for hot hot weather are
DIOR Backstage Face & Body Foundation
and
Estรฉe Lauder Double Wear Stay-in-Place 24-Hour Longwear Foundation 6W2 Nutmeg
(ignore the shade). You could also apply powder then primer, there are tons of YT/TT tutorials for this, I recommend AleJay though, but this was too many steps for me personally ๐
. It was easier for me to spray setting spray into my hand with my foundation and just apply (which I got from an old Wayne Goss video, but I'm sure others have done this).
Application tools also matter. Use a sponge or brush that's not too dense. Yesterday I cleaned my brushes and used a Kabuki brush with my usual foundation and had to make adjustments because the application was different (went on dry, brush sucked everything up). Sponges add moisture and blend as you go, so you can also concentrate coverage on areas you want (any discoloration, acne) without overloading your face. Something that's medium dense let's you stipple in, but still allows for an airy finish. I like SEPHORA COLLECTION PRO Foundation Brush #64 for this or Ami Colรฉ's foundation brush.
