I find it hard to browse for lipstick shades. You can sort lip products by things like bestselling or top-rated, but it's a bit harder to figure out which particular shades are the best. So I decided to start this thread to see which lipstick shades you reach for the most.
My five, in no particular order:
1. Dior Rouge Lipstick in Daisy Plum
2. Tarte LipSurgence Lip Tint in Moody
3. Bobbi Brown Lipstick in Brownie
4. Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in Lolita
5. Too Faced Melted Lipstick in Melted Chihuahua
Bonus round:
These lipsticks are pretty dramatic for everyday wear, but when it comes to wearing a dramatic lip, these are the shades I reach for the most:
1. Dior Rouge Lipstick in Visionary Matte
2. Urban Decay Vice Liquid Lipstick in Studded
Such a fun thread!
My current top 5 -- that have been living in my bag these past few months-- in no particular order are
-YSL rouge volupte shine 46 orange perfecto
-sephora lipstories in take a bite
-lancome matte shaker yummy pink
-lancome matte shaker in magic orange
-bite beauty nearly neon fuschia
Okay, I know I asked for lip shades, but Iโm really drawn to the actual products you picked out. YSL Rouge Volupte Shine looks very similar to their discontinued product, Sheer Candy. The packaging is almost identical (and Iโm completely in love with the packaging), and it looks shiny and moisturizing, just like Sheer Candy. Does it smell fruity? I want to check out this entire line! The Lancome Lip Shaker also looks enticing because of the more sheer wash of color than is typical for lipsticks, though I think Iโd probably like the juicy shaker better than the matte shaker. @janedoe13
@IciclePop i think they smell like mangoes! super yummy - a lot better than the rose type scent of the rouge pur coutures.
i love the matte shakers- they last all day for me without a touch up which sometimes is a necessity- i tried the juicy shakers but found they bled on me and thus didn't really like them-
@janedoe13 Are they pigmented enough that you really notice the bleeding? I guess I'll have to test them in person before I buy. I figured there would be some bleeding, but online, the colors looked sheer enough that I didn't think the bleeding would be super obvious.
i found it super oily- ended up like looking like a child after a popsicle @IciclePop
Oh okay good to know. Thanks @janedoe13!
I'm Tom Ford girl. The most reaching for lippie is Pussycat shade. The rest is just rotation of my other Tom Ford shades. For the day that i feel liked neutral (which is not very often), i like the combo of Hourglass Peacemaker/Nars Orgasm lippie/lipgloss. Couple non TF favorites are Chanel La Favorite (even though formula not best), Rouge Vie (sooo good) and this year red No3 LE. Honorable mention: Pat McGrath matte lippies: They are so awesome. I just dont wear them that often though. Time to get them out and play. ๐
I wish I had the coloring to pull some of those shades off. Pussycat and La Favorite in particular are so pretty! @blackkitty2014
@IciclePop, hehehe, can you tell Iโm a colorful lippie girl ๐. One day iโll be 80 yr old woman whom wearing red and pink lipsticks
Wow, Raisin is going on my wish list. My big problem with lipsticks is that I donโt want anything either (a) too drying, or (b) too pigmented, so I use a lot of tinted balms, but some lipsticks out there fit the bill for me. The most disappointing brand for me is Bite Beauty, because they have a great reputation for their lipsticks, and they genuinely have great lipsticks, but every time I try one on theyโre so freaking pigmented and I like less opaque color than what they offer. @seral
@IciclePop Have you tried Charlotte Tilbury matte revolution formula? It's thinner/sheerer and super comfortable on the lips. Bite Beauty is way to thick for my liking as well.
@seral, i'm not a lippie girl either yet somehow i have almost 100 lippies. It is bad ๐
1. BITE Amuse Bouche bullet in Persimmon
2. BITE Amuse Bouche liquid lipstick in Flambe
3. BITE Amuse Bouche bullet in Gazpacho
4. MUFE Rouge Artist Natural in N9/Copper Pink
Honestly, that's it, the rest are just not in constant rotation. I like a good bright lip and keep a neutral for very conservative settings. For night wear, I like to blot and cover with super shiny Smashbox gloss in Electric Orange or Dior gloss in Darling, which is a bright pink-leaning fuschia.
Those reds look like beautiful fall colors! I really like the Darling color, and I noticed that comes in lipstick form, too. Bright colors in gloss form never seem to work well for me, because itโs too hard to color inside the lines. @pocketvenus
@IciclePop, I always match a lipstick to a bright gloss and stain my lips with it first. So I apply lipstick once, blot, apply again, blot, finalized with lip brush. When the lipstick has a strong, graphic line, this helps, even if you mess up the gloss a little bit. But don't blot the gloss after or it will take off both the gloss and lipstick and mess up your lines!!! It's a very high maintenance look ๐ If anyone has an easier method, I'm all ears ๐
Its so interesting reading everyone else replies, thanks for starting this @IciclePop1
1) YSL Tatouge Coutre Matte Stain in 19 & 12
2) MAC lipstick in Taupe
3) Buxom Lip Cream in Mudslide
4) Laneige Lip Mask in Berry (I wear this more then anything most no-makeup days!)
5) Tony Moly Shocking Lip in Ruby Shocking - I only got this a week ago but wow am I impressed. This is the longest lasting stain I've ever used and after about 10 minutes you feel nothing and forget you are wearing it!
After your first pick, I was expecting the other ones to be a lot bolder than they ended up being! Mac Taupe looks like a great neutral. @Aaliaa
Fun thread! Mine are all rose/berry fam:
1. Hourglass Lip Stylo - Inventor
2. Fenty Hyper-Glitz - Sci-Fly (LE)
3. Givenchy Rouge Interdit - Framboise Obscur
4. Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment - Poppy (๐จ๐ฆ version)
5. Nars Lip Tint - Promise (LE)
Bonus round - shades that might be in my top 5, but I don't have and still need to re/purchase:
- Dior Addict - Avenue
- Hourglass Lip Stylo - Innovator
- Givenchy Rouge Interdit Vinyl - Grenat Envoutant
Oh my god I just added Grenat Envoutant to my wish list!! I have the Rouge Interdit Vinyl in Noir Revelateur, so I already know I like that lipstickโs finish, and the color is beautiful! Iโm also intrigued by the Hourglass Lip Stylo, because the swatches I saw looked more moisturizing than I was expecting. What texture are the Stylos? I had thought they were matte (and therefore drying), but they sure donโt look matte? Also, one more question: Is Sci Fly hard to apply? Because I love that color and might add it to my wish list as well, but when I Googled it, it looks like it might have a rather patchy application. @fieldsofclover
