I find it hard to browse for lipstick shades. You can sort lip products by things like bestselling or top-rated, but it's a bit harder to figure out which particular shades are the best. So I decided to start this thread to see which lipstick shades you reach for the most.
My five, in no particular order:
1. Dior Rouge Lipstick in Daisy Plum
2. Tarte LipSurgence Lip Tint in Moody
3. Bobbi Brown Lipstick in Brownie
4. Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in Lolita
5. Too Faced Melted Lipstick in Melted Chihuahua
Bonus round:
These lipsticks are pretty dramatic for everyday wear, but when it comes to wearing a dramatic lip, these are the shades I reach for the most:
1. Dior Rouge Lipstick in Visionary Matte
2. Urban Decay Vice Liquid Lipstick in Studded
The Hourglass stylos are definitely not matte (I can't do matte, they all look dead on me)... they're satin, but slightly shinier than an Amuse Bouche bullet. It's my favorite formula so I hope they keep expanding the shade range. Comfortable and moisturizing, like you noticed, and not as thick as Amuse Bouche.
Sci-Fly is actually the easiest for me to apply, I think because the metallic makes it a little more forgiving. But my MLBB is Bite Thistle, so I usually have the opposite problem... most so-called nudes go on patchy for me. I have Fenty Supermoon too, which is lighter than my natural lip color and still goes on evenly (like a more interesting-looking Nars Orgasm). So ymmv? @IciclePop
Thanks for the info, @fieldsofclover! I just know my husband would love Sci-Fly on me because he's into dark lips (far more than I am!), but with dark lip colors, their formula is paramount because if it's possible to mess it up, I will!
@IciclePopUnidentified
I'll second @fieldsofcloverUnidentified on Sci Fly. It's dark, but it's also a bit sheer, plus the metallic is forgiving. It fades gracefully as well, and I've never found it patchy. It's super easy to wear!
I don't wear nudes or neutrals at all...Sci Fly is the one I reach for when I still want color, but don't want to overwhelm the rest of my look with my usual bright berry/fuchsia/magenta. It's the color-lover's neutral, if you will. 😹
This is literally the only lipstick I own a backup of. @IciclePop
Oooo what a fun topic! I luv a bright lip color, so my 5 current favs are:
1. Burt's Bees Tinted Moisturizer in Honeysuckle
2. ColourPop Matte X in Backup
3. Huda Beauty Lip Strobe in Fearless
4. Marie Dalgar in Hippiedom
5. Stila Liquid Lipstick in Dolce
Honorable Mention: Lancome L'Absolu Lacquer in Gold For It.
Wow!! These are all pretty colors, and I’m lusting after them but also trying to figure out which ones might actually look good on me. Fearless in particular looks stunning, but I don’t know how those gold flecks would do with my skintone. And Backup looks so girly and pretty. @gymgirl2
Just looked at their color selection, and I might try the Huda Lip Strobe in Moody. I love the look of the product, but Moody would probably match my skin tone better.
fun idea
1. Echo Park Colourpop
2. Salt Lyfe Tarte
3. Sex on the Peach Too Faced
4. Lumiere Colourpop
5. Brulée Stila
Runner up: Too Faced Gingerbread Man anytime I can in the fall
Wow, Salt Lyfe looks really pretty! All of your picks look nice and wearable, like they could be used with a lot of looks. @jbean90
the smashbox always on liquid lip in "out loud" is a good dupe for the too faced gingerbread one. I bought 3 of the gingerbread one last fall, I love that one too.
I hope liquid lipsticks count! Mine are...
- Sephora Collection Cream Lip Satin in Marvelous Mauve
- Too Faced Melted Matte Queen B
- Nars Cruella
- ABH Dusty Mauve
- Stila Baci
I see a lot of mauves in there! You’re lucky if you can pull those off. I think mauve is a really pretty color, but it never looks right on my own lips. @GG84
@GG84 I always pronounced Stila's Baci as "Bah-Chee" and googled it to check if that was correct (it is, whew!). While doing so, I found out that that is Italian for "kisses." how cute! and also such a nice colour! good pick 😉
1- Secret Salma - Charlotte Tilbury
2- *itch perfect - Charlotte Tilbury (It didn't let me write the B word lol)
3-Dior Lip Glow in 01
4- J'adore -Marc Jacobs
5- Super Cindy - Charlotte Tilbury
A couple of those have been on my radar for a while. I’ve heard great things about Dior Lip Glow, and also about the *itch Perfect shade in Charlotte Tilbury’s line. J’adore looks right up my alley: I need my neutrals to be on the darker side, and this is definitely a darker neutral! @Cyncynn
@IciclePop Let me know if you need swatches ❤️
If you like a darker nude brown Victoria's Secret velvet matte in the color wanted might be for you. I love their formula - It is liquid, but performs like a regular lipstick (you'll have to retouch throughout the day for sure), is not drying and has a 'blurred' finish on the lips.
@IciclePop Fun thread! I love talking about lip products. This month I've been drawn to brighter lips and glosses. But my usual top 5 are:
If we talk about lip glosses, this summer I'm constantly reaching for ABH St. Tropez which I redeemed for 100 points. And the Fenty Glossbomb is so easy to wear and throw on on its own or on top of another product.
Wow!! Pink chocolate is so pretty! But it looks like it’s not sold anymore? ☹ Your taste in lip colors looks similar to mine! @mishanyc
Here are mine!
KVD Lipstick in Muneca
Sephora Collection Matte Liquid Lipstick in Glowing Beige
Huda Lip in Crush
Huda Lip in Sugar Mama
ABH Pure Hollywood
I have light-medium skin with golden undertones!
