I find it hard to browse for lipstick shades. You can sort lip products by things like bestselling or top-rated, but it's a bit harder to figure out which particular shades are the best. So I decided to start this thread to see which lipstick shades you reach for the most.
My five, in no particular order:
1. Dior Rouge Lipstick in Daisy Plum
2. Tarte LipSurgence Lip Tint in Moody
3. Bobbi Brown Lipstick in Brownie
4. Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in Lolita
5. Too Faced Melted Lipstick in Melted Chihuahua
Bonus round:
These lipsticks are pretty dramatic for everyday wear, but when it comes to wearing a dramatic lip, these are the shades I reach for the most:
1. Dior Rouge Lipstick in Visionary Matte
2. Urban Decay Vice Liquid Lipstick in Studded
Man, between @fantaji telling me how wonderful the Charlotte Tilbury Matte Revolution Formula is and you showing me all the shades ... agh, I'm really, really tempted. Where do you buy her products? When I Googled it I only saw Nordstrom and Bloomingdale's, and both of those require a drive into the city. @mmmiu
Yeah, Nordstrom and Bloomie if you wanna see it in person. Beautylish, Net-a-Porter, Cult Beauty for online orders. I have to drive for 40-60 min to the closest Nordstrom that carries her stuff 😞 But it is coming to Sephora soon, I believe.
My favorite shade is Pillow Talk.
Lipsticks I reach for most:
1. UD Sheer Revolution Lipstick in Sheer Liar
2. Memebox Nooni Lip Oil in Appleberry
3. NARS Satin Lip Pencil in Rikugien
4. MJ Lip Creme Lipstick in Kiss Kiss Bang Bang
5. BITE Matte Creme Lip Crayon in Torte
This is mainly for easy looks/for work. The lip oil isn't truly a lipstick but it leaves a nice pink-red stain that I love. The UD lipstick is the only lipstick I have every purposefully bought a backup for (when the revolution line was discontinued). I'm almost done with the original. I use the BITE lipstick less because it's almost completely gone. My go-to recently for a dramatic lip has been Fenty Stunna Paint in Uncensored. The perfect red!
Oh interesting, I Googled the Sheer Revolution and I like a lot of the colors in that line. Unfortunately, I never discovered those lipsticks while they were around, even though Urban Decay is one of the top brands I buy from. I think it was their bright purple packaging that threw me off. Even though the word "sheer" was in their name, bright purple just says "anything but sheer"! @Kay522
While I can't speak to the formula, a lot of the Sheer Revolution colors are still being made under the Vice lipstick line. I am very very partial to the Revolution line though, those tubes just have such a nice weight and look to them. The metal tubes were so nice and I loved the light purple tubes of the Sheer line. And the colors really are sheer, even if they don't look sheer in the tube. Like, I also have Sheer Ladyflower and Sheer Shame, which in the tube are magenta and a very deep purple. But they go on as a nice pink or berry wash of color. They are a more glossy/balmy finish so they won't have the longevity, but they are nice for a splash of color that still works great for everyday looks!
Ugh I love my lipstick but my top 5 are probably:
1. Ofra Liquid Lip in Mocha
2. Tarte Color Splash Hydrating Lipstick in Margs
3. Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Quench Lip Rescue in Cherry (I've gone through 3)
4. Too Faced Melted Matte in Suck It
5. Laura Mercier Creme Smooth Lip Color in Damask
I am 100% a nude lip kind of gal. Although, I do enjoy a good orangey-red lip occasionally.
Those all look like great neutrals! They remind me a bit of my own picks, actually. @corrriinaaa
Love this idea @IciclePop Here are mine in no particular order:
1. Cami by Colourpop
2. Psycho by Urban Decay
3. American Woman by NARS
4. Taurus by Bite
5. Omi by Pat McGrath Labs
I love a good mauve but these are my easier to slap on favorites!
Other than Psycho, those colors look like they'd go with almost anything! Especially American Woman. (I have that song stuck in my head now, thanks.) @michelleshops
@IciclePop fun thread! 💄 mine are
1. Dior Lip Glow 001
2. Tom Ford Indian Rose
3. Mac Velvet Teddy
4. Fenty Gloss Bomb
5. KVD ELL Lovesick
Grr @bakeamuffin,I wish I'd never seen Indian Rose!! It's absolutely beautiful, but that's a lot of money to spend on a lipstick!
P.S. But thanks for Velvet Teddy, because that one's lovely as well and much more affordable. Though honestly, if I'm Rouge that means I'm spending $1,000 a year in makeup, so really, what's one $50 lipstick? I should stop complaining.
I agree, the $20-$30 prince range for lippies is much more affordable- the TF was actually a promo @IciclePop😄 Although sometimes I’ll splurdge on a $40 Dior lippie 😬
Yeah, I feel like every time I've splurged on Dior, it's been worth it. (Though the only things I've splurged on were lipsticks and mascaras.)
@IciclePop My list is:

Essence Come Naturally
😮 I'm wearing Violate on my lips right now!!!! All your picks look gorgeous, but especially Come Naturally! Where can you buy Essence products? I've never heard of the brand before. @greeneyedgirl107
Too funny that you are wearing Violate!!! @IciclePop
@IciclePop Essence is sold at Ulta (IDK where else). It's a drugstore brand (started in Germany), so their lip products are about $3-5! Honestly, I think the quality is just fine. I haven't seen Come Naturally at Ulta recently b/c they are carrying another line from Essence right now, but it's available on Essence's website. I bought a nude-brown from them (the name escapes me) that is also very wearable.
You must check out their Lash Princess False Lash Effect mascara. I heard about it from Allure (only $4.99) and I think it out-performs ones I've tried from Dior, Benefit, etc.
@greeneyedgirl107 @IciclePop I've seen Essence at Fred Meyer, which is like a big box store with groceries in the PNW. They are a Kroger brand I believe, so if you have a Kroger brand grocery store in your area it may be there too.
