100 Days of Lipstick Challenge

Hi BIC!

A lot of us have talked about our huge lipstick collections, and with the passing of another National Lipstick Day, I took stock of mine. I have about 200 lipsticks and glosses and realized, I only wear about 20 of them! So I'm challenging myself (and whoever else wants to join) to use more of them. I'm going to try to wear a different lipstick every day for the next 100 days.

First lipstick for this challenge. In celebration of National Lipstick Day 2025. 💋 Instead of one lipstick per day, I'm aiming to use 100 lipsticks. Do I have a hundred? 🙄 😂🤣😂 I haven't actually counted; a part of me wants to say that I do not (balms, glosses and oils make up the bulk of my lip collection), but I have a feeeling that this'll be a pretty sobering challenge as I start working my way through my lipsticks. That said, here we go. 💄

That’s a very sweet welcome; thank you, @Mellmars1185. I know some folks on BIC, including you and @Samtian, are on their second set of 100 lipsticks which is very impressive.

I’m not sure how many lipsticks I’ll get to this year or how often I’ll be on here but it’ll fun to work in some lipstick combos. I know that about 4-5 years ago, @RGbrown  used this challenge as a way to declutter (so smart)! and I’ll try to do the same if/when I can, in combo with the throwdown thread. Out of curiosity, do you recall how long it took you to use 100 lipsticks? 🤔

@itsfi The way I initially started the challenge was to use a different lipstick everyday. It kind of evolved throughout the years for me. I ended up doing looks with shades I liked duplicate times. Or sometimes I do a combo that involves a lipstick I have already used but it creates a whole new look. I was very motivated. I would say the first round took less than a year. The second time took a little longer. I think I am on my third round now and it has been years in. I like @RGbrown's idea of using it as a way to declutter. Do you have an idea of how you are going to approach it?

Oh, your third round? Wow @Mellmars1185, that's great! Hmmm, I have a general idea for an approach but will probably see how that goes for a couple of months and then make adjustments, if needed. In terms of which lipsticks, it'll primarily be what's in my makeup capsule for the week or if I get something new that I have to dig into immediately - I'm on a no spend/low buy at the moment so there'll be less of those; the Prada here being an exception. From there, I'll use the route I've taken with the capsule challenge in terms of determining whether the lipstick is a keeper or to be passed along, or if I'm undecided. In my head, it seems like a good way for me to go about it.

Hahaha @Mellmars1185; I can so relate to that. I feel like the capsules have helped to be better organized in the mornings and I'm running around less trying to find something, so it's nice to have it all in one bag, in one spot. But, inevitably, I will find that I'm missing a product I really wanted to use or that would go with my look. Or, sometimes, I just forget to include it in my capsule photo. 🤣 You could post your look here with the lip info.

lol, I really would like not to have so many. I passed along quite a few lipsticks last year and I haven't picked up as many as I've let go so in that regard, I'm in good better shape. I figure it' may help me categorize what I do have in piles - keep, toss, donate, gift, or save for future throwdown! 😂 We'll give this a try and see how it goes, and make adjustments, if and as needed.

It's definitely been a work in progress @ather; thank you. I feel like I've done better with scaling back and I'm happy with that. Not just with beauty products either, so it's touched on other areas of life as well.
