Sephora BI Challenge:
Just one task left to complete for the challenge.
Quick notes:
amika Reset Cleansing Oil 6.7 oz / 200 mL is a restock. I talked about it in the May 2024 Favorites thread.
Fenty Beauty by Rihanna Hydra Vizor Huez Tinted Moisturizer Broad Spectrum Mineral Spf 30 Sunscreen ... wasn’t on my radar, but the product I’d planned to buy for the challenge’s skincare task was OOS at this store. I wandered around, swatched a few things, and wound up spending more than I’d planned to for this task. Hopefully this tint’s deep enough to mask the zinc oxide in this sunscreen, but not too warm or yellow-toned. I’ll probably find out this weekend.
I forgot to bring an empty container for the challenge’s recycling task, otherwise I’d have finished the whole thing in a single store visit. 🤦♀️ Gotta remember to do it sometime this month.
Beautylish:
Forgot I had some store credit left over; this order cost me $2.20 OOP + sales tax.
Quick notes:
Wayne Goss White Gold Brushes 1 Large Bronzer and 7 Hooded Eye - I bought these newly launched synthetic brushes purely for scientific research; never mind that I’m not supposed to be buying many more brushes this year. 😅 These two are having a bad hair day in my photo because they haven’t fully unfurled and fluffed out yet. I might wet them down and let ‘em dry to help that process along. The no. 1 brush is bigger in person than I expected, especially the handle. I’m kinda excited to try it with brightening Hourglass Ambient Lighting powders, though.
Jouer Blush & Bloom Cheek + Lip Stick, shade Peony - an impulse buy. Not many thoughts on it yet, aside from the lightly emollient feel during my hand swatch. I’ll have to play with it. There’s a swatch of it in the next spoiler tag.
Pat McGrath Labs direct & a gift from a friend:
The WA lipstick is the gift.
Swatches & notes:
PAT McGRATH LABS Dramatique Mega Lip Pencil Flesh 3 and Flashbulb Fuchsia - these aren’t quite what I expected, but I need to give them a full day’s wear test before passing final judgement. For now, I’ll ramble a bit about my lip swatch experience. If anyone else tries these crayons, lemme know what you think of them. I’m very curious.
Lemme start with Flesh 3, which is not the lovely brown rose color of PAT McGRATH LABS MatteTrance™ Lipstick Flesh 3 109; instead, it’s a deep brick red. Still pretty, just not what I expected.I should’ve also swatched Pat’s Lip Fetish Balm shade Ultra Vixen, which I think is probably very close to the lip crayon Flesh 3.
Within 5 minutes post-application, Flesh 3 set to a lightweight, budge proof, true matte—like, liquid matte—finish: it didn’t transfer while I drank water and kissed my hand. This shade wasn’t MatteTrance-plush on my lips. It’s more like having a liquid matte in solid crayon form, but less drying—though I’d never skip my Aquaphor base. Kinda reminds me of NARS Powermatte liquid matte and maybe Gucci’s liquid matte. Anyone who doesn’t like accentuated lip lines should probably avoid these crayons. But you can always throw a Gloss Bomb over it (and it’ll stay put)…
Flesh 3 topped with a randomly grabbed Fenty Gloss Bomb 😄
The other shade, Flashbulb Fuchsia, is kinda like a mix of 2 LuxeTrance shades:
I lipswatched this one first and it got really sticky between my lips. 🤔 I wiped it off and tried Flesh 3 to see if stickiness is a formula-wide thing. It’s not (Flesh 3 wasn’t sticky at all once it set), so I’ll try Flashbulb Fuchsia again later this week… eh, maybe I didn’t give it enough time to set, or I might’ve used too much Aquaphor underneath, I dunno. I do wanna give it a fair second chance.
Westman Atelier Lip Suede Hydrating Matte Lipstick with Hyaluronic Acid LFG - a friend gifted this to me, even though she’s heard my rant* about the non-accessible packaging. “I know, I KNOW,” she said, “but hear me out: refills are coming soon, and you might get used to the case.” She also wanted my thoughts on the lipstick formula, having tried a different shade herself.
So I tried on LFG at home and dangit, I’m legit annoyed that I like this formula so much. Now I’m having a “such a fantastic lipstick, but the case is stupid—but the formula!—but, the case!” inner conflict. 🫠 The lipstick itself is truly remarkable: very lightweight feel yet crazybold pigmentation that applies evenly and stays on for hours. And I mean really stays on: I got some transfer to my coffee mug, but LFG refused to wear down. It took The Inkey List Oat Cleansing Balm, Paula’s Choice Gentle Touch Makeup Remover, and Vaseline to remove it at night—and even after all that, I went to bed with stained lips. If you buy one of these, you’d better love the shade you pick because you’ll be wearing it aaalll day and night, whether or not you want to. 😅 But hey, no reapplication needed throughout the day! And I do love the LFG shade; my friend did great with her gift color choice.
*Modifying my original rant about this lipstick:
I see now that the lipstick can be easily pulled out of its case. But it can’t be twisted up or down without the case. So unless I rig a workaround, I have to use that stupid bulky case and be careful while twisting it up or down so my fingers don’t accidentally touch the bullet. 😒 At least I know now it’s refillable (I initially thought it wasn’t). And I probably won’t need to carry the lipstick in my purse since LFG is so long wearing.
I still say the case will be hard to use for anyone with limited finger dexterity or hand strength. This matters to me because I personally know several people who have RA, MS, and other chronic illnesses that affect their ability to grip and twist objects. They deserve to have fantastic lipstick formulas just as much as more able-bodied folks do, and I wish Westman Atelier (really all beauty brands) had considered that.
My lip swatches of all 3 lipsticks:
This is a fun haul, @WinglessOne! Everyone’s getting the Westman Atelier lipstick- I’m being persuaded! 😄 Not happy to hear you don’t like the case, though.
Thanks @curlychiquita ! I hope you like the WA lipstick if you get one! It’ll take me a while to get used to the case, but even then I’ll side-eye it because I know some lipstick lovers who can’t use it without some kind of case modification.
@WinglessOne Awesome haul. Please let us know how you like the Fenty Tinted moisturizer.
Thanks @AlisonD682 ! I’ll tag you when I’ve got thoughts on the Fenty Hydra Vizor Huez. If I really love it, I’ll even talk about it in the next Monthly Favorites thread. We’ll see. 🙂
@WinglessOne lovely lip shades, you always pick the best ones
You have a beautiful haul here @WinglessOne Thank you for sharing you thoughts on everything. I hope your new WG brushes fluff out nicely for you 🤍
I ordered the WA lipstick ( eeep maybe 2) and the new Pat McGrath Lip Pencil/ Lipstick hybrid to try.( Maybe 2 of those as well 🙈) I'm excited by the formulas of WA, and to try the lip pencil but I have heard, in regards to the WA lipstick that the case is big and heavy from more than a few people. I agree with you, there's no reason cases can't be made friendly and accessible for everyone. And if they made a slim and more easy to grip case, like say you could choose between the two, I feel like every person would choose the less bulky option anyways. I wonder what went into the thinking behind this ones creation. *Scratches head* I don't get it. (But I will say it's got that cute in the cap mirror thou, I did like that.)
