Foundation Separating

I'm having a hard time with foundation lately and it separating on my face throughout the day.  I read up a bit on it and tried to follow the tips; make sure moisturizer and primer are dry before applying, make sure I'm using makeup with the same base ingredients as my primer, using fixing spray... but nothing seems to work.  I'm thinking it might be because of my skin being a bit dry but I don't know.  

Does anyone have any advise?

For me, its dryness that somehow leads to my foundation separating. Usually if my skin is in good condition, even if I use a mattifying primer and matte foundation, it won't separate during the day. But when my skin is dry, my foundation will separate as the day goes on especially in mid afternoon regardless what primer or foundation I use. In addition to using a good moisturizer, recently I found using the glow recipe watermelon sleeping mask is really helpful. By morning time my skin is usually supple and soft, my foundation applies so much better.
