Good Morning!
In an effort to keep our boards a positive environment and continue to remain the fun loving product-obsessed community we are, I want to send a reminder to please, play nice with one another!
Everyone was new to Beauty Talk at one point or another and we ask that you please do not take it upon yourselves to "educate" or "moderate" our new friends with guidelines outside of what we already have posted. (regarding posts, board rules, etc.) This is what us mods are here for! 😉
We're happy to participate, chat about product and help out when needed, but keep in mind that every post that comes through IS indeed seen by us and we will take the appropriate action. You can absolutely message us or flag anything as "abusive" if you feel it truly necessary.
Please refrain from any insulting, negative or bullying comments (this includes PM's) to other users, moderators or admins, whether they are new or seasoned. This is NOT tolerated and should it continue we will have to reconsider allowing any of the TSB threads to be posted or even individual participation/memberships in Beauty Talk. We would truly hate to do this so please- embrace your fellow BT'ers and share your passion for product with each other! 🙂 Please keep in mind this is not a new rule, nor is it being changed for anyone new to the boards- but is the same reminder we post every few months.

I'm a bit loss in here. I've always find people in here so nice and proper, even good in grammar. Maybe that's the reason I read the posts, even if most times I don't reply to them.
Have fun, live and let live.
charpic--just curious--how does someone become an instant English teacher? As opposed to world famous physicist? What does the one take that the other does not?
I sincerely apologize if what I am about to say offends anyone. That is not my intention. I just want to offer food for thought. It is always best to be kind and give others the benefit of the doubt especially if you do not personally know them. Better for you-no negative energy, a clear conscience, and a good night’s sleep. Better for them- not feeling less because of something you have done or said, and maybe they can learn something from the community. You never know what the other person’s circumstances are. Are they 12? Do they have mental health issues? Do they have medical issues? Are there educational or experience issues? IQ issues? All deserving of understanding and support. Those with a lot of experience have an opportunity to be role models and to influence in a positive manner. I know-beating a dead horse. But, please humor me 🙂 You great ladies all have a lot to offer. Sometimes, we may just need a little reminder.
Everyone deserves courtesy and should act in the same way, whether they have been here for 5 minutes or 5 years, whether they are 13 or 70, whether they have an advanced degree or a learning disability.
That said, all advice should be well thought out and articulated. It should be based on experience or sources should be cited. You shouldn't state as fact what you read in passing or heard a friend say as though it is an absolute truth. You should not negate someone else's experience when they say something does or does not work 'for them'. Words like "I think" and in my opinion" make it much easier for someone to understand your advice. And if you think someone is giving inaccurate or harmful advice, it is very wise to say so and/or ask a moderator to step in.
We are all also expected to speak in a manner that can easily be read and understood, as outlined in the user guidelines. No one is expected to speak flawless English, whether or not it is their native language. It is, however, common usage to restrict use of capital letters to the beginning of sentences, proper nouns, and the odd bit of emphasis. Anything else is considered shouting. Punctuation instead of long run on sentences also makes writing easier to understand.
Yes, medical and mental issues deserve support and people deserve respect at any age. This is not, however, a mental care forum or a teenage chat forum or many other things. It is primarily a place to discuss beauty related issues and share friendships with people of similar interests. Anyone needing support beyond that should address their issues with resources who can better help them.
Nicely put. I agree with you. Kindness is a virtue, but not to the point where it enables bad behavior. Everything in moderation, as they say.
Oh I like that. "Kindness is a virtue, but not to the point where it enables bad behavior." Great point!
I'm guilty with the run on sentences, especially when I'm on my phone 😞 lol. I do agree with post. Well said!!
Yes, yes, yes! You so eloquently put into words what I've been thinking, thank you 🙂
just wanted an excuse to post this pic! the floor represents stability in the vast sea of unease that has been going on and the dog in the picture in my eyes is exhaustedly clinging to the floor like it's an oar from a boat after drowning in a sea of the anxiety anger unease yada yada that's been going on on both sides of whatever went down that I am ignorant of. again this in just a ninja attack of random silliness! Meep!
You are an English teacher. I don't care if you're a world famous physicist, you are now an English teacher.
have been a long time Sephora girl..i am a rouge..i only come to the boards when I have a uestion or to answer questions about products that I know something about..i don't care how many hearts I have,i don't care about traveling boxes.. am a full time care giver to a very sick husband and just don't have the time to get mixs up in the high school clique stuff.to each his own..but to be honest I don't know nthing about the traveling boxes I give out all my extras and my samples to friends and family..i don't ave tme to deal with traveling boxrs..but I got to say a lot of your reesponses to to mod were very childish..ladies we are all adults..lets act as such..we are here t help each other when someone has a legt question..so one like a red lippie and another prefers pink..so what??its our differences that we should be celebrating not putting down each others taste..this could be a really awesome place but it sseems every time I log in the conversation is all about hearts and boxes..cant w all just resect each other and get along??its us against the non make up non product users..don't we gweet enough flak from them for spending so much money on thngs they consider frivolus??anyway will get off my soap bx now..have a nice day..peace
People are starting to get confused. Beating dead horses for too long...
Star Wars!!!!! yah randomness! My Inner Geek goddess in me does a happy dance! did I just say geek goddess? why yes I did! Hey that could be like my split personality it all makes sense now!
I don't know what I'm missing, but I've really never seen people get contentious over makeup preferences. I completely understand your situation. All of us have 'real life' situations that trump BT; however, if some people choose BT as their space to have a little downtime and camaraderie, that should be respected as well. You see high-school cliques, and I see people who have built rapports with one another and find a supportive, open environment. Many of these people are also the long-time cornerstones of the BT community, helping to set a positive tone. I've been to other boards, and BT is a great example of how things should be when compared to boards where people are out-and-out mean.
Personally, I enjoy coming to BT. And even though my work and personal worlds are non-stop and extremely demanding, checking in here usually makes me smile. I've said plenty of things people don't agree with, but I've never had someone be confrontational or nasty, but rather state opinions and move on and there are no issues with future interactions. And I love that, even if I don't agree with someone, I'm getting different perspectives that make my world a little broader.
If we're going to respect people, let's respect people wholly, even when they indulge or find pleasure in things you might not. I mean, I still play video games all the time, I have a huge box of crayons, stellar colored pencils and some awesome Dover coloring books, and I love rolling down hills. So some people might not enjoy them but it's much of a muchness to me. .TSBs, heart parties and general BT silliness may not be your thing, but a lot of other people do enjoy them and that is awesome!
I'm so glad I'm not alone in my love of coloring! My friends used to think it was 'so sweet' for me to keep coloring books around so when kids were over they didn't get bored ... little did they know!
love coloring! and i love the dover coloring books. i know, i thought i was alone too. when i would tell people i like to color, i would always be like "lots of adults do it, there's adult coloring books, etc. etc." like falling over myself explaining that i'm not a weirdo. except i always seem to use the phrase "adult coloring books" which sounds like i'm coloring in pornographic scenes. alas, its just flowers and plants.
I think coloring is still my favorite activity. Of course, my son loves that I love it because it gives us extra mommy/son time. 🙂
My husband paints and is trying to teach me the many ways and mediums of painting...he's so good, but I don't think I'd ever be able to sit down with a canvas and make magic like he does. So, I'll continue coloring in books with my son while he's painting a masterpiece. lol 😄
Painting is easy once you watch a Bob Ross video ^_^
