New return PayPal policy

I went to store today to return an online purchase that I used PayPal to pay for. The employee told me that there was a new policy regarding returns that were purchased using PayPal, this policy was apparently enforced a month ago. So, she then said I had to take store credit because there was no way of knowing what card was used using PayPal. Then proceeded to make my store credit to a gift card. Can anyone clarify this this new policy regarding PayPal is true?

Had the same issue. Really upsetting because I ended up getting a $364 store credit instead of it going back to my credit card, which I, in turn, had to pay my $364 credit card bill because of Sephora’s policy. They basically took my money and made me pay a credit card bill that I shouldn’t have had if they refunded me instead of giving me store credit. I’m kind of in shock that every other store, including tjmaxx, ulta, Macy’s, Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus, etc., is able to refund you back to your original form of payment when using PayPal to make your purchases online yet Sephora, which is a huge billion dollar company, doesn’t have the means to refund back to your PayPal. Seems kind of shady because you can send your items back instead of returning it to the store and they are able to credit you back if you used PayPal but you’ll have to wait a few weeks to get your refund that way. I now take my chances and just use my credit card to make purchases on Sephora’s website and save my PayPal for other stores.

This information is correct! At this time, our stores cannot issue refunds via PayPal and that is why you were given a merchandise gift card.
