Eyebrows!

I have the hardest time with my eyebrows! I'm seriously considering just having the suckers tattooed on! My existing brows are really sparse and I can't figure out what shape, thickness, length, etc works best for my face. I have small, wide-set eyes and a face that leans toward oblong or oval (honestly I'm not even sure about that!). Help!

Re: Eyebrows!

Oh honey.  You are in my tribe.  I have dark hair but some sad little spare brows that hardly show up.  It does take practice so don't get discouraged!  At first it will feel like they look super dark and fake but they won;t!  You will look great!

I love the Benefit Goof-Proof brow pencil.  The name says it all.  The pencil has a wide tip so it's easier and faster to apply.  I use shade 3, but if you are nervous about them looking too dark you can start with a shade 2.  Start a little lighter and when you get used to seeing your brows filled in, you can go a little darker.

Another good option is an angled brush and brow powder.  You can get away with a drugstore brand to start out with.  Just get a decent brush; I use the Sephora pro brow brush and it has a spoolie on the other end to brush them out after you fill in.  Don't skip that step as it softens and blends.

I would say, look on YouTube for videos like "how to fill in sparse brows" or "brows for beginners".  Anyone who says you have to draw on individual hairs, skip that video.  Hahah.  If you are sparse like me, that technique takes a thousand years and doesn't look full enough.  We need to really fill ours in!  And stop by a Sephora store and tell them you need a lesson n how to fill your brows in and they will be glad to help.  After that, it just takes practice and patience.  It's really worth it and will elevate your whole look and make you look very youthful and gorgeous!

@chels11107 I suggest following "the golden ratio" for shape:

As for makeup, I prefer brow powder and then I do more detail work with a brow pencil.  Good luck!  🙂

Do you use anything in particular to set that so the powd...

Do you use anything in particular to set that so the powder doesn't end up getting patchy from sweat or moisture in the air?

Re: Do you use anything in particular to set that so the powd...

@chels11107 I don't use anything to set the powder.  I was totally leery of using powder b/c I thought it would fade quickly or smear, but I haven't had any of those problems.

For brow powder, I just use the brown powder in the Too Faced Natural Eye palette called "Sexpresso."  I'm lucky that it's a good match for me.  If I were to buy a specific brow powder, I'd try ABH b/c they are known for their brow powders and have a variety of shades.  I apply with a slanted brush.

For pencil, I am currently using ABH Brow Wiz but truthfully I'm not impressed.  I got a sample that worked like a charm, but the full size is too hard/dry so it doesn't go on as smooth.  I rec using a skinny brown pencil, though.

Good luck!  🙂

Oh - and if you are looking for brow stencils, ABH has some in a kit.  The kit also comes with brow powder, and eye shadows that I particularly like.  I haven't delved into the brow powder, though, despite having owned it for years.
