Galaxy hair, mermaid hair, unicorn hair... I colored my hair this way for a long time before I learned that Instagram folks had made up cool names for it.
Show us your unicorn hair! (Past or present)
It looks completely different now, and I'll dig out some more photos later, but this is mine last summer (lip is Dior Addict in Avenue):
Short is actually my mental "default"... when my hair is long it is always on probation! I grow it out for a while, eventually decide it's too much work/$ to make it do what I want, then cut it off and donate it. My hair grows ridiculously fast so I've probably done that 3 or 4 times.
That was probably the last round of long hair, though... I'm sort of steeped in French beauty philosophy, and chic shorter cuts are a privilege of age ๐
Oh so from long to short @fieldsofclover! Did you get tired of your long hair? That's usually me... I get tired of managing the long hair that I cut it short (well shorter). ๐
Yeah, when it's long it's a really expensive hobby because I just mentally can't deal with unkempt hair... I have natural 3A curl, which is fine, but curly and unicorn color is really intense-looking on me so I was on a strict diet of weekly blowouts.
Plus, I have to pay other people to do things I can do myself if I have a short cut! (color, blowouts, serious bleach/lift, etc). I chopped it because I basically needed a lady-in-waiting to help me with it once it was almost to my waist, and I don't have a trust fund ๐
i want a lady in waiting now!
I wish you could too!!
Your a hairdresser @GG84? So cool!!!!
That's ok @GG84 I understand. But you know hair! That's pretty cool! I used to know way more than now... I loved experimenting so much back in the day lol
Thanks! This is the stylist who did my major jobs... she puts product info in her notes.
@fieldsofclover Pulp Riot is great for direct pigements. I either use PR or Joico Intensity.
Your hair is so gorgeous and magical-looking @fieldsofclover! I always wanted to dye my hair but my hair is so thin and fragile that I am scared of damaging it even more. I have been eyeing the Lime Crime Unicorn Hair! Crossing my fingers that it will work on dark hair!
@juliehnguyenwhy not try just the tips of your hair. That way if it gets too damaged you can cut it right off. Like a dip dye effect.
I think this is what I have to resort to @veronika23. It'll be like a baby mermaid tail.
@juliehnguyen but that's ok. It looks nice if well done and you'll be able to get a feel for how much your hair can take.
Definietely going to try it out this spring @veronika23! Just need to start moisturizing my hair more and letting it grow out. So excited! Hahah
Yay!!! If you find your hair is too dry maybe try a hair mask. Moroccanoil makes some good ones. And Deciem has a brand called grow gorgeous supposed to help your hair grow but unsure if it actually works... apparently my hair grows fast on it's own ๐
Noo it's human hair @fieldsofclover ๐ญ๐ญ I was so excited until I read more about it. I personally don't feel comfortable wearing human hair and not knowing where it is coming from. This is because I don't like the ethics behind the hair-trade where poverty-stricken women have to part with their hair in order to survive. Or how some women are forced to shave their hair. To me, hair is such a treasured asset and taking advantage of those who are disadvantaged is unbelievable. But like you said, there is always a way to have ๐ฆ hair.
