Natural Hair Transition from Straight to Wavy

I have fine, dense hair that had always been straight until about 4 years ago when I noticed it started to change texture. At first I thought I was just terrible about combing out the back of my hair but then my stylist said that it was becoming naturally wavy on its own. It started at the hair around the nape of my neck and has been slowly spreading toward the front. Now, the hair follicles lower on my scalp (below eyebrow-level, roughly) grow out with a distinct S-shaped wave but there's still a lot of variance; the lower and further back on myscalp, the tighter the wave, but the top of my scalp is still completely straight hair. I want to really encourage the natural waviness but it's hard to style with my straight hair laying heavy on top of it. I'm a complete novice when it comes to styling my hair with tools or with products, but I would love to learn some techniques that can help highlight my new waves and encourage my still-straight hair to follow suit (if not in waviness, then at least in not dampening the hair below it). The picture below is maybe the BEST the waves have ever looked and I have no idea what I did, but I have to pull the top of my hair back to show it off as you can see.

Re: Natural Hair Transition from Straight to Wavy

I suggest looking into some Deva Curl products to help motivate your straight hour to be a bit more wavy, and your wavy hair more defined.

This product could be useful for you: https://www.sephora.com/ca/en/product/wave-maker-touchable-texture-whip-P411357

It'll give your hair a bit more texture and help style things with a natural wave look.
