How can I get straight hair without a straightener?

I've thin, over processed hair, I use a straighter daily, because I have ugly waves that get a kink sometimes.. mostly from the back of my head. I am trying to use a blow dryer instead but cant seem to achieve the look I get from the straightener.I recently just chopped off my hair to start fresh, any suggestions on how to achieve this

How can I get straight hair without a straightener?

I'm currently loving my Amika polished perfection straightening brush. It takes me just a few minutes on dry hair. I hope you find something less damaging for your hair.

Re: How can I get straight hair without a straightener?

@blumisfit  A blow drier is more damaging then your flat iron fyi. When your hair is wet, think of it (metaphorically) like a cooked piece of spaghetti; imagine holding a bundle of cooked spaghetti in your hands - it's limp, it's stretchy, it's soft. Now imagine taking a hair brush to that cooked bundle of spaghetti - it's all going to fall apart; add heat from your blow drier and that bundle of spaghetti is raw and in trouble.

Now again imagine a raw uncooked bundle of spaghetti in your hands; it's firm because water hasn't been added to it. You could brush it without it breaking.

Point of the story? When your hair is wet its so much more fragile. Let it air dry. Spray a good thermal protector and a dry conditioner on your ends AMIKA - The Shield Anti-Humidity Spray

AMIKA - Silken Up Dry Conditioner

and flat iron those kinks.

@GG84 @That’s debatable as with a flat iron you’re holding high heat (439degrees) directly on the hair shaft and not moving it too fast whereas with a blow dryer you’re moving the heat around and not keeping it directed on any one spot for  any period of time. It’s the heat and the friction of brushing that causes the damage.   Ideally you start by rough drying using your fingers and not a brush or comb and not dryingyour hair from sopping wet when doing a blowout.  You don’t use the hot setting until right near the end when the hair is more dry and ready to be set.

@heartsmyface I've been a stylist 21 years, a salon owner and salon educator, I'm not doubting what you believe to be true, I do know a thing or two about Trichology.

No heat is ideal, if any heat must be applied - on dry hair is best.

I think we just said the same thing.  I had to look up trichology- the study of the scalp and it’s diseases.  Learned a new word today.  @GG84

Blow drying your hair with a large round brush will give you straight hair.  The larger the brush the straighter your hair will turn out.  @blumisfit

@blumisfit,

I suggest using a smoothing type of product before blow drying if you have not already tried on already!

Kérastase Discipline Blow-Dry Smoothing Primer

I also recommend using a brush like this one which helps smooth out the hair SEPHORA COLLECTIONGLOSS: Dual Boar Bristle Brush

@blumisfit Ask your stylist for a hands on how-to lesson. Bumble and bumble has a few different blow it products like Bumble and bumble Straight Blow Dry Styling Cream 5 oz/ 150 mL
