No joke me too!!! @heartsmyface that's the only one that ever gave me nightmares
10/3: Most memorable or creepiest book, short story, fable or poem? Scary Stories to tell in the dark. Man those were creepy as a kid.
10/4: What Halloween-type movie needs a prequel or sequel? And which franchise needs to be buried? I do need more shows like Corpse Bride and Nightmare Before Christmas. I'd also be ok with more Scary Movies series. Those used to make me laugh so much.
10/5: Most wanted king size bar of candy? Which candy is better in fun size? Hmm maybe Milky Way for full size and fun size is Reese's or M&Ms.
10/5: Most wanted king size bar of candy? Twix
Which candy is better in fun size? M&Ms so I don't eat the whole bag!
Twix are so yummy! @Titian06 ๐ค๐
I missed a couple of days, so I am playing catch-up again oops ๐
10/3: Most memorable or creepiest book, short story, fable or poem? Ooh, this is a good one! Hmm, let's see...
Books: there's the classics of course - Dracula, which I really enjoyed, and Frankenstein, which is on my TBR list still. I am not a big horror reader, but several years ago I read a more recent sci-fi/fantasy book, Kraken, by China Mieville, which has some pretty creepy body horror and gore moments!
Short stories: of course Edgar Allan Poe is the obvious choice - I read "The Fall of the House of Usher" for a short story class and loved it, but he has lots of great ones. Another creepy one I read for the same class was "A Rose for Emily" by William Faulkner.
Fables: there are almost too many to choose from. If we stretch the definition of fable to include traditional folk ballads, which I love and listen to quite a bit, my favorite is probably the wonderfully creepy "Twa Sisters" (Child Ballad 10/Roud 8), also called "The Cruel Sister," "Binnorie," "Wind and Rain" and a lot of other names. It is a very old murder ballad that tells the story of two sisters who are rivals in love for the same man. The jealous older sister murders the younger sister by pushing her into the water to drown. A traveling musician, either a harper or a fiddler, finds the drowned girl's body and makes a musical instrument, either a harp or a fiddle, out of her bones and hair. The instrument then plays itself and tells the story of the murder.
Poems: again, there are almost too many to choose from, but one that stands out to me is "Erlkonig" by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. It's about a child who is killed by a supernatural being.
10/4: What Halloween-type movie needs a prequel or sequel? And which franchise needs to be buried? Honestly, I can't think of any that I'd want a prequel or sequel to; I rarely like sequels as much as the original movies. Franchise that needs to be buried - I feel like the Halloween movies are pretty played out at this point. No hate if you enjoy them, of course.
10/5: Most wanted king size bar of candy? Which candy is better in fun size? Ooh, tough choice! My favorite full size chocolate bar is probably Endangered Species Chocolate milk chocolate bar. And I'd love to try some of Seattle Chocolate Company's chocolate bars. Best fun size - Reese's and Butterfingers!
I could make a reading list from the books you listed @caitbird this thread really tells me I'm behind on any type of spooky stories, I haven't read any of these! ๐ ๐
@CynthieLu well some of the ones I listed are probably a bit obscure to most people, so that's part of it ๐
Oct. 5: Give me a classic king sized Hersheyโs bar. Reeseโs are better in fun size! The chocolate to peanut butter ratio is ideal.
Yum! Yes that ratio matters ๐ @alexasteph I love the thin ones, they have my perfect blend of chocolate to peanut butter. Have you tried them?
@CynthieLu I donโt think I have tried those ones! Iโve been getting the minis lately actually. Perfect little size.
The Mini's are pretty great too @alexasteph I'm a put my Reese cups in freezer kind of girl right now, something about those frozen is just so good. Have you tried it?
@CynthieLu Not frozen but we put them in the fridge otherwise they melt since we live in Florida! I did recently get the frozen Reeseโs banana bites and they were AMAZING though.
10/4: What Halloween-type movie needs a prequel or sequel? None.
And which franchise needs to be buried? All of them. How many sequels do you need?
That's so true, sequels and prequels are everywhere @Titian06. There are none you would like to stay around?
@CynthieLu - I don't go to the movies much any more. Sequels and prequels don't allow people to use their imagination--what they think led to or happened later on. I don't want to be spoon fed. It's one thing to create a franchise around a good character--James Bond, Jack Ryan--each is a new and different story. It's another when it's one story being dragged out--Star Wars, slasher movies.
