Pan It! - 2026 Challenge

2026 has arrived and so has YEAR NINE (9) of the Pan It! Challenge 🍾

20262026

The "Rules"

To accommodate a variety of interests, you all are encouraged to pick items to pan that are most suitable to your collections.  For some, this might mean focusing on a particular type of product (like lipstick) and for others this may include a larger variety spanning your entire makeup or skincare routine.

Getting Started (please share the following)

  • Which item(s) you would like to work on
  • How long you will work on said item
  • Goal: explore a new item, revisit an old item, decide whether to keep pass or trash, and/or completely finish item, etc.
  • Starting photo of item

Please Use This Thread To...

  • share what item(s) you are working on,
  • provide comparative progress photos of your item(s) monthly (at the beginning of the month when possible),
  • ask questions,
  • encourage others,
  • motivate others with the looks you create with your item(s)

Tips and Tricks to Panning/Getting Some Use Out of Your Stash:

Spoiler

  • Take photos!!  When you think you aren’t making a dent in anything look back at those photos, I’m certain you’ll see some changes 😃 *this is the number one recommendation for everyone, regardless of how long you’ve been panning! Those photos add up and can help you realize progress you might otherwise overlook.
  • If you goal is to hit pan or use something up entirely, try concentrating your brush/applicator in the same area each time you use it
  • Multitask your products: eyeshadows as highlighter, lipstick as blush, eyeshadow as brow powder, etc.
  • Layer eyeshadow to create different colors (this is especially helpful to get use out of shades you’re not fond of).
  • Have shadows with a ton of fall out?  Use water
  • Watching the progress of others’ can be fun but try not compare your progress to theirs.  We all use our makeup differently and have different goals.
  • Don’t restrict yourself to only using the item(s) you are working on.  It’s more than OK to incorporate other items or take a break!

Makeup should be fun….if you begin to dread doing your makeup because you made a commitment to use a product that you now hate, TOSS IT!  Do not force yourself to use up something you don’t like.  Move on to something else!  (This includes excluding particular shades from your goals if focusing on palettes, etc.)

Ideas to Help You Pan Those Items:

Spoiler

  • Roll the dice: number your items and use a random number generator to pick what you will use each (day/week/month/etc.)
  • Layer/Mask: items you are less fond of under things you like
  • Pan a Look: at the beginning of the week pick a look that you can wear everyday
  • Recreate: a look worn by a fellow BICer, celebrity, etc.
  • Spice up an "everyday" look by adding subtle pops of color (in the crease or on the lower lash line, mix lip products to make shades wearable, etc.)

Past Panning Challenges:

Re: Pan It! - 2026 Challenge

I’m finding I’ve done really well with a few products, but have been slacking on others.

IMG_2558.jpeg

The B&B fragrance is slow and steady. I’m on pace to finish by years end and that’s ok. It’s not a race. The Thayers I’m struggling to reach for since I have products I prefer that are just easier to use. I may try to use it on my neck and dec to get some use. The JVN is nice but I set it aside at the end of the month to test something new that… turns out I prefer. I only have a few uses here so I’m going to push to finish in March.

IMG_2559.jpeg

 I don’t think I reached for these at all… 🤷🏻‍♀️

IMG_2560.jpeg

I have squeezed this tube! But I also cut into it today and will get a few uses yet. This is strictly being used as a skin tint, not an SPF.
I’ll rotate in a new base product once this done.

IMG_2561.jpeg

Farmacy masked has been used once a week. I enjoy it. Happy to have it with me even if it’ll be the whole year. SC lip scrub/stain.. I’ve used a couple times. It’s fine. The MUFE liner is good. But I have a few Brown UD minis that I prefer so I’m just looking to get use here. The Becca blush has been a standout star for me. I’m really enjoying the shade and love reaching for this. I’m seeing the dip grow and so happy I pulled this to pan!

IMG_2563.jpeg

Farmacy lip mask is the only one I’ve used all month and I’m good with that. Since I’ve started growing the pan and watching the progress has been easier I’m more excited to use it and keep seeing more progress.

Re: Pan It! - 2026 Challenge

You've done amazing!! @missjeanie

Re: Pan It! - 2026 Challenge

@missjeanie  fantastic progress! You are so close to finishing a couple of these, and making strides with others! You got this 💪

Re: Pan It! - 2026 Challenge

@caitbird Thanks, I'm pretty happy with the group of products I picked to start with this year!

Re: Pan It! - 2026 Challenge

Amazing progress, @missjeanie !! You can really see the JVN and Tower28 be almost finished!! And the blush, mask and lip mask have so much dents!!

For the Skylar fall cashmere you could definitely focus on it more in the fall again? Maybe it'll inspire more use if the rest of the world has the autumn vibes

Re: Pan It! - 2026 Challenge

@haleyvvvv That’s a great point on the Skylar. I know that once I get focused on it it’ll go quickly since it’s such a small size, but I just can’t get into it yet.

Re: Pan It! - 2026 Challenge

@missjeanie Great progress!!

Re: Pan It! - 2026 Challenge

Thanks @Samtian !

Re: Pan It! - 2026 Challenge

Ulta 21 Days of Beauty starts this weekend and I’ve got one product on day 1 that I want back in my life (Ouai Wave Spray, chef’s kiss) that I refuse to pay shipping costs on because it will be less than $20 . . . So that means trash time for the store trip!

Photo is my January and February empties, plus a few things that I’m counting in March because they’ll be done this week before I go to the store. Previous November and December empties have been collecting dust in the closet waiting for their trip to the Great Recycling Box too. Can you tell I raided my mom’s stockpile of box hair dye conditioners to decant into my own bottle? Mix them with a regular, lighter conditioner and it’s been just enough of a boost to keep the winter dryness and static at bay. So many little “Huzzah!” moments these past two months. Goals-wise, for the end of February (which is excluding the few March items) I’m currently at:

-25 total tracked empties out of 100, with a value of $190.72 (out of $1,000.00)

-19.75 ounces of bar soap out of 96 ounces (obviously not pictured, but they’re counted)

-5 full-size BBW body creams + lotions out of 16

-no full-size shampoos finished yet. Booooo. (tbf, I’m halfway through my main shampoo and probably 2/3 of the way through my secondary)

Re: Pan It! - 2026 Challenge

@KeriCherryDee  great job! I love that you are calculating the value of your empties, that's such a smart idea! Also, way to go combining a store trip with recyclables to save on shipping costs 👏

Re: Pan It! - 2026 Challenge

@KeriCherryDee I love that you're calculating the value of the products!  So smart to get everything ready to go before a store trip as well!

Re: Pan It! - 2026 Challenge

🙌🏽...I love a beauty with a plan, you get that Ouai! Congrats on that empty value @KeriCherryDee

Re: Pan It! - 2026 Challenge

February Check-In

Monthly Summary:
Progress with my my pan it! products this month has been steady, for the most part. I thought I would struggle with having all 10 of my pan items being makeup products but I've been able to make it work better than I thought I would, primarily because I've been making a very deliberate effort to include (or to try to include) at least 2 products from this group in each week's makeup capsule for capsule makeup challenge. This approach means that I should theoretically be able to utilize a minimum of 80% of my pan it! products every month.

February All Stars

Next Month's Focus:
Going to incorporate the MUFE palette into more of my weekly capsules next month, aiming to include it in 3 of the 5 weekly capsules in March.

Armani Luminous Bronzing DropsArmani Luminous Bronzing Drops
I've been able to use these Armani Beauty Luminous Brozing Drops a couple different ways - underpainting and/or to deepen foundation products that are curently a tad too light for my complexion. A little goes a long way so I'm not sure how much I'll be able to get through this year but the goal is to just remember to incorporate it in my routine when I can. It sometimes gets lost in the shuffle so steady progress with this throughout the year would be absolutely fine by me.

white dot = blush or highlight, or blushlight
blue dot = lip color
black dot = foundation, concealer or contour
red dot = eyeshadow

Getting a little more use from the MAKE UP FOR EVER HD Skin Face Essentials Long-Lasting Full Face Cream Palette than just the contour shade at the bottom right on the right hand side. However, speaking of that contour shade, the angle of this shot makes it difficult to tell, but a deeper well is becoming more and more visible in that pan.

2.1.2026 Pan - MUFE 2.jpg
The photo sorta speaks for itself when it comes to progress on the MAKE UP FOR EVER Artist Color Pencil Long-Lasting Lip Liner 606C Wherever Walnut 😍 I didn't re-sharpen with every use this month (instead opting to sharpen it when I was close but not quite hitting the wood parts of the pencil) and was still able to make a lot of progress on it. This remains the front runner for the first of my 2026 pan it! products I'll finish.

2.2026 Pan - Touch In Sol.jpg
Touch In Sol Pretty Filter Icy Sherbet Hydrating Primer is another slow-and-steady one, but I suspect that it will see more movement once the weather warms up thanks to its cooling feeling.

2.1.2026 Pan - Laneige.jpg
Used the Laneige lip sleeping mask day and night for most of this month and it shows. I'll revert back to reaching for this during the evenings only but I feel a little more confident I can make my way through this by or before the end of the year.

Not pictured: Prada Hydrating Lip Balm with Jojoba Oil U010 Maple has seen use but not so much where you can see it on the bullet. We'll get there, though I'm hoping that the fragrance on this one doesn't create an issue for me when my allergies start up in the spring - for some reason, I can get more sensitive to scents when my allergies kick in. It doesn't always happen but it seems to be more so in the last year or so.

All other products saw at least some use this month but these were the standouts.

Re: Pan It! - 2026 Challenge

@itsfi  amazing progress! I'm so impressed by the dent you've made in that MUFE liner, wow! I just picked up one of their new shades ( MAKE UP FOR EVER Artist Color Pencil Long-Lasting Lip Liner 234 Wherever Walnut Light ) and am looking forward to trying it out. Love that picture of the Laneige lip mask as well!

Re: Pan It! - 2026 Challenge

Ooouh, fun! MUFE added some great looking new liners to their collection @caitbird. Love their most recent releases.

Re: Pan It! - 2026 Challenge

@itsfi Ooooh great work!!!

Re: Pan It! - 2026 Challenge

Thanks @Samtian, just slowly chipping away at everything. Feeling like I have a pretty good handle on the Laneige and the MUFE liner so I can turn my attention to really working through some of the harder to pan items.

Re: Pan It! - 2026 Challenge

@itsfi The MUFE lip pencils are such a favourite for me.  Glad to see yours getting some use!  And that photo of the Leneige lip mask brings me joy.  Love that you've used it one side over.

Re: Pan It! - 2026 Challenge

@missjeanie, yep, completely understand the hype around them. I'm late to the game, not because I didn't think they'd be good, but because I had so many other lip liners to work through first. They'll definitely make it easier to identify which liners to sharpen, sanitize and rehome.

Re: Pan It! - 2026 Challenge

@itsfi If I recall I heard something about new shades of the MUFE coming out soon!  I'm hoping to do some lines with them and see if I need to round out my collection!  Do you have a favourite lip liner?  I'm open to trying some new ones this year I think!

Re: Pan It! - 2026 Challenge

@missjeanie, MUFE came out with more shades as well as a new finish. They're fun and you'll definitely want to swatch them. Yes, yes, I'm all for rounding out a collection; I've been trying to take that route a little more when it comes to picking up products.

A favorite lip liner? Hmmm, I guess it depends -
